RichardSolo 1800 iPhone Back Up Battery

Whether you own an iPhone or not, most people have heard iPhone owners complain about the battery life.  It’s an extremely common complaint.  Thankfully you can purchase a very small RichardSolo back up battery charger for your iPhone 3G.  It’ll make sure that you’re never stuck with a dead battery, plus it has a couple of small gadgets built into it.

It has a built-in flashlight as well as a laser pointer.  Sure, you can get a flashlight app for your iPhone, but your iPhone doesn’t have a laser pointer.  On it is a retractable USB charger, a dual-port USB charger and even the usual AC wall charger.  It’s capable of reaching a full charger after 5 hours of being plugged in.  There are 3 LED lights that will help you keep track of the charge status of the battery.  If you do plug in the battery, you can also plug your iPhone into the battery and charge them both at the same time.  You can purchase one of these for $69.95.

Ambientech SolarFan and SolarFold

Solar panels being used as back up chargers are nothing new.  However, there are still a great deal of us that don’t have one.  Be it due to lack of funds, not enough justification or even just not finding a design that fits your life.  If you’re still just looking around to find that right fit for your gadget addiction, here are two more solar chargers from Ambientech.  There is the SolarFold, as well as the SolarFan.  Both of which would work just fine to keep all of your small gadgets up and running.

Apparently these are the first of their kind, at least in one aspect.  They are the first to use light-gathering spherical solar cells.  Now whether or not that gives them enough of an edge above the competition to get you to hop up and purchase one is debatable.  At the very least it’s nice to have a couple of different options on how these chargers open up.  The SolarFan comes with a special tripod and both of them come with a carrying case.  They became available last week and cost 22,050 yen or about $244.

BoostApak lets a child carry his or her own booster seat

One of the first thing that any parent learns is how to set up a booster seat, and how to plan when your toddlers have to move from car to car. Unfortunately, most booster seats are hard and bulky, and not easy to shift around at all. I once had to take a rental car back with my son in it, and then had to walk home holding the booster seat. I’ve had more pleasant walks.

Fortunately, BoostApak have not only figured out a way to fold up a booster chair into a convenient backpack, and they have designed it so the child is the beast of burden for it. I suppose that “beast of burden” is a cruel term, but considering that most parents get the job of carrying way too many things, it is good that the BoostApak has made their device to be put on little kids’ backs. There are times when kids actually want to help out their parents, and this would be a good way to get them involved.

The BoostApak is designed to ergonomically fit, or “to protect growing spines and encourage better posture”. It is good for children ages 4 to 11. You should be able to get the BoostApak sometime in April, but there doesn’t seem to be a price. I believe that it’s release will be only in the UK, for now.

Get your Jetpack soon!

it’s been a while since we covered designer Glenn Martin’s super fan pack, which I suppose is, for lack of a better word, a jetpack. Granted, it looks more like the flying pack seen by Quest Aerospace in the first Spider-man movie rather than the jetpack in the Rocketeer, but it can get you off the ground, and quite safely, too.

I believe that I reported last year that these packs were $250,000 each, but that was actually wrong. One of the people on the Martin Jetpack team sent me a comment that the jetpacks were actually 100,000 USD. There is a video after the jump if you want to see more about it.

I believe that only ten jetpacks were produced last year, and I can only imagine that celebrities who have more money than they should could be the only ones that could afford them. A recent update by the Telegraph has revealed that the Martin Aircraft Company is teaming up with an unnamed international aircraft company to make 500 jetpacks a year, for a lower cost of $75,000 each.

Yes, it is a high price, but here’s what you get. First of all, it runs on premium gas, which is much cheaper than jet fuel. Second, it has a 30 mile range at 60 mph with a 8000 foot ceiling. Third, no pilot’s license is required. Fourth, it has a low altitude ballistic parachute, in case you are worried about safety.

So, with 10 jetpacks last year, 500 in the next year, that means Martin has increased its jetpack inventory by 50 times. If it keeps this up, it will take four years to have 3,125,000,000 jet packs, which is enough for about half the planet. So are we looking at an era where everyone will be flying around in a jetpack soon? One can only hope.

O Kitchen designed for portability, small spaces

This particular gadget is known as the O Kitchen, a concept device created by a team of Brazilian designers. I suppose it is named the O Kitchen because it can fold up into a large ball. Yet without a hole in the middle, I wouldn’t call it an “O”. I guess they didn’t like the name “Ball Kitchen”. I’m not even going to allude to what that sounds like.

This O Kitchen was designed to be an easily portable and compact kitchen, presumably made for those who don’t have the space for a big kitchen. Of course, this takes up some space too. Find out what all the numbers mean after the jump.

Each of the number corresponds to a different feature on the O Kitchen: 1) Unified microwave and electric oven; 2) Refrigerator; 3) Dishwasher; 4) Cooktop; 5) Smell and steam exhaust; 6) Lighting; 7) Control panel with internet access, MP3 player function, CD/DVD reader, digital cookbook, kitchen management software, built-in sound system; 8 ) Cabinets; 9) Automatic disposal system; 10) High temperature alert display.

I can see another use for the O Kitchen: outdoors. Why bother taking the grill to a tailgate party when you can just roll the O Kitchen in the back of the pickup truck? Of course, you’re probably going to have to bungee it down somehow so it doesn’t roll out on a sudden stop.

Auto and USBoombox Set

Instead of purchasing a flash drive all by its lonesome, buy a friend for it too.  Now thanks to KidRobot, you can have a friendly companion for your smiling USB drive.  After all, you can’t always be around for the USB drive, eventually you have to sleep or even pay attention to real people.  For those times, you have have Auto.  He’s a little man with a cassette tape for a head.  What more could you ask for in a friend for your flash drive?!

