Posted: 23 Feb 2010 03:34 PM PST Every time that I go to conferences, like CES, I always come home with a stack of business cards. Then it becomes a matter of getting all of the information from my contacts into the computer, usually entering it in by hand. You can imagine how long that this process takes. However, I had a chance to try it the CardScan Personal, and found it to be a very great timesaver. Of course, this wasn’t a simple plug and play feature like the Adesso Browser Cat. No, I knew from the get-go that there would be some lengthy software downloads, and there was. Eventually, it gave the order for me to hook it up to my computer via USB. When it asked for the first scan, I simply grabbed one of my many business cards at random. It scanned it in seconds, and I had my contact information in digital form. Granted, it wasn’t perfect, as it read the company’s partnership name as the company itself. I figured that it might screw up on something like that, but it is easy to double-check and make corrections. The hardest part of all was figuring out how to sync the Card reader contacts with Outlook. It turned out that it wasn’t all that difficult. If you’ve got a similar problem with your business cards piling up, then I would suggest the low cost alternative of the CardScan Personal, another fine DYMO product that you can purchase here. Posted: 23 Feb 2010 03:10 PM PST Many of you know that I cannot stand to use the touchpad, but I know that there are a lot of you out there who never bring a mouse with you when you are working on your touchpad laptop. I am assuming that the Adesso Browser Cat is made for those who just have to have the touchpad, but it isn’t on their PC keyboard. That, or those who don’t have a touchpad on their laptop. (Are there any laptops that don’t have this touchpad feature these days?) The Browser cat is different than most touchpads as it has a specially marked place for the vertical scrolling. With the proper drivers installed, it can also do horizontal scrolling as well. The only other feature that makes it different from a regular touchpad is a specially designated area to designate a right click. I had a chance to try out the USB version, and I was glad that it didn’t require an CD-Rom or anything to install. It was a plug and play procedure that my computer recognized in seconds. All in all, the Browser Cat is a useful appendage to replace a typical trackpad. I have no idea why it is called the Browser Cat, is that so it can be a companion to my mouse? If anything, it will be my mouse that will probably kill the Browser Cat in my case. You should be able to get it at the Adesso site now for $39.99. Posted: 23 Feb 2010 03:00 PM PST There have been a few different ways to label cords to make it easier for you to unplug gadgets when they’re not in use. This gadget will make it easier for you to know which plug goes with which gadget. Plus it will make it a whole lot easier to unplug your different gadgets. Plus you can pick and choose just how many outlets you want on the power strip. If this weren’t a concept design, you would get to choose which stickers you want and how many of the cubes you’d like to buy. Then at a later time you could buy a couple more of the cubes to plug into the rest of the strip. Just place the stickers with each respective plug. Then when it’s time to unplug it, instead of tugging on the cord, you just push down on the back of the plug. Unfortunately this is still a concept, so you won’t be able to purchase these just yet. Inflatable Sleeping Coat is raincoat, sleeping bag, and mattress Posted: 23 Feb 2010 02:18 PM PST This Inflatable Sleeping Coat is more versatile than the jacket that Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future II. This super-jacket, for lack of a better word, is designed by designer Lin Tsui-Wei, and it is a raincoat, sleeping coat, sleeping bag, and even a mattress all in one. Normally, this coat ends at below the crotch and above the knees, but the Inflatable Sleeping Coat has a detachable skirt that goes all the way down to the feet for protection from the rain. Of course, what really makes this work is the inflate-ability. You will note how you can sleep with it on and inflated for cushioned softness during the wintertime, or lay it down like a mattress in the summertime. Now, I have no idea how it inflates. I am assuming that there isn’t some sort of mechanical pump inside of it like an emergency raft. I’m guessing that has to be done with the user’s lips. I could be wrong, though. I’m also guessing that this is probably the perfect outfit for anyone who wants to be on Man vs. Wild. A recent comment from my source says that it would be useful for the homeless. That kind of undercuts the plight of the homeless, doesn’t it? Check out the Coolest Gadgets 2008 Gift Guides, Christmas shopping made easy. Multi-Task Gloves with LED Lights Posted: 23 Feb 2010 02:00 PM PST There is no shortage of gadgets trying to offer mechanics hands-free lighting while they’re attempting to fix a car. Be it lights with magnets attached or lights that are capable of wrapping around and clinging to items underneath the hood. Now you can even own a pair of mechanics gloves that have LED lights built directly into the pointer finger. I haven’t decided if these lights would be helpful or make you crazy. By no means does it seem as if they’d be good to replace one of those magnetic lights. However, keeping them on might make it possible to get light into areas when your hands are in the way. The lights will either make you nauseous from them moving around every time you turn a wrench or make it easier to find that bolt that slipped through your fingers. You can purchase the gloves for $22.95 through Amazon. Source: GeekyGadgets Check out the Coolest Gadgets 2008 Gift Guides, Christmas shopping made easy. Touchless Paper Towel Dispenser Posted: 23 Feb 2010 12:58 PM PST When I cook, despite that I’m a pretty decent cook, it still looks like a bomb was dropped in the kitchen. That usually means I’m covered in half the items I’ve measured out for a recipe. When I go to clean off my hands, I’d rather not mess up four pieces of paper towel while I’m trying to grab for only one of those pieces. Thankfully someone has created a way to prevent getting gunk all over the entire roll when you just need one small piece. Just wave your hand in front of the infrared sensor and it will offer up one piece of your paper towels. It is smart enough to sense the perforations in the sheets of paper towel, so it knows exactly how much it’s spitting out. You can set it to dispense 1, 2 or just a half of a sheet. The Touchless Paper Towel Dispenser comes in red, silver and white. You can purchase it for $79.95 through Hammacher. Posted: 23 Feb 2010 05:30 AM PST Are you fed up of little kids not listening to your instructions on keeping the toilet bowl free of candy wrappers and other stuff other than toilet paper? Well, chances are you would then have had experience with using a plunger, sapping up much of your strength in the process. Why not give the Johnny Jolter Power Plunger a go instead to help you out in this unsavory job? The Johnny Jolter Power Plunger retails for $29.98, and since it is made out of plastic, we would recommend you go easy on the strength as it might break in a moment of enthusiasm. Guess this is something that won’t last more than a few years, since we know that plastic tends to become brittle after some time.

