Cordless Christmas Tree Candles

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 04:12 PM PDT

The Yuletide season is upon us yet again pretty soon – showing just how fast time flies. Well, that would mean taking out the old plastic Christmas tree and decorating it yet again, or you could always do it the other way round by biding your time to choose the right tree for that particular year. Either way, leaving the tree all plain is just wrong, which is why there is also the selection headache when it comes to decorations and ornaments. Enter the Cordless Christmas Tree Candles which by its name, you can tell that they’re a whole lot more convenient since you won’t have to worry about the hazard of flames or the hassle of tangled electric cords.

Each PVC candle will come with a molded crystal “flame”, holding a single LED which flickers softly like a wind-drawn wick. Located at the candle’s base is a powerful magnet that attaches to a swiveling green spring clip, letting them be positioned at virtually any angle on Christmas trees, garland, or other trim. An IR remote control will rule the candles within a 12-foot radius, setting them to blink or illuminate continuously and are rated for 50,000 hours. Of course, these candles aren’t powered by pixie dust, but will require an AA battery which lasts for up to 180 hours. The Cordless Christmas Tree Candles are going for $49.95 for a dozen.

Wasted LED watch from Tokyoflash

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 04:07 PM PDT

Telling the time used to be something that’s pleasant and easy to do – all you needed was a quick glance at your wrist and you’re good to go. The folks over at Tokyoflash have certainly gone out of their way to complicate things as much as possible, and one of the results would be the Wasted LED watch. Also known as the Kisai Wasted, it will come in two color styles – black and white. Wasted boasts a streamlined plastic case and strap finished in gloss with matte detail.

It was specially designed to fit most wrist sizes perfectly, boasting a smooth translucent lens which enables you to see the mysterious layout of time right under it. Since it is USB rechargeable, you need not go out and buy those button cell batteries. It takes around 3.5 hours for a full charge which should last you for around one month on average. With the battery being able to hold around 300 charges, that would translate to over 2 years of use before you replace the battery.

How do you tell the time? That is the easy part once you get the hang of it, although your friends might beg to differ as they crack their brains, looking for various methods in unlocking the “code” or pattern. The Kisai Wasted makes it a snap with its explanation – all you need to do is touch the button for the twisted display to come to life, where the current time will flash for a short time in order to direct you. All hours are shown on the outside in the same position as the corresponding numbers on a clock, while groups of five minutes on the inside will also show up with single minutes in the center from bottom to top.

You can also initiate a programmed animation between 18:00 and 24:00 for night time, where all lights will slowly illuminate the screen and then go out every 15 minutes when animation mode is on. The price to pay? $85.09 sans shipping if you’re interested.

Crosley Revolution Portable Turntable – What’s old, is new again

Posted: 30 Oct 2010 08:24 AM PDT

Boy this really got me thinking, mostly about the four boxes of records I have down in the basement. Geez, it even sounds weird to say "records" these days. Every Fall I promise myself while I'm stuck inside over the Winter I will transfer my records to CD, so I can finally listen to them again.

Well, dust of the 45's.. It's time to party!

Crosely brings you a truly portable turntable that's BOTH old school and high tech. Battery operated and with a platter smaller than a teacup saucer, it really can take the music anywhere you want it to go. The Crosley Revolution has crisp clear sound that can be delivered wirelessly to any FM radio. It plays at 2 speeds, 33 1/3 and 45 rpm and has a belt driven turntable mechanism. The Crosley has a dynamic full range speaker, a headphone jack and a passive audio out.

But the best part about the Crosley is that it features a USB hookup and an included software suite for ripping and editing my audio that will finally allow me to transfer my music to most of my personal entertainment gadgets and still be able to let them spin when I don't care that anyone who sees me will realize just how old I really am.

Available now for $149.95 from Crosley Radio

Garmin introduces Approach S1 GPS wristwatch

Posted: 29 Oct 2010 06:19 PM PDT

Most folks who play golf are pretty well off, or at least middle class at worst. Well, this means they have a pretty secure and cushy job, coupled with timeshare vacations elsewhere, own a couple of properties with the mortgage fully paid off perhaps, and drive a convertible sports car with an upmarket saloon for more ordinary errands.

This would also mean their choice of attire will be branded for most, not to mention having a pretty nice wristwatch with metal straps. Who would have thought that one would wear a GPS wristwatch instead? Garmin’s Approach S1 GPS wristwatch is meant for those who love spending time on the greens, as it is capable of displaying precise yardages to the front, back and middle of greens while boasting more than 14,000-plus courses pre-loaded.

The Approach S1 will constantly update information based on a golfer's actual real-time location, while measuring individual shot distances without missing a beat. Of course, this doesn’t mean it will not be able to tell you the time – no sir, it still does that with aplomb. Preloaded with 14,000-plus U.S. and Canadian courses, you won’t need any pesky subscriptions or downloads, just select "Start Round," choose your course and you're more than ready to tee off (with an advantage, of course). We do wonder what will happen when your mates find out about this unfair advantage though – will they club you over the head?

Being both rugged and waterproof, the Approach S1 will tip the scales at a mere 1.8 ounces, boasting an ultra-thin backlit display alongside a rechargeable lithium-ion battery which is capable of lasting up to 8 hours in GPS mode – that ought to be a whole lot longer than what you would spend on the greens, we suppose. As for watch mode, it can last for up to 3 weeks, making it ideal for the boardroom, the bunkers and all points in between.
