Do you want your Baby to Look like a Celebrity?

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 09:11 AM PDT

There really is no good reason to feel uncomfortable engaging in a conversation about a sperm bank. There are a number of perfectly understandable reasons to utilize the services of such a place, and I do believe that people should be able to have children if they want to, and its certainly none of my business how they go about it. There isn’t too much new in the sperm business these day, but there is something you may not have heard about…

California Cryobank, a reproductive tissue service, is offering a Donor look-a-like program, offering you the subjective input of the Cryobanks’s employees who let perspective parents choose a baby-daddy who they think looks like your favorite star. So if you want a “baby like Beckham” this may be the place for you. If a donor looks like more than one famous person, they will list them all for you, making it easier for you to visualize what your offspring may ultimately look like.

Curiosity got the best of me, and of course I had to take a look, all donors are listed with height, eye, and hair color information and, if applicable, their celebrity look-a-likes. Right off the bat I found a nice Ben Affleck and a rather short Derek Jeter. It seems as though there are limitless pages of donors to choose from and different ways to list them, including by education level, religion or ancestry, heck finding a dad is a lot easier than finding a husband!

Door to door delivery of this specialty sperm starts at around 455 bucks, but the price can quickly multiply when you consider the various add-on opportunities, including facial feature reports, medical histories, childhood photographs or even a handwriting analysis all compiled on your intended insta-dad. I’m not sure if features are more important than say, IQ… but I suppose careful screening and healthy babies should be the ultimate goal. How do you feel about making a celebrity baby.. you know, without the actual celebrity?

R2-D2 Mug with Lid

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 08:30 AM PDT

You have just got to love Firebox’s tagline for the £14.99 R2-D2 Mug with Lid which goes like this, “I'm thirsty R2, you're my only hope.” I am quite sure that there are numerous mugs out there in the pantry cabinet, but how many of them are worth having a look at considering the coolness factor of Star Wars is far higher than that of a standard issue porcelain mug? Even if you are not a Star Wars fan, I am quite sure that this particular mug looks good on your desk – after all, who can resist such a cute looking drinking apparatus?

The R2-D2 Mug with Lid’s function is far more limited than his usual repertoire of tricks, as he does not pilot any starships, nor does he carry any secret Imperial documents for the Rebel Alliance to plot their next move – no sir, what he does this time around is plain and simple, to let you sip your favorite beverage (hot or cold, it does not matter as he is made out of some pretty tough stuff) without missing a beat. Made out of high-quality ceramics with sculpted detail and colored glazing, his head functions as a removable lid.

iHome iP76 LED color changing speaker tower

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 08:00 AM PDT

There are speakers, and then to jazz things up a bit in your humble abode, there are speaker towers. The iHome iP76 can be said to reside in the latter category, sporting a full name of the iHome iP76 LED color changing speaker tower. Well, what makes this speaker tower from iHome so different from the rest that you might want to check it out for yourself? For starters, the name itself gives the game away – you are able to experience a snazzy light show as you listen to your favorite tunes being played back over this particular speaker.

Not only does the light show dazzle the eyes, your ears, too, will be treated to quality audio although I would say this particular model will target the average home user and not an audiophile, who will surely have a thing or two (or perhaps far more) to criticize about. Those who want to spruce up your pad will certainly be able to do well with the iHome iP76 LED color changing speaker tower. After all, it does come with Bluetooth connectivity so that there will be far less cables for you to worry about in your home.

Standing proud at three feet tall, this décor-enhancing showpiece will come with 16 multi-color LED clusters which are more than capable of churning out exciting light effects while delivering smooth sounds thanks to the quartet of high performance speakers. Not only that, as mentioned earlier, the untethered audio experience will let you live a life of freedom thanks to Bluetooth connectivity.

Evan Stein, Director of Marketing, iHome, said, "With its unique design and color-changing capabilities, the iP76 is both a visual and audio delight that is as much fun to look at as it is to listen to. Most importantly, the speaker tower produces vibrant audio for your listening pleasure."

