mophie makes Juice Pack Powerstation available

Posted: 15 Sep 2010 05:57 PM PDT

mophie has marked yet another entry into the world of iPad accessories with their latest Juice Pack Powerstation. Basically, this is the third quick charge external battery which will form part of the family of its new Juice Pack Universal range. While the iPad itself already has some pretty long lasting battery life going for it, you can never tell when you might actually need additional juice on-the-go, and the Juice Pack Powerstation is here to help. Spedically designed to deliver a portable power solution to Apple device users who are always out and about, this is the most powerful of the trio, bringing up to 2.1 amps of charging output with a 3600 mAh capacity. Heck, with that specifications, it might even be one of the most powerful external power sources for the iPad on the market.

The Juice Pack Powerstation does not only deliver super-high output charging, it does so without additional bulk, and will also play nice with most of the other commercially available USB devices worldwide, and the iDevices family is no exception. You can now go for days without having to look for a power outlet, where its lightweight and portable design allows you to tote it around without causing any strain on your shoulders. Interestingly enough, the advanced battery cell within the Juice Pack Powerstation is smart enough to switch between desired mAh charge, including 500 mAh, 1A and 2.1A, automatically, and there is also a stand-by toggle switch to make sure no drainage occurs whenever the powerstation is not in use.

If you’re interested in bringing this puppy home, it can be yours for $99.95 a pop over at Apple stores or directly from mophie’s website itself. There is a 6 light LED battery status indicator that lets you know just how much power or a charge it carries within, and the built-in function of an extremely bright flashlight makes this a prime candidate to be carried around during your camping trips.

Dog Poop Powered Park Lamp

Posted: 15 Sep 2010 02:00 PM PDT

Lamps in parks need something to keep them powered and that means the city is taking care of that bill and burning up precious energy all so you can have a midnight stroll.  Well now your freeloading pooch can do its part to make your park a little more environmentally friendly.  The Park Spark is a system that uses your dog poop to power the lights in the park.

This is already in use in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  It works by you picking up your poop with the usual biodegradable bag and then you put the poop in a tube within the Park Spark.  You then turn the crank and it’ll turn that poop into methane gases.  Those gases then rise up and combust.  Hopefully more parks will start using this method to keep frequent dog lover parks up and going.

Spink Cup Holder protects your computer from spills

Posted: 15 Sep 2010 01:30 PM PDT

Whenever you’re really into what you’re doing, it seems like that’s the moment you forget about that hot cup of coffee that’s conveniently placed just a little too close to an elbow.  Of course this always happens around sensitive material like important paperwork and electronics.  If you were to pick up Spink it’ll keep your drinks from spilling when you happen to knock into them.

This is probably the most simple yet brilliant device.  You already use cup holders in your car, so you might as well have one for your desk as well.  This allows for your glass or coffee cup to just slip inside.  Then underneath is a strong lever-powered suction that won’t let the holder be tipped over.  With Spink you can not only choose between red, black or white, but you can also customize it by slipping in a photograph.  You can purchase one of these for $19.95 online or find a store that sells Dreamfarm products.

Speedo Aquashot Waterproof Camera

Posted: 15 Sep 2010 12:18 PM PDT

I currently own 2 digital cameras, but I’m dying for a 3rd to add to the collection.  It’d just be so nice to have a camera that can handle going anywhere that I can.  Frankly, I really shouldn’t have fragile devices on me most of the time, because I tend to be rough on them.  Wouldn’t it be nice to go for a swim and be able to take your camera with you?  Well thankfully Speedo has a camera meant just for the water lovers out there.

The camera will take all sorts of pictures as long as you only bring it 3 feet under the water.  If you happen to accidentally let go of it while it’s underwater, this camera won’t sink.  Instead it’ll just float to the surface.  It has a 5 megapixel sensor, 4x digital zoom, 2.4 inch LCD screen, SD memory card slots and to finish it off it’s capable of shooting VGA quality video at 30fps.  These come in green and pink, to pick one up it’ll cost you about $138 through Amazon.

Head To Head Shut The Box Game

Posted: 14 Sep 2010 07:25 PM PDT

Want to have a different take o the classic “Shut the Box” dice throwing game? You can now enjoy this two-player variation known as the Head To Head Shut The Box Game. After all, a classic that has seen action in pubs since the 12th century is now back in action a good 8 centuries later, where players will race with each other to stand up their rows of wooden blocks simply by rolling dice to correspond with the numbers of each block. Whenever all the blocks are standing, players will score a point by rolling a single coin down the groove of the completed “bridge” into their cup. This is done in honor of the Irish folklore from which the game is loosely derived from. Nice to see that this version will enable players to counter their opponents progress, which is not similar at all to other Shut the Box-type games, throwing a monkey wrench into the works since strategy now comes into play instead of just luck. The first person to deposit a quartet into his or her cup will be declared the winner. The Head To Head Shut The Box Game can be yours for $39.95 from Hammacher.