Samsung unveils waterproof AQ100 digital camera Posted: 23 Feb 2010 04:30 AM PST
The AQ100 manages to cram in a slew of features and functions into a body that measures a mere 0.78″ thin, where it can work even in up to 10 feet of water, courtesy of the camera's exceptional low-light performance that lets it snap bright images at that depth. After all, the AQ100's does come with a dedicated Aqua mode that will optimize camera settings for the best possible underwater photos. On land, it doesn’t wobble at all in terms of performance, boasting an ample, 5x optical inner zoom lens with Digital Image Stabilization that helps snap ever sharp photos sans blur. Not only that, you are able to check out whatever you have just captured thanks to its bright, 2.7″ TFT LCD display. Shooting digital stills isn’t the only thing the AQ100 can do well – it is also capable of recording 720p HD video above or below the water. Shooting video will also kick in the image stabilization function, making sure that it compensates for any shakes or stutter experienced if you have frayed nerves while a shark is heading towards your way. The 12-megapixel shooter known as the Samsung AQ100 will be available later this spring for $199.99. Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. Samsung rolls out HMX-U20 and HMX-U15 camcorders Posted: 23 Feb 2010 04:00 AM PST Samsung is slowly but surely maturing in the world of camcorders and digital cameras with the recent introduction of the HMX-U20 as well as the HMX-U15. Both of these models will build on the success of the Samsung HMX-U10, where one is able to experience new features and functionality which includes a built-in USB connection, a true 3x optical zoom for the HMX-U20. To get a more in-depth view of both camcorders, why not head on to the extended post and read all about it? Who knows, you might just end up spending a little bit more dough than you would like without any regret. Both the HMX-U20 and HMX-U15 are equipped with high-performing 1/2.3 inch CMOS sensors that go a long way in capturing stunning, 1,920 x 1,080 full HD resolution video at 30 fps in the H.264 format. Apart from that, you can also use either device to shoot still images if that is your cup of tea, with the HMX-U20 capturing 10-megapixel digital still images, while the HMX-U15 does slightly better at 14-megapixels. Basically, this is a two-in-one digital imaging solution, doing away with the need for a dedicated digital camera, although some others might still prefer the flexibility and quality of a more powerful compact digital camera or DSLR. Hyper Digital Image Stabilization has been thrown in to produce blur-free video, with the HMX-U20 adding a true 3x optical zoom to get up close and personal with a subject of your choice from afar. Apart from that, Samsung allows you to get more creative with time lapse recording, letting you program the camcorder to record at a pre-set interval of one image every one, five, 10 or 30 seconds. Both models also sport a built-in, swing-out style USB connection that makes it a snap to connect to a computer when it comes to data transfer, doing away with the need to carry yet another USB cable. In addition, both camcorders can be charged when plugged into a powered USB port, which also eliminates the need for a separate charger when traveling. Since the world is moving into high definition these days, HDMI connectivity is also included for you to have seamless connectivity with your spanking new HDTV. Both devices rely on the SDHC memory card format to store all recorded video. The Samsung HMX-U20 and HMX-U15 will be released this spring for $229.99 and $249.99, respectively. General Imaging unveils Create by Jason Wu line of digital cameras Posted: 22 Feb 2010 06:04 PM PST
The Create line will seamlessly blend Wu’s rich sense of style with the latest camera technology, where one will be able to enjoy one-touch operation when it comes to video recording, snapping photos as well as photo deletion, doing away with the need for navigating through a bunch of menu levels and screens. Apart from that, compatibility and connectivity issues are also relegated to the past with Create, since the camera itself comes with built-in memory and has a retractable USB plug that makes it a snap to transfer and view photos and videos over a compatible device such as a notebook or desktop, heck, you can even hook it up to a TV if your TV supports USB connectivity. Create comes with pre-loaded software that allows automatic backup and playback of pictures and video on computers, while playing nice with iPhoto for those running on Macs. Create by Jason Wu will ship with 4GB of internal memory as standard, featuring 12-megapixels of resolution, 3X Zoom and 2.7" LCD display, retailing for all of $179.99. Folks who want more space can always look out for the 8GB model which is going for $229.99. Would be nice to see the ability to augment its internal memory with a memory card slot of sorts though. Create metal colors comprise of white, black, gold, red, yellow, blue and green, while folks who prefer to sport leather can choose from white, black and gray colors.
