In a galaxy far far away, the coolest cuff links ever!

I’ll admit it, I very rarely need to wear a pair of cufflinks however if I did these would be my cufflinks of choice as they satisfy my Star Wars geekiness and are also functional USB drives, the R2D2 USB Flash Drive Cufflinks.

Each cufflink offers 2GB of USB storage, hidden away in our favourite astromech droid. Not only do they look cool, store your stuff they will also fasten your cuffs together too. The R2D2 Cufflinks are available from cufflinks.com at a somewhat hefty $200 (who said functional fashion was cheap).

Live Shows in Your Home

I live in a small town and I'm getting older. Translation: I get very little live music in my town and the stuff we do get is not in my wheelhouse. There are venues within an hour's drive, but finding artists that are worth the drive, the parking, the cost of drinks and the all around hassle is a tough task. And forget about the days of simply popping in a club to check out a new artist. Those are looooong gone with geographic challenges and responsibilities like kids and daytime jobs. Oh do I miss the days of hanging out in hip clubs and venues!

Thanks to the technology age and demand for great music, ShowGo wants to bring great music right to your desktop, tablet or home theater system. ShowGo partners with big name, iconic venues to stream live shows. Get your favorite computer A/V setup ready to see artists from places like Yoshi's (Oakland and San Francisco), The Mint (Los Angeles), Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley (Seattle), The Blue Note (Milan) and The Hideaway (London). With partners like that you know the quality of performers you will get. This year alone ShowGo has featured artists like Hiroshima, Billy Cobham, Edwin McCain and Kenny G. There are plenty of other acts too – meaning ShowGo also provides a way to hear artists new to your ears. Obviously we at Coolest Gadgets don't often talk about 'cool services', but this new take on live music gives you a chance to exercise your computer and A/V and bring live music right to your home. Want to try it out? There are plenty of good shows coming up. So tune in and experience a new way to enjoy music from afar and discover new artists.

Invisible Speaker

Now you see it, now you don't! This is what the $199.95 Invisible Speaker is all about. Basically, the Invisible Speaker lives up to its name, where this wireless speaker will remain hidden within a lampshade, and it is capable of streaming music from just about any audio source, doing away with the need to hardwire speakers around your home. Setting up the speaker is a snap, as all you need to do is simply screw it into a lamp socket, and audio from a smartphone, a TV, or even a computer can be transmitted to the speaker within a 200 feet radius thanks to the included 2.4GHz base station which is plugged into the above mentioned devices via the included component and 3.5mm cables.

The Invisible Speaker will feature a 25-watt amplifier and 3″ driver that delivers clear, rich sound, and fret not about carrying an additional power plug around the home, as the speaker will be powered by the lamp so that you reduce the amount of wires and clutter in your home. The Invisible Speaker will be accompanied by a harp that accommodates any lampshade, and a bulb up to 75-watts is screwed into the top of the speaker so that the lamp’s full lighting capabilities is maintained. Each purchase will also feature a remote control that enables you to adjust the volume according to your preference, in addition to turning the light bulb on and off.

Marshmallow Bow

If you happen to believe that falling in love would require the oft unseen Cupid sending his arrow right into the heart of your beau, with you as the intended target. Of course, one would think that such an arrow would feel painful when it "pierces" your skin, so why not settle for something that not only does not hurt one bit, but it is delicious to boot? This is where the $24.99 Marshmallow Bow comes in, where you will be able to begin a love affair with marshmallows all over again.

The Marshmallow Bow will be able to carry 25 mini marshmallows that paves the path for rapid action shooting, where it is capable of launching the mini marshmallows up to 30 feet! For most folks, projectile marshmallows are not something that you will be able to see every day. I can imagine a new competition at the office where all of your colleagues are lined up in a row, with mouths wide open, while you attempt to fire marshmallow bits into their mouths from a distance. Of course, you will need to provide your own marshmallows, and make sure the Marshmallow Bow remains nice and clean from roaches whenever it is stored away after use.

Flexible electronic paper could be future of public advertising

Flexible displays are still a novelty at this point in time, as they have yet to be turned into a component in smartphones and tablets that are cost effective to warrant inclusion without causing the customers to balk at the final price tag. Still, it is nice to see companies continue to work on flexible display technology, and hopefully they will stumble upon a low cost yet effective approach sometime down the road. Both Toppan Printing Co Ltd and Plastic Logic Ltd recently showed off a prototype of flexible electronic paper (e-paper) that has a size which is equal to a 42-inch display, using it as a large-size digital sign at Retailtech Japan that happened earlier this month in Tokyo, Japan. This unique flexible e-paper was manufactured by using 16 pieces of 10.7-inch black-and-white e-paper, where the pixel count stood at a respectable 1,280 x 960.

In order to churn out a display device that is worthy of the e-paper, E Ink Holdings Inc’s electrophoretic front plane laminate was summoned to report for duty. As for the front plane laminate, it was driven by an organic TFT substrate which was manufactured at Plastic Logic’s Dresden Plant in Germany. Plastic Logic has long been working on flexible organic TFT substrates for the better part of the last six years, and they successfully established a volume production system a couple of years back, and has since been producing organic TFT-driven displays by using the 3.5th generation-size plastic substrate.

At the R&D facilities, a single piece of 10.7-inch e-paper was used per substrate, although at the manufacturing plant which saw the 3.5th generation-size plastic substrate being used, up to 9 pieces of 10.7-inch e-paper were obtained per substrate, and Plastic Logic figured out that the e-paper will eventually see action on subscreens of smartphones and tablets, as well as the digital signage industry. The ad industry would definitely take a huge leap forward with such e-papers being more affordable.

Rinspeed's MicroMAX could be the new people mover

Frequent travelers ought to be able to identify with the feeling of waiting for a pre-arranged airport shuttle pickup, or even spending their precious time under a bus stop as the airport's very own shuttle bus makes its rounds once every half an hour. Well, Rinspeed could very well relegate all of that to the annals of history, as the Swiss automaker recently showcased their latest electric vehicle that they have dubbed the MicroMAX at the Geneva Auto Show.

As you can see above, the MicroMAX from Rinspeed might be small in size, but that is exactly why Rinspeed thinks it is going to succeed. It might be relatively small sized to larger people movers, but it would be extremely useful as a commuter taxi-bus-hybrid that comes jam packed with cloud-based software, allowing vehicles within a fleet to communicate with one another in order to set up future passenger pickups. We are talking about smart rides here, people, that are dynamic and work according to a "Just In Time" model.

The Rinspeed MicroMAX can carry a maximum of three average sized adults and their luggage within its living room-like cabin, and that alone comes with its range of creature comforts such as a coffee machine, a fridge and integrated Wi-Fi, and of course, a driver, considering how the MicroMAX is not going to be one of those driver-less rides just yet. Everyone will have to stand up to a certain degree as there is no place to seat fully as you lean on half-seats which are equipped with safety belts.

Underneath the hood, you will find a 28-kilowatt electric motor that is capable of traveling 100 kilometers before requiring a charge, making the MicroMAX a friend of the environment as well. Right now, Rinspeed is in talks with different automakers concerning the MicroMAX, where they are looking at a cost of between 5,000 and 10,000 Euros each.
