Power Plug Concept Cover for little fingers Posted: 07 Sep 2010 03:03 PM PDT The idea that your house could ever be completely childproof is a bit of a pipe dream. Sure, you can make it a whole lot safer, but there are always things you never would have thought could cause an injury. The idea is to keep those injuries minimal and try to make them happen as little as possible. One area that hasn’t been taken care of is when a metal plug slightly slips from a socket, leaving the metal exposed to curious fingers. I have never been worried that I’d shock myself on those metal pieces, but then I’m a full grown adult that knows to grab the plastic part. Little kids haven’t always learned that and until they do, you might want something to make you worry less. This blue cover will keep the metal covered whether it’s plugged in or not. If the plug slips a little, the plastic will shift to cover it. It’s just a concept right now by Luofang Jun, but I could easily see these hitting stores as just simple little adapter for your current plugs. Electric Walker from Alinco talks you through running Posted: 07 Sep 2010 02:52 PM PDT The newer treadmills have really handy programs and screens. They help you to go faster and slower when needed as well as add some inclines to the mix. It’s a pretty standard feature, but this Electric Walker 3010 from Alinco gives some extra features to help you really get a whole lot out of your workout. The treadmill has voice commands that will let you know when you need to go faster, but it even lets you know when you’re doing something wrong too. It also has inclines that’ll help you to have better posture while you’re running or walking. If you’re someone that doesn’t like to watch that tiny screen, it’ll be a nice change. It also folds away for easy storage in small spaces. You can purchase one for $592. Source: Newlaunches Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Posted: 07 Sep 2010 02:05 PM PDT I have occasionally come across a video of a cat or dog actually using the toilet. However, I can’t actually say that I’ve ever known anyone personally that has succeeded at the task. It seems more likely that you could get a dog to do it, just because I can’t say that I’ve ever managed to get a cat to do half of what a dog is willing to do to please their owner. However, this handy little seat is designed purely to make your cat go inside of the toilet instead of forcing you to clean a litter box. Just mount this seat directly to your toilet to get the process started. Actually, if you want to take the process extra slow, you can start out by placing the box on the floor and then attaching it to the toilet later. This comes with 30 disposable plastic bags. The design of the seat keeps your cat from tracking kitty litter and the other substances that lie within it all throughout the house. You can purchase one for $95.99 through Petco. Posted: 06 Sep 2010 09:03 PM PDT Toshiba has some interesting projects going on with televisions and computers, and this particular one is a robot that looks more like a side project, really. It is called the ApriPoco, and I’m not sure what the translates to. If you ask me, it sounds like Acapulco, which I’ve heard is a very nice place to go. Okay, I’m clearly getting off-topic. Anyway, this 8.4 inch tall robot is apparently an interesting universal remote control. In fact, there is a video of it after the jump, and you can see the lady speaking to the robot to make it do things. That is, I think that this is what is happening. The video is a little sketchy as it is in a language that I do not know, but you can watch the ApriPoco’s beady little eyes (which have cameras on them) as it takes commands from its master. Or, in the video’s case, the mistress. Note how the display behind them switches to a different image on command. For some reason, the video shows furniture that seems to move on command from its user. Is this Toshiba’s way of showing how they intend to give customers control over their entire place? I’m not certain if this is available at all, but it certainly looks like something that could be pretty popular at some point. Could you customize the ApriPoco so it looks like something else? Shiny Whistle Hides Flash Drive Posted: 06 Sep 2010 08:54 PM PDT If you know of a soccer coach that has a serious love for the shiny items in life, then this is one drive they’ll probably enjoy. It’s not exactly something for someone that prefers things to be a little more subtle, but sometimes you need a device that stands out in the crowd. This particular batch of shiny hides a tidy little flash drive within it for all of your much needed files. The Jewel Whistle is described as elegant by the seller, but I wouldn’t exactly go that far. It is at least an eccentric USB drive