Your House in LEGO®

Here I go again. I love LEGO. One of my favorite videos is James May's Toy Stories and the construction of an actual LEGO house. Can you imagine living in such an abode? Movoto Real Estate offers a variety of tips and ideas on home buying on Movoto Blog. Trying to bring some humor into our days, they posted a LEGO calculator. Yes! You can determine – based on square footage and floors – how many LEGO bricks and dollars would be required to build a house. To give you an idea, 2000 square feet over 2 floors would run you about $1 million. Certainly not what your friends would expect when you invite them to your million dollar home. Their estimates strictly covers the walls and roof. So bump the price up if you want to fully furnish your unit. Read more on their methodology and logic on the blog, and see what your home, built in LEGO, would cost.

Attention Travelers!

Face it, business or student travel really becomes an art form. Staying organized is key. Road warriors have favorite hotel chains, airlines, car rental agencies. We can travel for 3 days in a bag most consider an overnighter. We essentially take our office on the road with sizeable space for laptop, tablet, phone, chargers, books and paperwork. And traveling with all of that is no small task. You can always tell the road warriors at airport security, they perfectly orchestrate their actions to get through efficiently. And waiting for their flight, they are typically sucked up next to a power plug loading up the laptop before the flight.

In the attempt to fit into the road warrior's orchestra, Powerbag™ offers their top-of-the-line Business Class Pack. As a former road warrior (up to 40 weeks a year) I can attest to the need for 1) electronic charge, 2) space and 3) functionality while on the road. And the Business Class Pack offers all 3. Included is a 6000mAh Lithium Polymer battery with USB connector, enough to charge an iPhone 4 times. Built-in mini and micro USB connectors and standard Apple connector cover most devices. But an open USB port gives you an option for additional cables. To recharge the pack simply plug the wall adaptor into the water resistant DC port. So regardless of where you are, you can charge up your life. The Business Class Pack also offers a protected tablet-like space in addition to ample storage for files or even clothes. Powerbag also thought about the laptop, with a FlyFlat space for a 15" unit – so it laysflat on the x-ray belt and keeps security hassles to a minimum,

Business Class Pack, $179 at mypowerbag.com, will cost a bit more, but for the true road warrior the investment pays off quickly with the convenience and practicality to make the trip as smooth as possible.

The Spy Watch – GPS Tracker and Mobile Device for Kids

It’s amazing how quickly our kids grow up, that being said I have to admit I still see my daughter as a little girl and I’m not really enjoying having to let her venture off to do things on her own. This year she wants to go trick-or-treating with her friends. What? No mom to take pictures, “test” the candy and watch for traffic? Is she nuts?

I know this next gadget isn’t the same as being there, but maybe it can help ease my transition into my kids more independent lifestyle. Welcome the Spy Watch, so much more than a time telling gadget, the Spy Watch is also an emergency communication device, MP3 player and a GPS tracker.

The very cool looking wristwatch features on demand GPS locationing when queried by guardian SMS message and it allows up to 6 GPS location waypoint presets, letting you to set boundaries and receive automatic SMS messages sent to your guardian numbers when the Spy Watch enters or leaves waypoint locations. As a communication device, the Spy Watch allows contact with up to 4 "guardian" phone numbers and of course it has parental controls that allow incoming and outgoing call blocking.

The Spy Watch comes in a rainbow of colors, has a band width of 20mm, and a casing diameter of around 50mm. The watch is rechargeable, comes equipped with a USB cable, charger, manual and earphones, and it can be on your kids wrist in time for trick-or-treating for only $109.99 from meritline.com. Me? I’m going with her, and making sure she can’t see me hiding behind the trees.

Full Phrase Talking Translator

Don't you think that language is a wonderful thing? I personally think so, and have a great admiration for people who seem to have the knack of picking up languages just like that, and they can rattle off fluently in a room full of different nationalities, speaking to them in their own heart language without nary a mistake. For lesser mortals like me, there is always an electronic device out there which could help me out in a potentially tight spot, especially when I am in an unfamiliar country or territory. Enter the $249.95 Full Phrase Talking Translator, where this model will translate and articulate full phrases and words typed on its keyboard instead of just concentrating on individual words.

