SteelSeries Shift Gaming Keyboard

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 06:30 AM PST

I will be honest with you when I say that we have reported on the SteelSeries Shift before. Since I have received the Siberia V2, the company was nice enough to send over the Shift.

I have reviewed a similar keyboard years ago with the Zboard, and the Shift has a removable keyboard that can be switched out for games like World of Warcraft or AION. These keyboards fold up when not in use, and are easily switchable.

The Shift also has a few ports. There are two gold plated microphone-in and audio-out ports, as well as two USB 2.0 ports. By the way, you have to plug in the Shift to your laptop or desktop into the headphone and microphone ports, and you need to plug in two USB plugs to get the two USB ports on the keyboard to work.

Another feature is the easy to record macros. You know those moves in MMO games that require several buttons to accomplish? Imagine being able to do that move with one button. Now imagine having seven more buttons for your macros.

By the way, the Shift also has some easy-to-access media keys on the side. Other features include adjustable rubberized feet for 3 different height settings as well as Fine-Tuned Heat Spots.

You should be able to get the Shift from the SteelSeries site for about $99.99. The shiftable keyboards will cost about $24.99.

Logitech Mini Boombox: Big noise, small size

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 06:15 AM PST

I just finished reviewing Logitech’s Wireless Boombox for the iPad, and I am grateful that the company was also willing to send me the Mini Boombox that was recently unveiled.

The company says that the Mini Boombox can “unchain your music”, and I will have to agree. It is quite easy to pair with a smartphone, and I was listening to my music without headphones in seconds.

The sound from the thing is pretty amazing for something disproportionate to its size, and my first listen provoked me to turn down the volume right away. The buttons on the top are backlit touch panel which allow them to be used in the dark as well as the light.

My only complaint is that the official site says that you can take it with you, and it shows it being put in the side pocket of a purse. It actually is a few inches thick on either side, so you will need a thick pocket.

As for the battery life, it is good for about 10 hours worth of music. Of course, you might not want to just listen to music, and this particular device is good for taking phone calls or the audio portion of video chats.

You should be able to get the Logitech Mini Boombox for about $99.99 on the official website.

SteelSeries Siberia V2 Gaming Headset

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 06:00 AM PST

We have reviewed a lot of quality gaming headsets here at coolest-gadgets, and Steel Series puts out quite a lot of quality gaming accessories. I got a chance to try out the Siberia, version 2, or Siberia V2.

The sound of the headphones are excellent, with 50mm drivers for some terrific tones and deep bass beats. This is because of the passive noise reduction with its leather padded cushions made for sound dampening. One of the best features of the Siberia V2 is the pull-out microphone, and it doesn’t just pull out like a radio antenna. No, this can pull out, and bend at angles. This might be worth buying just for that.

Another feature that I really liked was the adjustable headband for a very comfortable fit. A lot of these padded headphones tend to be burdensome on the head and ears after a few hours, but these feel very natural. I also liked the in-line volume control located on the headset cord, and this control has a large switch for turning the microphone on and off.

You should be able to purchase the Siberia V2 at the Steel Series site for about $89.99. They come in many colors including black, orange, green, red, white, and blue. There is also a special black and gold edition for about $99.99.

Subzero Warm Breath Balaclava

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 04:30 AM PST

I don’t know about you, but seeing this $79.95 Subzero Warm Breath Balaclava just makes me want to shout, “Mortal Kombatttt!!!” and firing up the iconic soundtrack while I start practising my Fatality moves as Subzero, the undead ninja in the beat ‘em up. Don a yellow suit and you have the license to “Get over here!”, while putting on a green suit and you end up being another speechless ninja known as Reptile. Too bad the Subzero Warm Breath Balaclava has no references to the classic violent video game, but rather, it is meant to facilitate comfortable breathing by humidifying and warming up the winter air.

A special ventilation chamber will sit within the integrated mask, letting you inhale full, unhindered breaths while trapping a small amount of heated, humid exhalation. As a result, you will be able to enjoy a comfortable, fully oxygenated “microclimate” inside the mask, where it will boast humidity of up to 80% higher as well as temperatures up to 60° F warmer compared to the chilly air on the outside. One size fits all, or so the product description says – hopefully that’s true for Bruce Banner.

iControl Ferrari costs a fraction of the real deal

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 04:00 AM PST

I know, owning a Ferrari probably ranks tops on the list of any boy’s wish list, after all, who would not want to have one of these rare Italian exotics, with so many ponies available at the tap of your foot, that you can smoke just about any car at the next red light? Unfortunately, the world does not work in a way where it panders to our every whim and fancy, and most of us will probably be unable to afford one of these mean machines – unless, of course, it has been steeply discounted to the point of the £29.99 iControl Ferrari. This particular model has been scaled down by 50 times, and is an RC car with a difference – it will use your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad as the remote control of choice thanks to an included dongle so that you can ‘drive’ your Enzo around in style.

At least the app is free, and if you happen to use an iPhone, your device will rumble as though you were starting the engine when you fire it up. The array of controls on your touchscreen display are said to be responsive enough for a fun time with this AAA-battery powered devices. Tilt your iPhone, and this sleek little sports car will turn in the corresponding direction as well. At least there is no speeding ticket to pick up with this puppy…
