Crowd Buster fights the mob with pepper spray

Posted: 02 Sep 2011 08:30 AM PDT

This particular pack reminds me of the instrument that the Ghostbusters use to distribute slime. That was in Ghostbusters II, in case you don’t remember it.

In the case of this “Crowd Buster” (which is its actual name) it puts out some serious negative slime in the form of pepper spray. It can do this in mist mode or pellet fire, and it is sure to make a mob cease and desist.

As an added bonus, the Crowd Buster can dispense a dye that can stick for up to three weeks. This way, the cops can identify whoever is hit by the Crowd Buster after the mob is done. Yes, this comes in handy for all sorts of crowd busting, before and after.

This is actually not a one-man device. You will need someone holding the pack, and another holding the gun. I suppose that smaller versions could be a one-man job.

This is not something that I want to be on the other side of, as it looks like it could send me home, seriously crying to mother. I hope that no one really has to actually use this in any given situation, but I suppose there are situations where Crowd Busters are really needed.

Samsung MV800 Flipscreen Camera

Posted: 02 Sep 2011 08:15 AM PDT

One of the problems with reporting on cameras is that they are all very much alike. Once I report on the Megapixels and memory, I then list off a bunch of the usual features.

Samsung’s MV800 Point and Shoot (P&S) camera has one incredibly interesting feature that I have never seen before. It has a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen display that can be flipped 180 degrees. This comes in handy for self-shots and low-angles shots, and for when you want to prop it up.

I suppose that you can also flip the screen over and view the contents of the microSD/SDHC card. That’s right, it takes the microSD instead of the usual SD. That’s another unique feature that will probably become more common, if it isn’t already on P & S cameras.

Well, we might as well describe the usual features. It has a 5X optical zoom and 16.1 Megapixels. It also has some interesting software inside for filters, panoramas, photo touch-ups, effects, plus in-camera cropping.

There is no word of when this camera is going to be launched, but it would be wise of Mr. Samsung to get this out before the holidays. The price is about $279.99, and I’m not certain where it will be available.

World’s Largest Solar-Powered Boat on a World Tour

Posted: 02 Sep 2011 08:00 AM PDT

I really like the look of PlanetSolar’s TURANOR. Not only does it look like a spaceship on water, but it is very eco-friendly as well.

As you might have guessed, the boat is covered with solar panels, about 5,380 square feet worth. In case you are wondering, the solar panels aren’t as fragile as they look. There are pictures from my Source of people walking on it.

These solar panels power two electric motors that can reach a speed of 15 miles an hour. Yes, that is pretty slow, and the TURANOR is on a long world tour.

The purpose of this tour is to advance scientific research in the field of renewable energy, and to show that current technologies aimed at improving energy efficiency are reliable and effective.

The name TURANOR comes from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and it means “victory” and “the power of the sun”. It is a fitting name, as this 101 foot long and 49 foot wide craft can go for three days without the sun thanks to its giant lithium-ion battery.

So why put a huge solar-powered boat out on the waters? Perhaps we looking at a world where big cruise ships or even aircraft carriers are all solar powered. Isn’t this the future that we want?

When it comes to Bluetooth headsets, you can’t go wrong with Jabra – after all, the company has long worked on Bluetooth devices ever since the technology was included in cell phones all those years ago. Well, Jabra perceives that there is a need to fill up a void in the market where wireless headsets that target the active have less than the usual number of suspects.

Having said that, Jabra has decided to expand their Sports portfolio with a couple more systems – and we’re talking about models that were specially designed for active use, boasting a new corded wearing style – known as the SPORT and SPORT-CORDED. Sony Reader Wi-Fi announced

Posted: 02 Sep 2011 06:00 AM PDT

Sony has just announced their latest entry into the world of e-book readers, what with the Sony Reader Wi-Fi – and if you are a natural fan of model numbers, you can always call it the PRS-T1. This is touted to be the lightest touch screen 6″ eReader device in the market and to date, where it claims to deliver the most natural and immersive reading experience yet for book lovers in a digital format, of course.

The new Reader Wi-Fi will continue where last year’s line left off, where it is smaller and lighter now without sacrificing on performance as new and enhanced features have been incorporated. Tipping the scales at less than 6 ounces, this particular Sony Reader Wi-Fi will come with a 6″ E-Ink Pearl V220 touch screen display, where it is far smaller than your average paperback book so that it can fit into a bag or pocket in a jiffy. To conform to Sony’s signature device releases, this one too, will come in more than one color – black, red or white.

Sony’s Reader Wi-Fi also achieves another first by being the first model that delivers wireless connectivity to the public library system in both the US and Canada over a dedicated icon on the device that enables easy and convenient borrowing of free e-books courtesy of a valid library card. Apart from that, you are able to open up your mind to more than 2.5 million titles via a Wi-Fi connection from the Reader Store, where those who want to build up their digital book collection can do so by purchasing additional copies from a wide range of bookstores and other websites.

The Reader Wi-Fi will also sport a glare-free Clear Dual Touch screen display with E-Ink Pearl electronic paper technology, delivering a high contrast image which would be easy on the eyes, even when you are reading under direct sunlight for hours on end. Want to flip the page? That’s easily done by swiping your finger, and you can zoom in on the text through the now standard pinching gesture.

Expect the Sony Reader Wi-Fi to arrive sometime next month for around $149.

Boba Fett LEGO Minifigure Alarm Clock

Posted: 02 Sep 2011 05:30 AM PDT

We looked at Captain Rex making his debut as an alarm clock in the form of a LEGO minifigure, and here we have someone from the baddies group – Boba Fett, all decked out in LEGO minifigure glory as well. This £26.49 purchase will feature the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunter (during the time of Episode V, of course), where this LCD alarm clock is an officially licensed product for you to contribute your hard earned money to George Lucas’ moneybags.

Heck, this tie up with LEGO has resulted in a cute looking alarm clock that boasts of a no-nonsense performance to help you get out of bed during those nice and cool mornings where you just want to pull the sheets over your head and get slightly more than forty winks. Nice to know that the all important snooze function has been thrown into the mix alongside a backlight to help you tell the time in the dark – both of which are activated simply by pushing his helmeted head down.

Heck, you can also adjust Boba’s hands and legs to strike the perfect wake up pose.

R/C Air Swimmers Flying Sea Life

Posted: 02 Sep 2011 05:00 AM PDT

Sharks belong in the water, don’t they? And they need to continue swimming in order to stay alive, even when they’re asleep. Well, most of us know that, but to have a shark “swim” in the air? That certainly sounds out of whack, but this is what ThinkGeek offers with the $39.99 R/C Air Swimmers Flying Sea Life. Yes sir, made out of durable, high-quality nylon material, this unique piece of fun equipment can remain inflated for weeks while it patrols the airspace in your home for hours on end with enough juice remaining within.

The AirSwimmers RC flying sea creatures will also come in a clownfish format for a less threatening experience, but either way, it is still a wonder to look at. All you need to do is fill up the AirSwimmer with enough helium, and it will get to work straight away – you might take some time to master the controls in order to have it go up, down, and even 360 degrees around. With a working range of 40 feet, I suspect you will have hours of fun on just four AAA batteries with the R/C Air Swimmers Flying Sea Life.