The Full Phrase Talking Translator is able to instantly display translations to and from English for 210,000 common travel phrases, or rather, 1.8 million words in 24 European languages, three Asian languages, English, Arabic, or Hindi. The dictionary that powers this translator would be the New Oxford American Dictionary, and it is smart enough to maintain a history of searched terms so that you can create a favorites list for commonly used phrases. It won't take up too much space in your luggage when you travel either, as it roughly measures the size of a smartphone. Just make sure you carry a pair of AAA batteries to have it function as spares on your travels.

Molecule Tiny Homes – Living Large, in a Small Space

I’m pretty sure I have more house than I need. Let’s face it, we live in 3 rooms, the kitchen, the bedroom and the bathroom… the rest of the house just sits there empty, just in case we need it, like if someone comes to visit, or for the occasional formal dining holiday that usually requires a dust off of the china cabinet and the buffet server. I daydream about the vacations I could be taking, and the things I could be doing if we weren’t paying for this house…

Well, please check out Molecule Tiny Homes, a tiny house building company. Molecule Tiny Homes designs, and builds tiny custom houses, on flat bed trailers. Tiny houses are cute, beautiful and incredibly efficient housing options that reduce your impact on our environment and on your wallet.

Keeping in mind that all the Tiny houses are fully customizable, the standard Tiny house is built using conventional techniques with a wood frame, plywood subfloors, metal roofing, and a variety of siding choices from redwood to t1-11 (rough sawn plywood) to board and batten.  Your house comes complete with a propane range/oven, sink, shower, toilet and even a bathtub. Everything you would have in your normal sized home is available to you, and functions as it normally would.

No, you dont need to leave your new Tiny Home on the trailer, it can be designed to un-bolt and be place where you want it, but isn’t the fact that you can just pick up and go part of your new scaled down lifestyle? You can check out pictures and videos of the inside of these Tiny Homes at Moleculetinyhomes.com and you can own one from 20K to 80K depending on how elaborate you want your Tiny Home to be… Now I just gotta figure out where I’m going to put the piano.

3D Movie Viewer for iPhone

So you have just gotten yourself the spanking new iPhone 5, and think that it is the best thing since, well, the iPhone 4S. All right, so you are an Apple fanboy at heart, and think that Cupertino is able to do no wrong. I cannot fault you for that as Apple has one of the more impressive corporate marketing machines around, but if there is one area where the iPhone 5 fears to tread, it would be the world of 3D. Fret not, as there are always third party accessories out there that can always help you out – case in point, the £12.99 3D Movie Viewer for iPhone.

Similar to its humble predecessor, the stereoscopic View-Master, the 3D Movie Viewer for iPhone works as named. It is capable of effectively translating the YouTube 3D format by directing the left/right images to the appropriate eyeball, allowing these YouTube videos to be so lifelike, you might even catch yourself reaching out in an attempt to touch the screen. All you need to do is slip your iPhone into the hand-held viewer and let your eyeballs drop their jaws in wonder, if they had jaws to begin with.

American Greetings says hello to the Ultimate Mustache Party

Do you think that with the advent of the Internet, greeting cards have become obsolete? I know that the telegram has gone the way of the dodo in most, if not all countries as a mode of communication, and the snail mail (postal service) sector is not doing too hot either. This could be because of the speed and accuracy of emails, but when it comes to greeting cards, I am not quite sure whether the electronic revolution has seen electronic greeting cards make huge strides and inroads to render its paper-based predecessor obsolete. American Greetings has come up with a one-of-a-kind greeting card collection, and they will accompany that with a free app for big birthday smiles.

Actually, one of the best things of a traditional greeting card would be the recipient's facial expression when he or she receives it, especially when we are talking about a birthday card here. Pleasant words aside, just what are some of the more hilarious birthday cards that you have seen in the past? American Greetings thinks that the mustache madness might just continue in the world of greeting cards, hence rolling out Mustache Party, a new greeting card collection that should be set to be the top hit of any birthday bash. In a nutshell, Mustache Party provides consumers with the ultimate birthday treatment, where one has a delectable selection of paper cards and ecards with an exciting free app.

