Use the face for Nintendo DSi game Posted: 27 Jul 2010 05:28 PM PDT We all know that Microsoft is turning the whole body into a controller with the Kinect. Nintendo didn’t have anything like that for the Wii at E3 last month, because I guess they thought the 3DS was enough. There is a game for the DSiWare that does use your body as a controller, even though it is just your face. The game is called “Kao Glider”, which translates into “Face Glider”. Kao Glider is played by the user moving his or her face around. I presume that the DSi uses the camera to capture where the face is. So if you move your face up, the glider goes up. Move it down, the glider goes down, and so on. Now here is the real question. Do you really want to look like an idiot playing Kao Glider on a bus, train, airplane, or any other place where you are seen in public? I suppose you would if you want to humiliate yourself, but it is a way to get attention. I wonder what other type of “face games” you can create. I’m not just talking about games for the DSi Ware. After all, that iPhone 4 has that awesome front-facing camera. Surely there will be an App made for a face-moving game on the iPhone. Bendit Bookends keep it simple Posted: 27 Jul 2010 02:00 PM PDT About the time I go reorganizing my bookshelf I start seriously considering purchasing bookends. I just tend to grumble about it due to the lack of versatility that they come with. Most bookends can really only hold up one side of books at a time. However, these fancy Bendit Bookends are a whole lot more versatile thanks to their curvy shape. One of these can hold up and separate two sets of books and the other can do the same. If you suddenly only need to hold up one then it can go back to doing that as well. They’re not nearly as heavy or bulky as other bookends thanks to the materials used. They’re made out of nothing more than metal with a black rubber stopper on each end. To keep it simple with these bookends you can purchase a set of 2 for $28. Posted: 27 Jul 2010 01:00 PM PDT Getting kids comfortable with water isn’t exactly easy. I thought my niece would be a fish by now since she’s constantly out at her Grandparent’s house where she has access to a pool, but instead she’s actually a little nervous around water. This very fancy Baby Spa Pool was actually created for child care companies and might help kids be more comfortable with water. It has a whole lot of lighting features and will let them bob around while still allowing the worker to keep an extremely close eye on the baby. The glass side on it is to help the teacher be able to make sure the babies are safe. It has some spa functions like having some lights that will probably keep babies pretty well entranced. My guess is that this is going to be marketed at the very high end daycares, because I can’t see an overcrowded daycare being able to safely utilize this. With the balls and the flotation devices it would be a whole lot of fun for the little ones, but it would be a tricky device to use in a practical environment full of kids. This was featured at the 2010 Children Baby Maternity Exposition in Shanghai, China. There isn’t a whole lot of pricing information out there though. Posted: 27 Jul 2010 11:45 AM PDT Having a straight forward USB drive is just pure nonsense. It’s not worth your time until it has decided to disguise itself as something entirely different. After all, all of the best USB drives out there are in denial of their true function. It’s just no fun when they just give up and reveal that they are nothing more than an average USB drive. Thankfully Elecom is more than happy to provide a whole bunch of USB drives pretending to be plugs that need to be inserted into your wall. These small drives come in black, blue, green and pink. They even come with fancy data encryption software that can be downloaded through Elecom. Once it becomes available for sale you’ll be able to find these with 4GB of storage. They will be out in August, so you won’t have all that long to wait for these to hit stores. It’s said that it will definitely make it onto Geek Stuff 4U. At that point they’ll be priced at ¥3,200 or about $37. Source: OhGizmo Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Towable Turbocharger gives performance boost to watercraft Posted: 27 Jul 2010 06:30 AM PDT Want to give your recreational watercraft a boost? This tiny buoy known as the Towable Turbocharger will suspend a tow rope above the water’s surface, where it sits sits between two 30′ lengths of the included 4,100 lb.-strength tow rope, with one attached to your boat while the other to your towable, helping keep the rope free from your boat’s wake during turns that will ensure the line remains taut for faster towing speeds. This does away with the spray and drag which typically results from a rope being dragged through the water, making it the ideal solution for towables with low transom points. The buoy also ensures the tow rope remains visible to other boaters to avoid any untoward accidents. It is constructed out of a heavy PVC bladder covered by a zippered 840-denier nylon cover, boasting double-stitched seams and reinforced stress points to make sure it can last you for summers on end. The Towable Turbocharger can be yours this summer for $119.95 a pop. Check out the Coolest Gadgets 2008 Gift Guides, Christmas shopping made easy. Fujifilm FinePix Z800EXR offers new touch screen sensation Posted: 26 Jul 2010 07:18 PM PDT
With the Z800EXR’s new Phase Detection auto focusing system, it will automatically auto focus and snap an image whenever you press the button, without waiting for a few seconds in the process. To get a better idea on just how much faster it is compared to standard digital cameras, it will take all of just 0.158 seconds to capture an image for all eternity. With its phase detection Auto Focus, it will function in a way that divides the incoming light into pairs of images, while calculating the phase difference to check whether the object is in front focus or back focus position. This is a similar mechanism to that of external sensors on DSLRs, hence managing to achieve an incredibly fast auto focus speed. As for its 3.5″ touch-screen LCD display, it also lets you touch and shoot as well as touch and zoom, not to mention keeping up with the times by letting you flick your way through your collection of photos over its display. Boasting a generous 460K dots of resolution, you should be able to see all of the important information on the display itself without having to project it to a larger display. Thanks to its Dual Direction GUI and Dual Image Display, you will be able to navigate though the Z800EXR’s functions in a smooth and easy manner. Choose from gorgeous bright Red and a stunning matte Black as the color of your choice. Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. MetroPCS offers BlackBerry Curve 8530 Posted: 26 Jul 2010 06:52 PM PDT Want to get a BlackBerry but you are not quite sure where to start? Well, why not begin with MetroPCS as they offer the BlackBerry Curve 8530? This new smartphone will be available with unlimited talk, text, Web and data service, just in case you’re interested to keep in touch with family and friends round the clock without worrying too much about the final monthly bill. Features include Wi-Fi connectivity, e-mail, and turn-by-turn GPS navigation, where all of the mentioned will cost you a mere $60 monthly, where it already includes the whole range of applicable taxes and regulatory fees. When totaled, it is nearly half of what consumers would fork out in this day and age for other smartphone service plans at different carriers. Sounds like good value for money to us, considering the current economic climate. At $60 a month, MetroPCS’ BlackBerry service plan delivers exceptional value, where you will be able to take advantage of popular IM services as well as the ever famous and faithful BlackBerry Messenger, not to mention keeping your status updates right up to the second through a range of social media networks. Apart from that, you will also be able to access the latest content including games, ringtones and wallpapers via the @Metro App Store and BlackBerry App World. While it might not be as comprehensive as Apple’s App Store, at least it is better than nothing. With special MetroPCS applications such as Metro Navigator, Metro Back-up, Premium Directory Assistance and Metro Banking, you can be sure your life will be made a whole lot easier. Other hardware specifications include a full QWERTY keyboard for easier text messaging and email composition, while an optical trackpad keeps up with the times since the good old trackball tends to gather dust over time. It is rather unfortunate that the digital camera maxes out at just 2-megapixels, complete with zoom and video recording. Interested? Might be a good start for those who are trying to figure their way around in the world of smartphones. Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist.
