The iPhone Lens Dial – for the Serious iPhone 4s Photographer

I admit it, I have a Nikon DSLR and a Sony Cybershot, but somehow I end up taking more pictures on my iPhone. I guess it makes sense since is always available, easy to remember, and takes a pretty good shot, for a phone. But inevitably I will miss quite a few of those perfect pictures, If only I could have been just a little closer… I always walk away kicking myself for not having at least grabbed the Cybershot.

So who could blame me for being intrigued by the iPhone Lens Dial? Not only does this complete 3 lens optical system, made specifically for your iPhone, look cool, but it boasts fisheye, wide angle, and telephoto lens capabilities. The lenses are optical quality coated glass set into an aircraft grade aluminum case with both portrait and landscape tripod mounts.

While the iPhone lens Dial isn’t going to take the place of your DSLR (or your point and shoot for that matter), getting even just a bit closer to your subjects and a few special effects will make iPhone picture taking a whole lot more fun and creative. Simply turn the dial to what you need and it will lock in place, and you can start snapping.

You should be aware that the telephoto lens only provides a 1.5x optical zoom over the unenhanced iPhone lens and it is a bit expensive costing around $249.99. The case, which weighs in at about 10 ounces will also be adding a little bulk to your phone, but better to have and not need, then to need and not have.

QR Codes in Headstones – Dying for Something New?

At one time, it was safe to say that grave markers had remained virtually unchanged for a great many years. They either simply marked an area not to be disturbed or let us know who, and perhaps when the person departed this Earth. I admit that on ocassion, whilst walking through a cemetary I was curious, I would have liked to have known more about the person, or family interred there. I guess I wasn’t the only one.

Well now being dead is no reason to give up your Facebook page. A company in Seattle Washington is creating a brand new type of headstone which connects the living to the dead with QR technology. Their Living Headstone memorials have a digital link embedded in a traditional headstone that takes its users to a Facebook style webpage containing information that you and friends add about your loved ones, such as: an obituary, history, photos, or even comments by friends and relatives, heck, you can even share content via Facebook or Twitter.

These special links can be built into new headstones from the Quiring Company for about 75 bucks or they can be applied as an after market item to existing stones for around $150.00. These codes can also be applied to urns, so cremated dead folks don’t have to miss out on all the fun, and to benches, memorials, and plaques, or anywhere our departed would like to be respectfully remembered.

If you are well off enough to own a home that has a pool in it, then surely you would not cringe at the $249.95 asking price for the Illuminated In Pool Barstool. After all, there is nothing quite like the feeling of sipping on a pina colada with your harem, all dressed up, ready and waiting to have a splashing good time. This is one submersible stool which will illuminate, making it the ideal decorative piece for the definitive swim-up bar experience that one would find in more luxurious 5-star resorts.

There is a poolside remote control which will activate the stool’s built-in, waterproof four-color LED array, ensuring the stool itself is illuminated for optimal nighttime mood lighting. The LEDs can be set to flash or fade depending on your mood and preference, and when you hit the pause button during a fade, it will set the color at a gradient between both hues.

You will not find the stool having a mind of its own and floating off somewhere, since it will anchor itself to the pool’s bottom thanks to a filling of water when submerged, not to mention the inclusion of an integrated sand reservoir. Flyme OS 1.0 arrives for Meizu MX and M9 this June

Have you heard of Meizu before? Well, here is a little history lesson before we continue – Meizu was the first company to come up with their self proclaimed iPhone killer back when Apple first released the iPhone in 2007. Of course, the aesthetics of their smartphone is there for all and sundry to look at, but when you break it down into the overall user experience as well as app ecosystem, there is no way the Meizu offering could live up to expectations as an iPhone killer. Since then, many have come and gone bearing the iPhone killer banner, but none failed to deliver, allowing the iPhone to remain supreme.

Well, this does not mean that Meizu has already thrown in the towel, and they have worked on other smartphones over the years since 2007, with the most recent model being a quad-core processor running in the Meizu MX, which is an update to the previous Meizu MX that had a dual-core processor underneath the hood. As for the operating system of choice, Meizu has decided to stick to Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, except that they have tweaked it until it is known as the Flyme OS. Flyme OS 1.0 will roll out this June for both Meizu MX and M9 smartphones.

Since the Meizu M9 is a relatively older handset, it goes to show just how Meizu is committed towards its old users. Just what does Flyme OS 1.0 deliver? For starters, it is said to offer a powerful range of features and user-friendliness alongside a simple and elegant design, and initial impressions, regardless of whether at home or abroad, have been nothing but high praise. Meizu decided to focus on user experience right from the get go this time around, and I guess it is a way of learning from their past mistakes that great looking hardware alone can only carry a device so far.

You can wait for the OTA (Over The Air) update in June this year, or head on to Meizu’s website for a manual download by then.