The iP76 LED Color Changing Tower Bluetooth Stereo Speaker System is capable of turning any living room into a private disco alcove, thanks to its vibrant colors and streaming music from Bluetooth-enabled devices. It will be able to juice up power hungry iPhones and iPods when docked, and is also more than capable of sending video content from your device to your TV courtesy of its integrated component video outputs. The asking price for this puppy? $199.99. Too bad it isn’t even listed on the company page just yet.

LG has new IPS monitors in tow

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 07:30 AM PDT

LG is not a company that shies away from the limelight, considering how they have been working hard to make a name for themselves in the world of consumer electronics and have largely succeeded, although their line of smartphones do leave something to be desired. Well, today we will not touch on yet another Android-powered smartphone by LG, but rather, will take a look at new IPS monitors from the South Korean company that boasts of Cinema Screen design alongside MHL connectivity.

The IPS7 Series are said to deliver superb colors that are so close to real life, and when you couple that with a stylish design and smarter connectivity options, most folks would say that this is capable of delivering the ultimate entertainment experience which does not tax your eyes too much – although I am quite sure that your bank account is going to take quite a hit in the process. Let us learn more about what the new LG IPS monitors are able to deliver right after the jump.

First launching in the Asian markets of Korea and China (Hong Kong included), the IPS7 series will feature LG's very own CINEMA SCREEN Design, offering a near invisible bezel design for an unobstructed entertainment experience and a sophisticated, modern appearance. Not only that, you get lifelike color consistency and representation across a wider viewing angle, while the Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) makes it a snap to hook up external devices such as smartphones to deliver an immersive viewing on a larger screen.

The bezel measures just 1.2mm thin, and the overall depth of LG's IPS7 monitors has also gone to the fat house, experiencing a reduction to a mere 14.1mm. As for the streamlined metallic stand, it creates an aesthetically sharp profile while the cable management feature further enhances the visual appeal.

You can choose from 23″ or 27″ models, where either one come with 1080p resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 250 nits of brightness, and 5ms of response time. Any takers?

Dash – Your new Smartphone Car Stereo

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 07:26 AM PDT

When I’m in the car I never know what to do with my phone, if it’s in my purse I may not find it again for days, I stick it in the cup holder and then I have no place for a drink. Recently I found a way to wedge it in the door handle, it leaves it nicely accessible, but I have had a few incidents where someone opened the door unexpectedly from the outside… so it’s not really the solution I had hoped for, and I’m not getting the most out of my phone.

Here’s an idea that uses your smartphone as the main part of your car’s stereo, I’d like you to meet the Dash. The idea behind the Dash is that it built to fit in the space your boring old stereo used to be, and allows your smartphone to connect and interact with the Dash stereo. Allowing you to take advantage of all the cool features your phone has to offer, safely and easily in your car. Music, navigation and phone calls are all within reach. Not to mention all the other road-friendly apps that can make your drive time more pleasant.

So whether you want to voice text, or check the weather, be alerted to upcoming speed traps or just listen to your favorite local radio station your smartphone will be there for you, mounted safely and securely in your car using special neodymium magnets, and don’t worry, the Dash is charging your phone for you too. The Dash is currently available for pre-order with an iPhone 3GS, 4/4S or iPod Touch Faceplate, but rest assured it will be compatible with most smartphones as the different faceplates become available. Pre-order prices starting at 349 bucks at devium.com.

8-Bit Sunglasses make you look cooler than ever before

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Get some geek cred this summer with a pair of the $7.99 8-Bit Sunglasses from Thinkgeek – I do not think that you will regret it. It does not matter if you have an afro, sport a punk hairstyle, are clean shaven, or have just a normal head of hair, you will still look great with the 8-Bit Sunglasses on your face. After all, it will not only protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun by delivering 100% UV protection, it will also let you live out the 8-bit lifestyle in real life.

Those who have spent plenty of time with Minecraft will also be able to appreciate all the blocky pixels on the outside of this pair of sunglasses, although the effect of it is in the opposite – you will be able to see in crystal clear clarity after all those harmful UV rays have been filtered out. I wonder if the Mario Bros. would have a far better success rate (or at least an easier task) if they were to don this in their past efforts to save the Princess from Bowser’s scaly fingers…
