This is the greatest robot costume, ever!

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 04:56 PM PDT

I realize that I am about a week late for any Halloween-related postings, but this robot costume should win any costume contest in any month.

I don’t have the name of the man who made (and probably wore) this costume, but, according to my Source, it took 250 hours to build this costume.

You can watch a video of it in motion after the jump. You will note that the sounds of its footsteps are not the heavy metal clanging that you would expect.

Yes, it costs a lot to make this costume, at an estimated $1000. It cost $600 on metal, aluminum, and parts, $250 for rivets and bolts, $200 for tools, $90 for the paint, and $210 to rent the truck that carries the costume. This doesn’t fit in back of the car, apparently.

Man, where was this guy when they were designing the real Power Loader Exoskeleton. I just saw a really bad Halloween episode of Community where the character Troy dons a really cheesy-looking Power Loader suit like Ripley wore in Aliens, but this one robot costume is the real deal.

I think the next question is could someone make one of these things with real guns and all the stuff that you see in Japanese animated mecha cartoons? Perhaps this is a project for the military to undertake in the future, as in right now.

FLEXiT Light is flexible for your needs

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 04:30 PM PDT

Some of you might remember when we reported on the Striker Magnetic Light Mine, which is a red magnetic ball capable of bringing light where it is needed.

The same company that made the Magnetic Light Mine has made the FLEXiT Light, which also capable of pretty much the same thing, but in a different way.

This “magic carpet of LEDs” can be folded and bent like you see in the picture. It reminds me of Black and Decker’s Snakelight, but instead of having a light on the end of the apparatus, lights are all over the place on one side. Just think of it as several Snakelights in a row, with lights on the spine and not on the head. So I suppose it would be like a…whatever you call a group of snakes, light.

To make it even more convenient, the FLEXiT also includes a loop for hanging with a pair of neodymium magnets for sticking to metal surfaces.

It is powered by 3 AA batteries which are separated from the twisting mat itself. You notice that the battery flap can serve as sort of a holder for this thing, like the stand for your flatscreen television.

You should be able to get the FLEXiT from the Striker Store for about $29.99.

SensEpil™ by Silk’n – because shaving is no fun.

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 10:07 AM PDT

Remember the very first time you talked your mom into letting you shave your legs, It was so much fun, exciting, and so grown up. After that first time, I have to admit it pretty much sucked, and now I have to decide, knee socks and pants, or a shave? So thank goodness theres SensEpil™ by Silk’n a very portable pulsed light hair removal system thats been FDA cleared and promises to give you the very same results as those inconvenient and expensive treatments at the dermatologists office, all in the privacy of your own home.

SensEpil is considered safe and effective on lighter skin complexions with dark hair growth, a specialized sensor is built-in to the unit to activate the light energy onto only the appropriate skin types, ensuring your maximum safety. SenEpil's use should be confined to unwanted hair on arms, legs, underarms, bikini lines or other hairy bits, including your face, only from the cheek line down, taking special precautions with your eyes and lips.

Light and laser based hair removal has been used in medical offices for over 15 years, and is based upon the ability of dark hair to absorb the light energy and transform it into heat, which in turn disables hair growth. Most people seem to see results in 4 treatments and fantastic results after 6. It works on men too.

I'm going to iron my skirt!

For $499.00 the unit comes with 1 disposable lamp cartridge, an instructional DVD with a quick start guide. Additional cartridges are $49.00

Air Hunterz Z-Curve Bow

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 09:15 AM PDT

Robin Hood wannabes, here is something for you to check out – the Air Hunterz Z-Curve Bow that costs all of just £19.99. The trusty bow has been Robin’s weapon of choice for a long time now, as well as his band of merry men, and you can now continue in his legacy without having to wear lincoln green all the time.

The high performance Air Hunterz Z-Curve Bow will rely on the time-honored (albeit pimped-up technology) tradition to shoot its arrows for more than 100 feet. Of course, these won’t be able to pierce human skin since they’re made out of some rather squishy material, with a quartet of strategically positioned tubular bands providing the necessary firepower with a pistol-style grip helping you steady the bow before you shot. All you need to do is place your arrow, draw back, aim and release. Each purchase comes with a couple of long-range arrows and one special Zartz suction cup arrow to have the latter stick where it matters.

360 Degree Oscillating Heater

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 09:00 AM PDT

For those of us living in the northern hemisphere, it goes without saying that the mercury has already started to drop ever since fall started, and with winter coming right up, it makes perfect sense to ensure that you have enough heating elements lying around – blankets for your family as well as guests, as well as a working heater. Of course, sometimes the weather can be that unpredictable that it could turn out to be unusually cold that year – which is where reinforcements are required. Hammacher has got your (cold) back with the 360 Degree Oscillating Heater, making sure that this portable heater will be able to radiate heat in a full circle, distributing warmth evenly throughout an entire room. A 360º sweep of this heater will ensure everyone in the room doesn’t have to huddle around like penguins, but can remain comfortably warm much faster. Each $79.95 purchase also comes with a palm-sized remote, letting you set the temperature as well as alternative oscillation modes of 90º and 170º. You can choose to set it to high (1500 watts) or low (900 watts), or to maintain a constant temperature with the built-in digital thermostat.