This frisky new card line will boast of iconic mustaches which would seem ready at all times to serenade the recipient with a truly unique song. Each mustache will be presented in a shiny frame, where it springs to life with the touch of a button. The amalgamation of a clever copy, catchy songs, and mustache-powered motion would mean the Mustache Party is a wacky and wonderful way to carve a smile on the birthday boy or girl's face. Some of the fun designs in this collection include a pirate, a manly mustache, and even a magical mustache.

Netgear Centria announced

Netgear is famous for their collection of networking products, and this time around, we have what Netgear has dubbed the Netgear Centria, where it has been slated to be an all powerful, all-in-one automatic backup/media server that also wears another hat by being a high-speed WiFi router, now how about that?Just to make sure that everyone is on the same page, the Netgear Centria is a dual band high-performance router that has the added convenience of automatic data backup for both PCs and Macs.

This particular backup capability that is found in the Centria router is definitely something that provides it with an edge over the rest of the competition, not to mention giving you that added peace of mind since you know that barring any mishaps, your precious data will remained backed up at all times.

Assuming your Mac or PC is lost or experiences some sort of nasty downtime, you are still able to continue living life normally, accessing all of the backed up data from the Centria via a different computer. Routers do seem to be the ideal place where one can enjoy data backup as they remain on most of the times, and are also the central point of connection for all computers in the home.

Not only that, if you prefer, you can always use the Netgear Centria as a storage repository for photos, media and documents that might just consume way too much space on your computer. The Centria will rely on an internal SATA drive and/or external USB drives in order to have it perform all of its storage and backup needs.

The Centria, as mentioned earlier, also doubles up as a high-performance 900 Mbps (450+450 Mbps) Dual Band WiFi router so you need not worry about enjoying fast, smooth streaming and gaming. You can pick up the Netgear Centria WNDR4700 for $229.99 a pop, while the Netgear Centria WNDR4720 that boasts of an internal 2TB hard drive will be more expensive at $349.99.

Rechargeable Speakers with a Twist

If memory serves I was gifted my first pair of portable speakers. And boy have I used the heck out of them. I never thought of all the uses prior to the kind gift: tunes at the desk or in the kitchen, watching movies on the tablet or movie. And boy, were they a life saver on the road. No road warrior should be without a set. But toting batteries with you is inconvenient. iHome, makers of various a/v products, added a couple twists to the portable speaker concept that is worth a look.

The iHM62, $49.96 on Amazon, brings practicality and fun to the world of portable speakers. These collapsible speakers come with a 2 in 1 cable enabling charge from a USB device and output via standard 3.5mm audio plug. The lithium ion battery will get you 2 hours of playback – enough to typically get you back to a power source. The vacuum bass design gives hearty volume and bass too. But the fun angle of these speakers is the fact they change color – green, red, blue, yellow. Single color and color fade modes also exist if you are not in the mood for changing color. With the collapsible, handheld design and a carry pouch the iHM62 travels well too. You know you need portable speakers, why not make them rechargeable? And add a little color to your life at the same time.

Wag Your Tail

When you woke up this morning I bet you said to yourself "darn, if I only had a tail to wag." OK, maybe not. But the concept is out there!

Launched at the end of last year by, NeuroSky – makers of Neurowear – was the Necomimi mind controlled cat ears. Distribution to the US began this summer. And as my Coolest Gadget writing friend Edwin said "…it would have been nice to see a mentally controlled tail appendage to go along with the pair of ears." Good call Edwin! NeuroSky recently released a video on their latest project, Shippo, the mind controlled tail. Based on NeuroSky's ThinkGear technology, user's brainwaves are measured by a sensor which passes signals to the tail device. When relaxed it moves "soft and slow" and if concentrating it moves "hard and fast." As you'll see in the video – happiness apparently takes concentration. Wish I got that excited about flowers. Like with the ears you can tag yourself and your mood on Foursquare as you go. The company made a splash in the cosplay world with the Necomimi and although only in development, the Shippo proves to do the same. Stay tuned for launch details!
