SwiMP3 2G Waterproof MP3 Player from FINIS

Posted: 22 Nov 2011 07:30 AM PST

The other day, I reviewed some waterproof earbuds from Pioneer, and the SwiMP3 2G is a definite step up for swimmers.

The SwiMP3 2G are designed to be clipped to a pair of swimming goggles, and use Bone Conduction. If you haven’t used Bone Conduction, then you really need to try it. I got a chance to try out the SwiMP3, and I could put these guys anywhere on my head to hear the music loud and clear.

In addition to the Bone Conduction feature, the SwiMP3 2G is so named as it holds 2G of storage with 500 songs, or 30 hours of music. Getting tunes on it is as easy as attaching it to a computer via USB, and it plays WMA and MP3 formats, in addition to being iTunes convertible.

The battery is good for eight hours per charge, but I don’t seem to have any info about how deep it can go. I checked out the instructions for care, and I was surprised to find that one needs to rinse the SwiMP3 2G with clean water after every use, even to rinse off the USB plug as well. I’m pretty impressed that the USB plug can take the water. Let’s make all of our technology this waterproof!

If you want to get in on this waterproof action, just head on over to the Finis site and lay down about $159.99.

Humanscale’s ZON Personal Air Purifier

Posted: 22 Nov 2011 07:15 AM PST

I have to admit that I have never used a personal air purifier before, but when I had a chance to try out Humanscale’s ZON Personal Air Purifier, I took it. Of course, I did not think I needed something that looked like a fan in the cold weather I am experiencing where I live.

Just to let you know, the ZON is designed to “surround the user in a bubble of air that’s free of pollutants, dust and biological contaminants while boasting silent breeze-free and ozone-free operation”.

Apparently, that is good enough to remove 99 percent of the airborne particles of all sizes including Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) for very clean air.

The best part is that the ZON Personal Air Purifier is very earth-friendly. As you can see from the image, it is ENERGY STAR Certified. It is also has a paper filter that can be vacuumed and reused or recycled with other paper products. Changing the filter is pretty simple, and there is even an LED alert signal for when it is time to change or clean the filter.

All that, and it has a terrific aesthetic feel that is quiet with little feeling of rushing air. You should be able to purchase the Humanscale ZON Air Purifier in a variety of colors for about $299.00 at the Wayfair site.

The PowerPod from Coalesse

Posted: 22 Nov 2011 07:00 AM PST

Most people have power strips at their desks, and I am sure that some of you are rockin’ two strips at every outlet. The PowerPod is designed to clean up that row of outlets that look very ugly under the desk.

What makes the PowerPod different from the average power strip is that it is really made for the top of the desk and not under it. Somehow, putting all the plugs in a circle makes it look like a table for six at a fine restaurant instead of the cafeteria lunch bench.

In addition to the cool circular formation, it has an accessory tray that is good for holding pencils and pens. It caps on the PowerPod when not in use, so all the plugs are hidden. There is a video after the jump with more information on it.

The video has opened up my eyes to the obvious ideas about that need to be developed. I also had a good laugh at the guy trying to plug something in below a table and he just…falls. A better actor was needed for this role.

I have a suggestion for this company. Is there any way to put all the plugs on the edge of this thing, that way you could use the outlets and the tray at the same time? It is just a suggestion, one that I am certain is harder to build than it is to write.

If you are interested in the PowerPod in its current state, feel free to head to the Coalesse site and lay down about $99.

Piggyback Solar Powered Gadgetbag

Posted: 22 Nov 2011 05:30 AM PST

Since we’re living in an eco-friendly world right now – or at least, the world’s population is starting to see the need of protecting our environment, the Piggyback Solar Powered Gadgetbag is something worth looking into if you tend to tote around more gadgets than usual. When you have the full brunt of the afternoon sun shining on your backpack, it will be able to output 1000mA at 5.6V via USB, and just in case it gets cloudy for a few days during the week, fret not – there is a built-in battery pack to keep your gadgets going when they’re exhausted.

The flexible solar panel itself measures 8″ x 12″ in size, and the backup battery is a 800mAh Li Ion model that functions as a buffer. Why the name Piggyback? Well, it will actually be able to “piggyback” onto your current bag, hence the reason behind its moniker. Straps and buckles will ensure the solar panel remains in place so that you need not have to forgo your favorite bag.

Photo Cube Smartphone Printer

Having a printer that churns out photos are a snap – but how many of us actually bother to purchase a portable photo printer for that purpose? The £119.99 Photo Cube Smartphone Printer comes into mind here, where it will rely on dye sublimation to deliver high quality prints which will certainly be able to rival those photo printing kiosks that you insert your memory card from a camera or phone into and get your favorite images out. It does not matter whether you are printing them straight from your iPad, iPhone or Android-powered device, it will still be able to get the job done.

Of course, don’t expect it to churn out anything more than glossy 6 x 4″ prints, as you have to bear in mind that this is a device that measures a highly diminutive 17.5cm x 15cm, making it far smaller compared to the average home printer. Heck, the footprint of it is tiny enough to fit on any office desk or workstation. Either the iPhone or iPod will be plugged in the top, or you can opt to connect an iPad or Android device through USB. Heck, it also doubles up as a device charger when your gizmos are plugged in. Each compact cartridge will be able to churn out 36 colorful prints, and when there is no more paper left, just swap the cartridge for a new one and you're good to go.
