Panasonic prices quartet of Lumix digital cameras Posted: 13 Feb 2010 07:26 AM PST Panasonic has just revealed the pricing for four of its Lumix digital cameras, where among them include the LUMIX DMC-TS2, LUMIX DMC-ZS7, LUMIX DMC-ZS5, and LUMIX DMC-ZR3. You won’t be able to get all four models right now since they will only be available come the middle of March 2010, but at least knowing how much it costs allows you to start saving up, even if it is just one month’s notice. First of all, let us take a look at the LUMIX DMC-TS2 before going on to the others after the jump. This is Panasonic’s second-generation rugged digital camera, boasting High Definition video recording capability in AVCHD Lite format, as well as the ability to be carried with you on your snorkeling trips – as long as you do not go below the 10 meter mark. Dropping this puppy is also not a problem, since it is shockproof to approximately 6.6 feet (2m), can work even in -10 degrees Celsius environments, and is dustproof as well. You will also find it equipped with a 28mm wide-angle Leica lens that extends to a 4.6x optical zoom, where the package will retail for $399.95. Other additions in the LUMIX ZS-Series would be the LUMIX DMC-ZS7 and LUMIX DMC-ZS5 digital cameras. Both models sport the signature 25mm ultra-wide-angle Leica lens and a powerful 12x optical zoom, where the LUMIX ZS7 is a 12.1-megapixel shooter that boasts integrated GPS which will photos and videos with latitude and longitude location details. Apart from that, it also does HD video recording in the AVCHD Lite format, retailing for $399.95. As for the LUMIX ZS5, this model ships with a 25mm ultra-wide-angle Leica lens, 12x optical zoom and manual controls. It is $100 cheaper than the DMC-ZS7, where it records HD video in Motion JPG at 30fp. Last but not least would be the LUMIX DMC-ZR3, a fully-featured compact digital camera that does HD video recording as well, featuring a 25mm ultra-wide-angle Leica lens and a 8x optical zoom. It has Panasonic’s Intelligent Zoom on the LUMIX ZR3 that is capable of extending the zoom to an impressive 10x. The LUMIX ZR3 will retail for $299.95 as well. Sony rolls out first Blu-ray 3D-ready player Posted: 13 Feb 2010 07:11 AM PST
It was at the most recent CES where we were treated to a plethora of 3D TVs, including a live 3D performance by Taylor Swift before being whisked away to Los Angeles to attend another awards show. I digress – all the new models will not only be able to handle 3D playback support, but can also instantly stream movies, videos, music and more from Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube, Slacker Internet Radio, Pandora (this Spring), NPR, Sony Pictures, Sony Music, and over 25 total providers through the Sony BRAVIA Internet Video platform as long as you have a decent broadband Internet connection. Another unique selling point of these new models would appeal to iPhone and iPod touch owners, as long as they decide to control the players thanks to a free app called “BD Remote” which is downloadable via the Apple App store. This app will enable the iPhone or iPod touch to double up as a remote control, letting one access the Blu-ray Disc’s details including jacket artwork, actor, and production information from a highly portable device. All of Sony’s new stand-alone Blu-ray Disc players can start-up from power off in about three seconds, which makes it pretty speedy in comparison to its rivals. The Sony BDP-S470 Blu-ray Disc Player ought to hit the market sometime this month for around $200. Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. G-Spot offers unique automotive security Posted: 13 Feb 2010 06:42 AM PST No, this G-Spot isn’t what you think it is, so get your mind out of the gutter already. Basically, it is automotive security offered right at your fingertips, where it prevents your engine from starting until the G-Spot is touched physically simultaneously as the key is held in the start position. Being discreet lessens the chances of it being made known to the rest of the world, especially in the eyes of thieving folks. It is fully encapsulated in epoxy resin, which means the G-Spot is designed to withstand the environmental rigors of working in a vehicle – all within reasonable limits, of course. Being weather- and vibration-resistant, the G-Spot could very well prevent your precious new vehicle from being stolen even if the thief has your keys. Heck, you can even build one for yourself if you like. Introducing Foolish Gadgets because not all gadgets are cool [ G-Spot offers unique automotive security copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
IllumiCharger gives USB power via wall outlet Posted: 13 Feb 2010 06:34 AM PST The IllumiCharger is a light-powered USB wall outlet, where one is able to juice up their USB devices without forking out an additional cent – apart from the initial investment, of course. This device will collect and store energy from interior lighting, offering free charging power to USB devices in the same way that solar-powered classroom calculators work. Sounds like a practical idea, but just how many hours of lighting power does it require before it is able to juice up your iPhone from zero to 100%? It comes with a couple of USB ports, indicated by a blue and purple LED respectively. Charging speed is rated 5v@500mah with a 9,600 mAh capacity. It is currently in running as a semi-finalist in this year’s 2010 Greener Gadgets Design Competition, and we can clearly see why. Gyre Floating City for inhabiting the oceans Posted: 12 Feb 2010 06:10 PM PST Come on, it’s Friday, and you know that you read tech blogs so you can dream about technology like this. This Gyre (that’s what it’s called, but I don’t know how to pronounce it) is one of those concept drawings that will probably never be made into reality. But if the world really is getting as overpopulated at some people are saying, then we will have to live in the ocean. After all, the Earth is seventy percent water, and we’re only living on the thirty percent. This floating city will have just about everything including shops, hotels, restaurants, and other recreation areas. Gyre has the space equivalent of 40 football fields, and can support two thousand inhabitants. Of course, someone will have to power all of these things, right? The plan is to use a combination of solar power, mixed with tidal and wind. Rainwater will have to be collected for water, but I’m not certain what the source of food will be. I wonder what it would be like to live in this city? Well, I suppose that one day we will find out if the ice caps melt and we have to live out in the ocean like in Waterworld. Gyre certainly looks better than any city from that Costner flick.
