Motorola H17txt Bluetooth headset

Posted: 06 Apr 2010 05:10 PM PDT

Motorola does not only make cellphones and smartphones just in case you were wondering and are new to the scene, as they have their fingers dipped in the world of communication devices as well. Their latest device would be the H17txt Bluetooth headset that will offer wireless mobility when communicating with your contacts over a Bluetooth-enabled cellphone. Thanks to MotoSpeak, this Bluetooth headset was specially designed to keep you connected and responsible regardless of whether you have two hands behind the wheel or not, where it was created to optimize the text-to-speech technology. Apart from that, when paired with an application, the H17txt will read text messages (SMS) into the headset in real time, helping you keep your eyes peeled on the road. Apart from that, you can also choose to customize an automated response and automatically enable text-to-speech whenever the headset is turned on.

To take advantage of MotoSpeak, just download the text-to-speech application to their smartphone and you’re good to go. Of course, you need not search for those cracks and warez sites, as it is available from multiple application stores such as the App Store and the Android Market as long as you search for “MotoSpeak.” The application when enabled, will do the above mentioned by automatically enabling you to hear your text messages through your headset. Not only that, other features of the Motorola H17txt Bluetooth headset include :-

  • Easy on: Text messages will automatically be played over your H17txt with MotoSpeak every time your headset is activated.
  • Incoming text message sender ID: Always be in the know about who in your phonebook is trying to text you without having to take your hands off the wheel with sender ID announcements.
  • Auto-response message: Determine if you want to send an automated text message to callers informing them that you are driving and will call back when available or pick a more personalized message to send.
  • Translates 150 text acronyms: Acronyms such as lol, btw and l8r are translated when the text message is read aloud, so you will never miss the meaning of a message.

When connected to any Bluetooth-compatible phone, it will also enable you to hear turn-by-turn directions, where obviously only the driver will be able to hear it, letting the rest of the folks in the car be less irritated by the voice used in turn-by-turn directions. Not only that, you will also be able to benefit from voice prompts that update you on battery level, mute status, and how to connect for the first time amongst others. Expect to see the H17txt with MotoSpeak hit the US from this month onwards from Verizon Wireless Communications stores.

Nexaira Wireless 3G/4G SOHO router

Posted: 06 Apr 2010 05:02 PM PDT

Having a wireless router is something that most homes and offices take for granted these days – you are considered to be archaic if you still need to tether your machine to a router or modem, no? Nice to see that most folks have already taken the plunge when it comes to wireless connectivity in their devices, and Nexaira Wireless is well poised to ride on this wave with their latest product – the Nexaira Wireless 3G/4G SOHO router. Targeting a SOHO market (that’s small office/home office for the uninitiated), this SOHO router is not only fast but secure, offering instant Wi-Fi service to a home or office without having to run data cabling or subscribe to a wireline service. Wherever you are, as long as there is adequate cellular coverage by any wireless carrier in North America, you will be able to make that connection to the Internet to update your Facebook status and check email amongst a zillion other stuff.

Among the features of the Nexaira Wireless 3G/4G SOHO router would be an automated set-up with the intuitive user friendly i3 GUI and desktop gadget, multiple user access to the Internet, 300 Mbps speeds with 802.11n 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi service and a superior 3G/4G connection than using a data card on a laptop computer. It will arrive in the market later this year for $99.95. Just to get a better idea on its connectivity capability, the Nexaira Wireless 3G/4G SOHO router is able to seamlessly hook up to HSPA and HSPA + networks from AT&T, Bell, Rogers, Telus and T-Mobile and EVDO RevA networks from Sprint and Verizon, as well 4G WiMAX from Clear. Now that’s a pretty comprehensive list, don’t you think?

You will no longer need to be a slave to the limitations of installation times, service area coverage or repair time of traditional wireline networks thanks to the new Nexaira Wireless 3G/4G SOHO router. After all, it is simple enough to use without requiring any technical support, especially when installation is a snap.

Sensation Lounge chair

Posted: 06 Apr 2010 04:34 PM PDT

Designer Alexander Christoff is starting to develop a penchant for making these strange chairs. He once designed a chair that is an homage to Ferrari, and it was fire-engine red with an odd footrest.

This Sensation Lounge Chair, as it is called, is apparently the ultimate for relaxation. Not only can the user recline nicely, but there is a screen there for watching anything you want to watch. If you are going to relax, I would suggest watching something like Planet Earth.

Some of you might notice that the screen on this guy seems a little…small, and I would agree with them. It doesn’t look any more than 12 inches along its diagonal. Isn’t there any way to make it so a big-screen can be mounted there or something? Man, that would be the way to watch a movie.

I’m not certain if Alexander Christoff wants to market this chair, or what his plan is, but it doesn’t look inexpensive. You know what it reminds me of? A reclining chair on the edge of some pool in the future. Or one of those sixties or seventies science fiction films where they were trying to look futuristic, and it just ends up looking silly by today’s standards. Like The Jetsons, for example.

Send a hug online to your children with the Huggy Pajama

Posted: 06 Apr 2010 04:09 PM PDT

The outfit that the person in this photo is wearing reminds me of a coat my sister to wear when she was a kid, but this is actually pajama outfit.

It is called the Huggy Pajama, and it is an application of technology that I’m not certain I like. You see, the Huggy Pajama is connected to the Internet, presumably wirelessly, and the parent of the child, or friend, or whoever can send hugs to the pajama.

That’s right, you can actually send a hug through the Internet. I have no idea what sort of sensors are in the Huggy Pajama to simulate the feeling of an embrace, but the person on the other end is supposed to hug a small mobile doll with an embedded pressure sensing unit.

