Hot Wheels makes pocket-sized RC cars now

I’m sure that you all remember Hot Wheels, and how you can race them on flat surfaces and specially made tracks, with the occasional loop-de-loop.

Now Hot Wheels cars are remote controlled. That’s right, Hot Wheels actually made their tiny cars into R/C cars.

I have no idea how fast they go, but they are very unique in their ability to fold up and stash themselves within their own controllers, which are about the size of iPhones. These controllers have the same stickers and colors of the cars, so you know what controller controls what car.

These Hot Wheels R/C cars, or Stealth rides, have controllers with forward and back arrows, and are capable of turns as well. The tiny cars are powered by three calculator batteries, and the controllers use two similar batteries. Battery life is not so hot at about 45 minutes a set, and they really should have some recharging capability for the next version of these tiny R/C cars.

The cars currently come in four wheeled and tank tread modes, in two colors. They cost about $25, and there will even be a Batmobile Tumbler coming in October. That’s the Batmobile model that you see in the Christopher Nolan Batman movies, in case you don’t know.

The Stealth Racers look like they could be the next hot item stocking stuffer for the coming holiday season.

P&P Office Waste Paper Processor turns paper into pencils

Some of you might remember when we reported on the paper shredder that can turn ordinary office paper into toilet paper. It certainly seems an economical and ecological use of used paper, and the P&P Office Waste Paper Processor does something similar.

This particular device turns paper into something that offices will always need: pencils. That is what the P&P means, I suppose: paper to pencil.

In case you are wondering, you have to provide your own pencil lead. Actually, the “lead” in a pencil is graphite, but that is beside the point. The point is that you will be using the same material that you put in mechanical pencils, but the end result will be a regular pencil.

I am assuming that these pencils will not have erasers, unless you can somehow supply the erasers like the you can supply the lead. You will probably get those golf pencils that have no erasers, but are good for just jotting down things.

As you can tell from the clear computer generated mock-up of the P&P device in the illustration above, this device is in a concept stage. However, recycling is always the way to go, so anything that helps with that should work for offices of the future.

Smart Book is more than the sum of its parts

I think many of us suffer from gadget-itis, a case where we have way too many mobile devices. The primary symptom is having too much digital content spread out over a laptop, tablet, and mobile phone.

Often, none of these devices are synced, so it is difficult to find what file we need at the right time. Fortunately, this Smart Book hopes to end that.

I have a video after the jump of a man showing how it works. The notebook has a detachable screen that can be used as a tablet, and the tablet has a detachable mobile device that can be used as a phone.

It certainly isn’t like anything I have ever seen before, especially with its slot that stores a 2GB USB dongle. That alone could sell me. If all of these parts add up to a greater whole and sync together easily, then I am totally sold.

As for internal specs, this has an ARM Cortex-A8 CPU with 512MB of RAM. As for storage, it has 256MB of NAND flash and an 8GB microSD card of storage. It also has 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, and could have an OS of Ubuntu, Android, and possibly Google Chrome OS.

Smart Book isn’t ready for shipping as yet, but pre-orders can be taken at $549 for the whole thing and $199 per individual component. If you ask me, a multifaceted device like this could be the way of the mobile future.