Sure, Auto doesn’t do anything but dutifully listen to the USBoombox yammer on and on about their day.  At least he’ll never repeat what the flash drive tells him.  He’s just not a big talker.  Now the flash drive, he’ll store away 1GB of your data.  All the while looking like nothing more than a Vinyl toy.  USBoombox also comes with his own personal soundtrack that you’ll only know what it is if you purchase him.  You can purchase the set for $60.

Panasonic announces Lumix DMC-G10

While we looked at the Lumix DMC-G2 yesterday, here is yet another fellow Micro Four Thirds camera from the Japanese consumer electronics giant, Panasonic. We’re talking about the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G10 here, where it is touted to be the lightest digital interchangeable lens camera with a viewfinder in the world. Don’t be mistaken though – even though it is the lightest, that doesn’t mean all of its functionalities have been stripped away – no sir, the Lumix DMC-G10 comes packed with a host of advanced digital camera functions that were specially designed to be easy-to-use for users who are new to system cameras. Being compact and portable, the Lumix G10 is also able to record High Definition (HD) video in addition to snapping high-quality still images.

Using a mirrorless structure as part the Micro Four Thirds System standard, the G10 has eliminated a number of components that are found in a conventional interchangeable lens camera, where among these include the mirror box and optical viewfinder unit. Doing away with those allows it to obtain its status as being the lightest system camera in the world, and will feature the newly announced Lumix G VARIO 14-42mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S. lens that boasts a versatile zoom range of 14-42mm (35mm camera equivalent: 28-84mm) that makes it a snap to shoot a wide-range of scenes, from dynamic landscape to portrait.

Other features include iA (Intelligent Auto) mode, MEGA O.I.S. that helps prevent blurring from hand-shake, Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Exposure, Intelligent Scene Selector, recording 1,280 x 720 HD video in Motion JPEG, QVGA, VGA and WVGA formats, an Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.), Face Recognition function, a Live View Finder at 202,000-dot resolution, a 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor and the new Venus Engine HD II. No idea on when it will hit the market, but both pricing and availability details will be unveiled a month before it is ready to arrive in store shelves near you. At least you can have a head start in saving up for one, eh?

Antro unveils new Solo electric hybrid prototype

Maintaining a really huge army could prove to be extremely expensive, as the US found out the hard way. Not only do you have to spend a whole lot of your GDP percentage each year to bolster your defences, there is the issue of making sure the army has enough oil, or black gold, to keep its machineries working and combat-ready at all times. Well, how does that affect ordinary folks like you and I? We too, use vehicles that rely on petrol to keep them going, so what happens when there isn’t enough of that stuff to keep the world moving? Guess it pays to invest in electric vehicles from now on, eh? Antro aims to make a name for itself with the new Solo electric hybrid prototype that ought to hit the market by the time 2012 rolls around, where it will rely on the muscle-power of driver and passengers alongside a hybrid fuel/electric engine.

After all, there seems to be more and more cars making their way to the homes of many people around the world, simply because cars have gotten more affordable while the general standard of living has also increased. This won’t solve the fuel problem as well as environmental issues that come with it, which is why what Antro is doing is extremely commendable. This fuel-efficient three seater will see the driver flanked on either side by a passenger, and all three are required to literally pull their own weight by propelling the Solo Light using pedals in front of them.

This prototype design relies on a light magnesium alloy/carbon fiber frame and body construction, where it features electric assist for when the occupants tire or the driver is alone. Incorporation of photovoltaic cells on the roof itself will power the electric hub motors at each wheel during those sunny days, although this is but in the pipeline at the moment. Its designers are working to install a fuel engine to give a longer range than the 12 miles or so that the electric motors currently provide. Fuel efficiency is stated to be somewhere in the region of 150 miles per gallon, hitting top speeds of a suprisingly fast 87mph.

This is one interesting timepiece that ought to keep your friends admiring at your taste for the finer things in life. Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 announced

Panasonic has just announced the world’s first digital interchangeable lens system camera with a movable LCD in the form of the Lumix DMC-G2, where it enables touch-control for easy snapping of photos. As you can tell by its model number alone, the Lumix DMC-G2 is the successor to the award-winning and revolutionary Lumix G1, which co-incidentally was the first Micro Four Thirds digital camera in the world. The inclusion of an intuitive touch-control capability will elevate the camera’s operability when it comes to shooting photos since you will be able to adjust auto focus (AF) simply by touching the subject on the large 3″ 460,000-dot high-resolution LCD display. Apart from great looking stills, the Lumix G2 is also more than capable of handling 720p High Definition video thanks to the AVCHD Lite format.

Nice to know that the touch-screen operation is not limited to just its photo taking sessions, but can also be used during playback as well. Touching a single thumbnail allows you to view it in full glory, while dragging photos across the screen to browse is a snap, as simple as flipping through the pages of a book although we’re pretty sure that it won’t be as seamless as the experience on an iPhone. Whenever you lock onto a subject, the Lumix G2 will enable AF Tracking while keeping track of the subject as it moves within the frame. Apart from that, touching the screen will also allow you to choose the part and the size of AF area with the 1-area AF. There is also manual focus for those who prefer to gain more control over their image quality.

Other features include a 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor, the high-speed, high-performance Venus Engine HD II, Intelligent Resolution technology, a Dust Reduction System, as well as a bunch of software to help you get started on editing your very own videos. The Panasonic LUMIX G2 will hit the market pretty soon, where it will come in red, blue and black colors.

The entire line will keep up with the times, boasting Blu-ray drives to give you high definition entertainment on the go, nVIDIA GeForce graphics cards that ought to pack more than enough graphical firepower to keep your gaming sessions fun even on a notebook alongside a form factor that is well pleasing on the eyes – we’re talking about Samsung's unique Crystal Wave design.