I mentioned earlier that this is technology that I don’t really like, and I will tell you my reason. As a parent, I have found that there is nothing as wonderful as a hug of a young child. Whenever my children hug stuffed animals, they put their whole selves into it, their heart as well as their arms. It is the best expression of love that there is.

The idea that we have a device that can hug over a distance shows that we need such a device. My advice is: stay at home as often as you can, and give your kids some authentic hugs. You’ll be glad that you did.

Land Peel furniture lets a room become anything it needs to be

Posted: 06 Apr 2010 03:48 PM PDT

I found this concept technology yesterday, and it is appropriately called the Land Peel. I suppose Floor Peel might be a better name, because this is what the user is doing.

As you can see from the picture, part of the floor can “peel up” and essentially make a convenient desk. Granted, it is a desk that you have to cross your legs under in order to make them fit, but a cool desk nonetheless. You will note the folding up of the “chair”, which is nothing more than something to rest your back on.

You will also note that the mini-desk has a green frame, and the mini-chair has a red one. I’m guessing that each color is some chromatic code for a different function. I wonder what the blue and yellow ones can peel up to.

In other words, what you have is some sort of room that would look empty at first sight, but the floors could be folded like origami to become any room that it needs to be: bedroom, dining room, study, etc. Perhaps this could be any college student’s standard dorm room.

It was designed by Shin Yamashita, a student at the Kyoto Institute of Technology. Since this is still a concept, it will be a while until you will come over to a house who has this stuff. Too bad.

aTable features hollow legs

Posted: 06 Apr 2010 12:00 PM PDT

Any furniture that helps to organize those unruly cables is worth looking over.  This simplistic looking desk would allow for you to appear clutter free.  Even though deep down in those table legs it conceals a mess of cords that used to constantly be in your way.  The aTable even keeps its name nice and simple.  Now if only all things could be this minimal and clean.

As you can probably tell from the picture, each of the legs has an escape hole at the bottom.  Then at the top there’s a hole to feed your cords down to the outlets that you’re using.  Sure, it doesn’t have any drawer storage or a keyboard drawer, but if you’re just working on your laptop, it’d work great.  The table is made out of glass-reinforced plastic to make it extra stiff.  The legs themselves are actually removable.  This was designed by Beautus Kopp, who is a graduate of the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design.  Right now the table is just a concept design and not actually up for sale.

World’s Most Expensive Computer Mouse

Posted: 06 Apr 2010 11:01 AM PDT

It’s a trying task to find something for your lovable computer geek significant other.  Especially when they say they want something shiny and outlandishly expensive.  Luckily, there is the World’s Most Expensive Computer Mouse.  Yes, that is the mouse’s literal product name.  Having looked at the price, the product name is definitely right on the money.

The mouse is advertised as the perfect 60th wedding anniversary gift since traditionally speaking that anniversary calls for a diamond.  It also works for the 50th, since that one is gold.  These computer accessories come in yellow, red or white gold with black or white trim.  You can design your own or pick up the Diamond Flower or Scattered Diamond designs.  To purchase your very own it’ll cost you £16,200.00 or $26,730, but hey, diamonds are forever.  Of course it only takes a month for gadgets to become outdated, but at least the shiny stuff is forever.

Transcend JetFlash 500 retractable USB flash drive

Posted: 05 Apr 2010 05:57 PM PDT

By now we have plenty of USB flash drives in our homes, and among those how many do we actually use? After all, I am pretty sure that we would have come across many a situation where we received free USB flash drives from roadshows or companies, only to toss them into a box for “later use”. Most of us probably have a primary and secondary USB flash drive which we make use of most of the time, and out of these, how many caps have we lost? You can be honest – when we’re in a rush or busy transferring some data which is deemed as private by others, our train of thought can easily be distracted only for us to leave the flash drive cap behind. Transcend prevents this from happening through a very simple solution (which has been done before, mind you) – doing away with the need for a USB flash drive cap! Their latest iteration would be the Transcend JetFlash 500 retractable USB flash drive.

This stylish JetFlash 500 will come with a smooth sliding USB connector that will effortlessly extend and retract with but a simple flick of the thumb, and I believe that those who have Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD) might find flicking the USB connector in and out frequently – hmmm, they’d make pretty good testers for the durability of the slider, don’t you think so? Nice to know that Transcend isn’t boring as well, offering the JetFlash 500 in various colors and capacity options, where the final product comes in a smooth contoured shape that makes it suitable as a portable storage solution for users with busy and active lifestyles.

As we all know, flash memory does have a lifespan and won’t be able to last forever, but good thing Transcend has the wisdom to know that even the most careful computer user will slip up sometimes, and dropping a USB flash drive could introduce some shock to the data within, and we wouldn’t want whatever precious material inside to end up as corrupted and unreadable now, would we? That is why the JetFlash 500 is solidly built to withstand a few bumps and falls, giving you peace of mind while knowing that its USB connector will also never become loose, fall out, or accidentally slip back into the drive when being plugged into a computer. All owners of the JetFlash 500 can download and install Transcend's free JetFlash Elite data management tools onto the JetFlash drive. It will come in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities.

Apple moves over 300,000 iPads in the US

Posted: 05 Apr 2010 05:41 PM PDT

We knew that the Apple iPad was going to be a hit, and the final sales figures proved it – Apple announced that the fruity company moved over 300,000 iPads in the US alone as of midnight last Saturday. Among these include deliveries of pre-ordered iPads to customers, deliveries to channel partners and sales at Apple Retail Stores. Apart from that, Apple also announced that over one million apps were downloaded by iPad users from Apple’s App Store, and there were plenty of voracious readers among them as well – we’re talking about over 250,000 ebooks being purchased from its iBookstore during the first day. Were you one of the lucky ones to pick up an iPad during launch day, or do you think this is just a bunch of hyperbole?
