I suppose that Lorex’s LiveSense LW2401 is meant to be a Baby Monitor, but honestly, it can be a lot more than that.

The LW2401 allows the user instant video, and it comes with a camera and a 3.5 inch monitor. I got a chance to try it out, and I didn’t have to do any calibration or anything. The moment I turned the devices, they were paired.

From there, I had a baby monitor as well as any type of video monitoring for my home. I could even record the video on a microSD card, which was included in the package. The microSD card came with an adapter, as well as a USB cable for downloading to a computer.

For those who are interested in using the Lorex LiveSD as a baby monitor, then you should know about its features. It has an electronic temperature sensor to monitor the climate in the baby’s room. It also has a two-way audio between the camera and monitor in case you want to talk to your baby with a disembodied voice. It even plays lullabies for crying out loud.

For those not interested in using this device for a baby monitor might be interested in hearing that you can add up to 3 additional cameras. You can also use view the handheld monitor from anywhere using Skype.

Brando USB optical mouse serves as digital scale

We have seen a lot of interesting products come out of Brando before, and they are often quite useful in certain situations. For example, there was the Bike Crash Cam, good for lawsuits involving a two-wheeled bike accidents.

This USB optical mouse also seems good for only certain situations. As you can see, there is a working scale on this mouse. It has a cover so you are not constantly weighing your fingers.

The problem that I see is that I don’t think I really need a device like this. While it is handy to have a scale on one’s desktop, I don’t really need one that can only go up to 500 grams. I wonder if there is an app for something like this.

I suppose that if you are in the business of shipping small items, this would come in handy. After all, I do a lot of business on eBay, and I have a postal scale for that. I don’t even think that I could put an envelope on this.

However, if you are in a business where weighing small things is important (and I’m not talking about drugs), this USB Optical Mouse with Pocket Digital Scale might come in handy. You should be able to get it from Brando here for a price of $22.

Giant lady appears in Hamburg’s Alster Lake

We have seen some interesting giant sculptures before, like those big ones powered by the wind. This one that you see here is created by Oliver Voss on Alster Lake in Hamburg.

According to my Source, it appeared in the lake on August 3, and it rises four meters above the surface of the water. It is not a permanent edition to this body of water, as it will stop being on display until August 12.

This sculpture is called “Badenixe”, which translates to “bathing beauty”. Another name is “Riesen-Nixe”, which translates to “grand mermaid”. Clearly, it doesn’t look like a traditional mermaid, as it apparently does not have a fish tail. Unless this lady has some backwards arms, those two lumps in front of her are legs.

Apparently, this lady has caused quite a controversy since many interpret this lady as being nude. I suppose that you could interpret that from what you see above the waterline, and one might want to question why someone would put a giant skinny dipper in this public attraction.

I’ll let you decide whether this sculpture is worth keeping, and I haven’t heard any plans to extend its swim. There are more pictures of it at my Source, and I’ll also let you decide whether she blends well into the surroundings like the Statue of Liberty.

I would say that it is confirmed that babies, while they smell really nice, do get dirty – and often, too. Skytex Primer Pocket media tablet is on Team Android

I guess it is more or less a given that the iPod touch is the undisputed portable media player, taking over the regular iPod’s reign many years ago. Since the iPod hit the market and catapulted right to the top of the food chain, nothing else released since then by other manufacturers actually managed to dislodge the iPod from its lofty position. That is just the way some of the things are in the world, but perhaps things might change in the future. For the moment, even Skytex’s Primer Pocket media tablet is no match, never mind that it runs off the Android operating system from Google.

The Primer Pocket will be a 4.3″ media tablet that does blur the line between a smartphone and a portable media player. While it is far too small to be considered as a tablet, we don’t think the 4.3″ display on this without cellular capability qualifies it for being a smartphone, either, letting it remain within no man’s land, so to speak. What else can the Primer Pocket hold that might just increase your interest level in it?

You will just have to wait until August 18th arrives as the Primer Pocket will hit store shelves by then, costing you $99 in the process. Sounds like an affordable figure, although this is one case where you do get what you pay for – a 4.3" multi-touch display, wireless 802.11b/g/n connectivity, a built-in G-sensor, as well as Android 2.2 Froyo right out of the box. I’m still stumped as to why there is not Android 2.3 Gingerbread released for this, perhaps Skytex thought it wasn’t necessary to do so.

Hardware specifications of the Primer Pocket include a 4GB internal flash drive, while you can top that up by another 16GB if you decide to throw in a microSD memory card of that capacity. Overall, the Primer Pocket is slim in nature and ought to fit into most pockets. This seems to be a smartphone that has its cellular functions turned off.
