I’ve heard of different gadgets that help the DIY challenged find studs in the wall, but this hammer actually has a built-in stud finder that’ll help you to hang up heavy items without causing too much distress to your walls. With the stud sensor you’ll be able to find the stud and then it even has a way to help you mark exactly where you found it. That’ll keep you from worrying about forgetting the exact location.

The Wise Hammer has a little light towards the end of the handle, when it flashes green you’ve found a stud. Then you use the marking nub to mark the wall in the exact location of the stud. There was a time when I really thought these little handheld vacuums were close to pointless. Oddly it’s only after having a house with wood floors in almost every room that I wish I had something like this. Apple Magic Trackpad offers multi-touch gestures for desktop users

Could the introduction of the Apple Magic Trackpad prove to be the death knell of the mouse? We don’t think so, despite the device delivering a similarly intuitive Multi-Touch gesture experience that was previously available on Mac notebook trackpads, to the desktop. Boasting a glass surface that will definitely turn heads, this wireless Magic Trackpad lets you scroll smoothly up and down a page with inertial scrolling, alongside other now familiar gestures such as pinch to zoom in and out, rotating an image using your fingertips, while swiping three fingers will help you flip through a collection of web pages or photos. Samsung jumps aboard the Wi-Fi enabled digital camera bandwagon with yet another model, this time round the ST80 will take center stage. After all, this 14.2-megapixel point-and-shoot camera will also feature Samsung's AllShare (DNLA) connectivity, making it a snap for the ST80 to share images wherever you are sans wires, while keeping family and friends updated on your status from anywhere at any time. Not only does the Samsung ST80 have brains, it also has plenty of brawn, being a sexy little device to boot thanks to its unique styling which makes it stand out from the crowd. Featuring a slim and rounded design, the ST80’s chassis will hold a 3x optical zoom as well as a large, 3″ wide touchscreen display located behind.

FedEX CEO envisions a future of robot planes

I’m sure that most of you have seen all the Fed Ex airplanes at the “Hub” in the film Cast Away. Yes, they really do need all those planes to get all of our stuff to the proper place, and FedEX CEO Fred Smith sees a better way.

His vision is simple: robot planes. Yes, I know, there are many safety concerns with these. What Fred Smith envisions are not these autonomous planes that fly on their own to select locations, but rather an idea where one plane with a real human pilot leads a fleet of robotic planes around the world and makes certain they land properly at their proper destination. In other words, robot planes that fly in V formation like geese, with a human plane in the lead.

Yes, this sounds like something like science fiction, but you know that there are several UAV robot drones that work for the military. However, you should also know that UAVs are not supposed to fly over residential areas. Therefore, FedEx is going to have to get a lot of clearance to pull off something like this.

In a related story, some researchers at Ohio’s Wright-Patterson Air Force Base want to build some robots that can load and unload planes. I suppose that we’re on our way to completely removing the human from the shipping equation. This might not be a good thing in the longrun.

The SMS Slingshot

Let’s just say I handed you this slingshot with the push button numbers on it. What would you think it was supposed to do?

Perhaps it is a new type of cellular phone, where you dial in the number and shoot it at the nearest cell phone tower to get the best possible signal.

The truth is that this slingshot is designed to shoot SMS messages. Granted, you need to have a big screen as well as a projector to see the messages, but the end result is kind of neat. There is a video of it after the jump that I highly recommend watching.

As you can see, the people are here are entering in their message, and then pulling back on the slingshot to “splatter” it on the giant screen. There is a laser in this thing that will keep track of where you are “aiming”, and then you will have some terrific digital graffiti.

This apparently a project by some media group in Berlin, but that is about all my Source has for “why” of this project. Honestly, I would love to see this experiment repeated at Times Square in New York City, but I don’t believe that screen is a projection screen. Maybe something could be worked out.
