Hands on with the Wii Premium Fitness Board from Snakebyte

Posted: 21 Jun 2011 11:36 AM PDT

Yesterday, I reported on some interesting Wiimotes from Snakebyte, and I will have to admit that I wished Nintendo made their controllers with their Snakebyte’s design. Today, I will discuss Snakebyte’s version of the Wii Balance Board.

Again, Snakebyte managed to create a version of the Balance Board that I wished Nintendo created originally. The first thing that you will notice is how the balance board has a tiny screen on the top-center that isn’t included with Nintendo’s Wii Kit. That is designed to take your weight, at all times.

Yes, you can use the Wii Premium Fitness Board as your bathroom scale. Not only that, it has some very nifty blue lights on the side.

It is pretty fantastic, but the thing that I don’t know is how it compares to the Wii balance board. In other words, is it more sensitive than the one that already comes with the Wii Fit kit? I tried it out, and I honestly didn’t see a difference.

You should be able to get the Wii Premium Fitness Board at the Snakebyte website for a price of about $54.99. Just to let you know, it is usually $69.99, and I think that is a sale price.

Japanese military makes a flying orb camera

Posted: 21 Jun 2011 11:07 AM PDT

What you are seeing here is not done with wire removal, but we are seeing a flying robot ball. It bears a strong resemblance to the torture ball robot from the original Star Wars movie, but this doesn’t have a needle on it, but a camera.

Yes, the purpose of the flying robot ball is to float in and take pictures. Its ball shape makes it more resistant, it case it bumps into walls.

This flying orb was designed by the Japan’s Ministry of Defense Technical Research and Development Institute. It can travel at a top speed of 40 miles per hour, and files on a single propeller with eight wings. You can see more of it on a video after the jump.

I suppose that this could be used to scope out enemy territory, but the big black ball looks pretty easy to shoot down. Personally, I think it has more uses in the private sector.

Imagine if your boss put this flying camera on your back in order to monitor your job performance. Yeah, I don’t like that idea, and it reminds me of an episode of Regular Show called “Peeps”. If you aren’t watching the Cartoon Network’s Regular Show, you are missing out on one of the funniest things on television.

But I don’t want to digress on that too much. As for this flying orb camera, it only cost $1,000 to make, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more of it in the future.

New Batmobile design is earth-friendly, designed by a legend

Posted: 21 Jun 2011 10:33 AM PDT

We have seen a lot of Batmobiles driven by the caped crusader in the movies, television, and comic books. Most of them have interesting gadgets, and many are not grounded in reality. Think about the Batmobile that drove up the wall in Batman Forever.

Some people don’t like the Humvee look in the latest Batman films, and Gordon Murray, legendary Formula One car designer, created this one. As far as I know, it won’t be used in the new Batman film coming next summer, but designed for a Batman Live World Arena Tour in the United Kingdom. You can see a video of it after the jump.

Murray designed this Batmobile with elements that may actually exist in the next 15 to 20 years. For example, it has a hydrogen-powered engine that produces a by-product of water. Not only is the Batmobile eco-friendly, but it has a “breathable” carbon fiber, another interesting technology.

Then there is the neat features like the “virtual wheels” with the LED lights that create an interesting effect. Hopefully, the Batmobile will not lose one of these wheels. That’s a reference to the “Jingle Bells, Batman smells” song, in case you missed it.

If you want to see this new Batmobile for yourself, follow the tour in the United Kingdom, and it will soon be coming to the United States.

LG Machjet LPP6010N is the fastest printer yet

Posted: 21 Jun 2011 09:59 AM PDT

Everyone is obsessed with the need for speed – otherwise, how else do you explain the ever increasing speed found in your computer processor as well as higher frame rates in video games? Printers aren’t exempt from this technological rat race too, you know, with the LG Machjet LPP6010N laying claim to be the fastest A4 color desktop printer in the world. It will be made available later this month via authorized LG resellers and channel partners, so do keep a keen eye out if you’re interested in upgrading your office or home’s printer to the LG Machjet LPP6010N.

Printing technology has long been limited to laser and traditional inkjet systems, but the Machjet ushers in a totally new world of printing technology which makes it possible to deliver high-quality color printing at unbelievable speeds and quality. Thanks to Memjet’s ground-breaking, high-density page-wide printheads and components, these will allow enable printers to operate twice as fast while costing half of what it normally does to run traditional color office printers (on average, of course).

The Machjet will deliver high-quality color outputs in 1600 x 800 dpi resolution at 60 pages per minute, and thanks to Memjet’s proprietary Page Straight Array (PSA) Technology, it will manage to cram in over 70,000 ink nozzles on a single printhead — that makes it 17 times more the nozzle density compared to traditional printheads, which means the Machjet can offer over 700 million drops of ink per second on a page.

Printers that are “powered by Memjet” might be super fast, but that doesn’t mean they are going to burn a hole in your pocket because of electricity consumption. No sir, they are also energy efficient and less expensive to operate, consuming a mere 32W of juice when operating which makes it more power efficient compared to other laser printers that are out there in the market. With Machjet’s Hyper Small Drop Technology, operational costs are reduced further, letting the Machjet take advantage of smaller droplets to minimize the amount of ink required to render clean, crisp text and images at high speed.

SoundRacer Ferrari V12 engine

Posted: 21 Jun 2011 09:19 AM PDT

If you feel that your ride lacks enough ‘oomph’ underneath the hood, then you would do well to get a better paying job so that you can afford a faster car, or to just fork out £29.99 for the SoundRacer Ferrari V12 engine. This will definitely make your vehicle sound like an exotic supercar from Italy, although the only person you would impress would be the visually impaired – at least until they sit in it and wonder how come the acceleration is slower than what they expect.

Recorded from an actual V12 Ferrari, all you need to do is plug it into your cigarette lighter socket and you’re good to go. Just select a frequency, turn up your volume and let your speakers do the “talking” as you enjoy those high-quality revs that will send the adrenaline rushing, all without having to burn more fossil fuel than necessary. Just in case you’ve gotten bored of the same old revs, just hook up a compatible device via its 3.5mm audio socket and you can tune in to your favorite tunes.