Getting the right start to a day is always important, and the ColorBerry Projection Clock might just be the way to start. After all, there is nothing quite like a bright color to keep your mood up even if you’ve gotten out on the wrong side of your bed. This fun clock will come in a trio of color choices – electric blue, snow white and passionate red, where you can also adjust the angle of projection for the time and alarm status to view it on your wall or ceiling. Nice to know that it is a radio controlled clock, which means you never need to go through the trouble of setting the time as it will automatically update itself at the start and end of British Summer Time. Guess those living Stateside won’t have that much use for this £24.99 purchase then. Other features include a backlight LCD display and the all important snooze feature.

Nikon Coolpix S8100 zooms in on target market

Posted: 14 Sep 2010 06:55 PM PDT

Nikon has further expanded its Coolpix family of digital cameras with another model – we’re talking about the S8100 which will come with a 12.1-megapixel backside illumination CMOS sensor that will deliver enhanced performance and outstanding image quality for high-speed shooting and low-light conditions to its owner. Not only is it fast, responsive and versatile, the Coolpix S8100 will also sport an incredible 10X zoom which is more than capable of shooting fast-moving subjects in still images as well as HD (1080p) movies. High-speed shooting at five full resolution frames at up to 10 frames-per-second (fps), coupled with a pre-shooting cache that records up to two shots before the shutter-release is fully pressed lets you capture all the fast moving action without missing a single moment. Of course, those who deal with even faster subjects can always track them down with the S8100’s Sports Continuous mode as it is capable of recording up to approximately 120 fps – letting you capture the moment confidently without batting an eyelid, all from a non-DSLR or Micro Four Thirds camera.

Nikon has also thrown in their exclusive EXPEED C2 image processing engine which was specially customized to each Coolpix model in order to further drive enhanced performance, outstanding image quality and HD video. Features of the S8100 include a 10x Optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens (30-300mm, 35mm equivalent) that lets you get up close and personal to the action even if you’re recording your memories in full HD resolution. Fancy producing your own home movies? The Coolpix S8100 can do so thanks to its one-touch recording, optical zoom and stereo sound recording alongside a new editing function.

Do you deal with low light conditions aplenty? While compact digital cameras find it difficult to master such environments, the S8100 is better than the rest thanks to its 12.1-megapixel backside illumination CMOS sensor and advanced Night Portrait mode, making it capable of reproducing night scenes and indoor portraits as intended without too much image blur. Out later this month, the Coolpix S8100 will retail for a surprisingly affordable $299.95, coming in black, red and gold colors.

Microsoft LifeCam Studio webcam is ready for prime time

Posted: 14 Sep 2010 06:45 PM PDT

Microsoft’s latest LifeCam Studio webcam is prepared to hit the ground running, especially for those who are involved in long distance relationships as well as folks who grew up in a closely knit family, but simply because of education and work, had to be relocated to a different city or state altogether. Instead of relying on expensive phone calls, why not settle for video calls over the computer? With the advent of VoIP software such as Skype, communications has gotten a whole lot easier, cheaper and convenient. Webcams have been an indispensable tool in this area, and Microsoft hopes to add some polish to this peripheral market with their latest LifeCam Studio webcam which will usher in the High Definition era.

As mentioned earlier, the LifeCam Studio will boast sharp high-definition (HD) video with a true 1080p sensor in order to be the perfect companion to Windows Live Messenger 2011. Not only that, this IM will be able to deliver HD video calling in a 16:9 widescreen format, letting just about everyone be seen easily in the video call, warts and all. After all, it is always nicer to watch a video of someone instead of just hearing the voice, is it not? Its native 1080p sensor is more than twice as large as the 720p HD sensors on the market, allowing more light to come in so that people are able to experience great video in just about any lighting condition. Regardless of whether the sun is streaming in the window or whether the user is lit only by the light from the computer monitor, the LifeCam Studio manages to bring your close and loved ones closer than thought possible (subject to your Internet connection’s speed, of course).

What’s function without form? The LifeCam Studio does not disappoint in terms of looks, where it is the first from the company to feature a tripod thread, making it ideal for recording long video captures from various angles, and not only just sitting in front of the monitor. Other features include a 360-degree view range, an elongated hood and improved Auto Focus. Out later this month, expect to fork out $99.95 for the LifeCam Studio.