Western Digital announces WD Photos photo viewer

Posted: 05 Nov 2010 08:33 AM PDT

Western Digital has just announced their latest WD Photos photo viewer which enables Android-powered smartphone users to view all the photos that are stashed away on their WD home network drive, where among them include My Book Live, My Book World Edition and WD ShareSpace models, as long as an Internet connection is present. Not only that, iPad owners can also carve a smile on their faces as the WD Photos app also is available for the iPad. iPhone, iPhone 4 and iPod touch owners will also be able to take advantage of the WD Photos photo viewer, but as of right now, Android users too can jump in on the action.

Specially meant for the Android platform, the WD Photos app will play nice with the most popular Android OS-based smartphones, bringing native resolution and including, but not limited to, the Droid by Motorola, DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC, Nexus One, and HTC EVO 4G. Once you have copied your favorite digital photos into the Shared Pictures folder on the WD network drive, the WD Photos app will offer you access to your photo library when connected to the home network, either that or from anywhere you can access the Internet thanks to compatible mobile devices.

Your photos will obviously remain private, safe and secure on your network drive, doing away with the need for time-consuming uploads to costly online photo services, not to mention the need to choose which pictures to sync to your Android smartphone. Using just your Android device, you can search for your specific photos by name or the date the photo was taken, going through thumbnail previews while sharing all of your memories with friends and family. Among the features of the WD Photos Photo Viewer App include automatic resizing for photos on Android devices without resizing the originals on the network drives, smart filtering for quick and easy photo location, access to previously viewed photos offline, sharing of photos, assigning a photo to a particular contact as well as viewing photos in a slideshow.

The WD Photos photo viewer app works great with Android OS 2.1 or later, and is compatible with WD’s My Book Live and My Book World Edition network drives and WD ShareSpace network storage systems. You must first register with WD’s free remote access service though in order to use the app.

World’s Best Prelit Noble Fir

Posted: 04 Nov 2010 06:51 PM PDT

The Yuletide season will be upon us soon again – how fast time flies, eh? Well, if you are looking to make sure your home is Christmas-sy enough, then you would do well to check out the World’s Best Prelit Noble Fir from Hammacher. It was specially molded from a live Abies procera, making it the most realistic Noble fir worldwide at the moment (as claimed by Hammacher), boasting meticulously strung lights with a lifetime guarantee – now how about that? Not too sure whether it is guaranteed against little devils running around it and toppling it with their inquisitive fingers though. This is touted to be the only tree with three-dimensional, injection-molded branch tips that replicate the exact growth patterns, round, curved needles, and branch silhouettes of a freshly cut Noble fir. This 7 1/2′ tree boasts 4,400 branch tips, which is nearly over 2,000 more than typical trees. Considering that each one is hand painted, the $199.95 price point you pay for this can be said to be extremely reasonable. The lights provide up to 16,000 hours of bright white illumination, boasting an integrated circuit within each bulb that maintains an illumination even when other bulbs on the strand are removed or broken.

Hitachi unveils slim new G-Technology G-DRIVE

Posted: 04 Nov 2010 05:59 PM PDT

External or portable hard drives are pretty popular these days, especially for those who tend to do a whole lot of traveling (or tote around netbooks, since those devices are notorious for not having enough storage space for a decent computer user). Well, if you’re going to carry around another computer peripheral in your notebook or netbook bag, why not make sure it is as slim and light as possible?

After all, we wouldn’t want you to look disproportionate with one shoulder being larger than the other after a long haul business trip, eh? Enter the G-Technology G-DRIVE external hard drive from Hitachi – this puppy will be out in time for the holiday season, making it the perfect companion to the Apple Macbook, MacBook Pro or Macbook Air thanks to its amazingly slim form factor.

This new slim G-DRIVE external hard drive will deliver 320GB of storage space as well as USB 2.0 connectivity (USB 3.0 would have been a winner in our books, but beggars can’t be choosers, eh?), and was specially designed from the inside out to emulate G-Technology's famous quality and style for the Apple Mac market. Of course, you can always use this with non-Mac products, but it looks best when accompanying one of the machines with a fruity logo on it.

The new G-DRIVE slim will use Hitachi’s rugged, 7mm Travelstar Z5K320 drive inside, resulting in it being the thinnest, 2.5-inch external hard drive in the world at the moment. WIth a footprint that measures just 128.6mm x 82mm x 9.9mm, its sleek design will also feature an recyclable aluminum enclosure. It tips the scales at just 144g (5 oz) thereabouts, and also boasts operating shock protection and quiet acoustics.

Formatted for Macs with simple plug n' play connectivity, the G-DRIVE slim is also Time Machine ready just in case you need additional backup protection. Being USB-powered means you need not tote around another extra power cord on your travels. Each purchase will cost $99.99 – slightly more expensive than a vanilla 320GB drive, but you pay for the aesthetics, no?