that’ll double as a necklace. It holds 4GB worth of data on the drive. To get to it the whistle just pulls apart. The cap stays on the chain while the rest pops free. You can purchase one of them for $25 through Gadget4all. Rechargeable LED Bulb becomes flashlight Posted: 06 Sep 2010 08:43 PM PDT Power going out is just a part of life. Storms hit and power lines sometimes go down and it’s even worse if you’re living outside of town. This rechargeable LED bulb may function as a normal bulb most of the time, but it has extra features that’ll keep you feeling safe and secure even during bad storms. These were created by a Chinese company called Magic Bulb that decided to show off their creation at IFA. These bulbs use all of 4 watts of power while shining as brightly as a 50W bulb. Within each bulb is a rechargeable battery that’ll keep the light running for up to 3 hours in the event of a power outage. If you need to run around and inspect the source of your power troubles these bulbs also have a handle that can be extended to turn the bulb into a flashlight. They’ll live for up to 20,000 hours. They’re hoping to sell these for $30-$40. That may seem like a lot for an ordinary light bulb, but you don’t really need to absolutely fill your home with these versatile bulbs. Posted: 06 Sep 2010 08:13 PM PDT Some people prefer to have top of the line sound accessories that only deliver the most crisp of sounds. However, for the most part I don’t really feel the need to spend a small fortune on earphones, earbuds, headphones and every other sound device destined to be jammed in your ears. Usually I go for comfort, but I do also like ones that fit my tastes. If you like cute little dolphins, then you’re in luck. Dolphins are one of those animals that seems to be loved by mostly females, I don’t know of a lot of guys that have dolphin figurines lying around. However, it does come in blue if you are a male that enjoys dolphins or a female that doesn’t really want the pink version of these. They come from Brightonnet and the shipping alone may require that you sacrifice a decent chunk of your paycheck. Source: Akihabara Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Posted: 06 Sep 2010 07:29 PM PDT We have reported on a lot of terrific building blocks in the past, such as glow-in-the-dark Bloxels, the wood and magnetic Tegu, and all sorts of things that are Lego. Just to let you know, these are not Lego. As a part-time Lego-maniac, I had a set that was a Battletrooper from Star Wars Episode I, and it was full of all sorts of Technic pieces that seem to shun the traditional square and rectangular pieces with bumps. This is the Bowei, and it has similar pieces that I have mentioned to the aforementioned Lego robot kit. As you can see, Bowei makes some serious robot mecha that look straight out of a Japanese anime cartoon like Robotech. This modular toy is probably not recommended for younger children. Some recent reviews have shown that the instructions seem to complex, but adults might want to try their hand at it. I suppose that you could give this to kids and have them try it out. You might be surprised what they can do. I wonder if they could play with these robots like they would other robot toys. They look durable enough. My Source doesn’t seem to have any information about where to purchase this guy, or how much it costs. Could it compete with Lego? Well, as much as I like them, I think Lego needs to have some friendly competition more than Mega Blocks. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Hands on with the Logitech Speaker System Z623 Posted: 06 Sep 2010 06:57 PM PDT I believe that the Logitech’s Speaker System Z623 is designed for the desktop, but it could easily be made as a low-budget home theater alternative. When I found that Logitech had sent me this product, I immediately decided to connect it to my television to see how well it works. It was good to have a THX certified system with 200 watts of power. The entire setup comes with the 130 Watts Subwoofer, which has a 7-inch pressure driver. The two satellite speakers are each 25 Watts with 2.5 inch dome drivers and aluminum phase plugs. Okay, that was the spec information, and, honestly, I don’t really know much about it. I’m not really a stereotypical stereo-type. I do know that once I had hooked it up to my television, I got some serious sound that was brash and loud, and it worked for my DVD and gaming system. The right speaker had a certain 3.5mm jack located just below the headphones. You can plug your iPod into it and immediately have the 200 Watt power. I did it with my laptop had had the same effect. It is good for Hulu videos. All in all, I am pretty pleased. I believe that the Logitech Speaker System Z623 is already shipping, at a MSRP of $149.99.
