UZI Tactical Defender Pen takes DNA

Posted: 08 Jan 2010 03:00 PM PST

If you’re worried about keeping yourself safe, finding the right weapon to do that with can be tricky.  Personally, I have some pepper spray I keep on a keychain, but I’ve noticed that guys for the most part don’t want to carry something like that.  However, this pen is discreet and manly enough that it would work out great for either sex.  Not only does this tactical pen manage to injure your attacker, but it also takes a quick sample of their DNA.

Then once you’ve managed to escape and get to a police station you have on hand the attacker’s DNA.  You just have to make sure to pull the pen back out of the wound while you’re getting away.  When you’re not feeling threatened it will work just fine as a normal pen.  The pen is supposed to be going for $20.  You can find out more information on the pen through CampCo.

The Palm-Sized DVD Player

palm-sized-dvd-player

Tiny screens to watch your DVDs on are nothing new.  Many cars come with them packed into them to keep the kids in the backseat entertained.  Well this one is a palm sized one for you to carry around.  It’s definitely smaller than having to carry around your laptop in order to watch a DVD while you’re trying to kill some time somewhere.  Whether or not you’d prefer a larger screen and sacrifice lightweight portability is of course a personal preference issue though.

This DVD player has built-in speakers, as well as coming with a pair of earbuds to discreetly listen to the DVD.  It also has an anti-skip feature to make it possible to watch your favorite DVDs when your ride isn’t exactly smooth.  The TFT LCD screen measures 3 and ½ inches.  It also has an integrated stand that adjusts for multiple viewing angles.  There’s a USB port and memory card slot so you can view pictures or video from your computer or camera.  The rechargeable battery pack will last 2 hours on a 3 hour charge.  In order to charge it you’ll have to use the AC adapter.  A remote control and an AV cable are also included.  You can purchase the DVD player for $149.95 from Hammacher Schlemmer.

Xtractaurs for online and real life playtime

Kids gaming can have some worthwhile benefits despite that video and computer games have received a bad reputation.  These Xtractaurs strive to give the kids a toy to play with in real life as well as on the computer.  Don’t worry, it’s not one of the boring educational games that your kids will get bored of after two or three rounds.  With this surely it’ll take at least 6 or 7 times of playing the game.  That has to be some kind of a record.  Plus even after they’re bored of the game, they still have a toy dinosaur to enjoy.

These Xtractaurs come in several different versions including the Triceratop, ThePteranodon, Utahraptor and Stegosaurus.  This is actually the starter kit, it includes the extraction gun that allows for them to take a sample of their dinosaur’s "DNA".  Then it uploads the dinosaur into a virtual dinosaur world where the kids can fight other virtual monsters.  When they’re bored of fighting there are also puzzles, an arcade and other action games.  All of which will make their dinosaur even stronger.  You can purchase the starter kit for about $9.97 through Amazon.  As for the additional dinosaurs, they range from about $9 on up to $30.

Build Your Own PC Race for Charity at CES 2010

Posted: 08 Jan 2010 07:19 AM PST

CIMG2287Last night, at the first night of CES, Systemax, CA, and Intel teamed up to sponsor the 13th Annual Build Your Own PC Race for Charity.

It was held at the Latour Ballroom at the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas (right next to CES Showstoppers), and it was actually more spectacular than I ever thought it would be.

When I got there, it was nothing but food and subtle party atmosphere, but on some tables in the corner were some casing for some desktops, and all the parts and tools necessary to complete them.

There was an announcer who was going throughout the room, hyping up everything, and the event didn’t swing into action until two hours after it had started. This is when all 30 competitors, who are journalists that represent the PC industry took their positions at their PCs.

When the contest began, they frantically built their PCs with both speed and precision. As you can see by the photo, some contestants took their fight to the floor. The first contest who got their PC working won. That person was Chris Ramseyer of Tweak Town, who now gets $10,000 donated to the charity of his chioce.

In short, last night’s event was nothing short of GeekSPN. It’s something that I wouldn’t mind seeing televised.
