Posted: 22 Jun 2010 03:00 PM PDT It’s entirely possible this Hug-A-Plug shouldn’t be that big of a deal. After all, it’s just a plug. However, if you’ve ever tried to use one of the plugs that gives you more outlet room when you have furniture right against the wall, you understand why it is a big deal. This plug would take a whole lot of headache out of your life just by making one task a little more simple. The Hug-A-Plug was obviously created to make it hug the wall. This way you don’t have an adapter, then plugs sticking out of the adapter, causing all of that to stick out. This was made for USA outlets, so those with other types aren’t going to be able to use this, obviously. Surely there is something similar in other parts of the world though. You can purchase this cheap little wall adapter for $4.95 through CyberGuys. Clock uses its own batteries for hands Posted: 22 Jun 2010 03:00 PM PDT It’s nice to know that we haven’t abandoned clocks in this digital age, and just when I thought the Morse Code clock was as minimalist as they come, here comes “The Front & Back” clock. See the hands on the clock face? In case you haven’t figured it out yet, they are the batteries. I’m sure that you probably figured out that these batteries are the only thing powering this clock. Just think, all this time I have had clocks on my walls that used batteries on the back, when I should have put them on the front! This clock is designed by a group known as The Wrong Objects, but I really think that this group is misnamed. I think it should be the right objects, as the batteries are finally getting their place in importance on the clock: the front. Yeah, without those batteries, there would be no clock. You would only have a clock that is right twice a day. Batteries, you are getting your due! Best of all, I don’t have to take the clock down when it is time to change the battery. Well, it doesn’t look like this clock is going to be making its way to the consumer any time soon. However, I’ve seen stranger and less useful things end up being mass-produced and in the hands of consumers, so I don’t see why you wouldn’t see this at Wal-Mart. California to get digital license plates? Posted: 22 Jun 2010 02:19 PM PDT I’ve learned that there is a group in San Francisco that wants to make license plates digital. This doesn’t surprise me. I suppose that print is a slowly dying medium, and I think we all knew that all road signs are going to be replaced with video displays. License plates are things that change all the time, and if there was some digital way of tracking them and changing them when needed, then new ones wouldn’t have to be printed all the time. Sounds good, right? Here is the kicker. Apparently, the same group that wants to do digital license plates wants to make it possible so you can put ads on them. You might want to read more after the jump. Yes, that’s right. Ads. These ads wouldn’t be displayed while the car was in motion, but if the car was motionless after a few seconds, then the commercials begin. The whole reason for having these ads is to help California pay for debts that the state has accrued over the years. Apparently, the state governed by the Terminator has a $19 billion dollar debt. I honestly don’t know if a state would get in debt more with this program. I also don’t know if it would be good to put even more advertising on the streets. Do we really need another distraction on the road? Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. Posted: 22 Jun 2010 01:50 PM PDT It seems that no one uses Morse code anymore, I don’t even think the military teaches it like they did. Well you can be the lone man that stands against progress. Just make yourself the Morse Code Clock and you’ll keep your knowledge a whole lot more fresh. You never know when that could come in handy, come some apocalyptic situation and you might just have to teach the world how to use it all over again. The clock works by just tapping it on the top when you’re ready to learn the time. After you tap it, it’ll show you what time it is by lighting up in a Morse code sequence. Of course you will be in danger of looking like a know it all when your friends ask you the time and you whip out your Morse Code Clock. You can look into how to do this by going here and you can watch a video of it in action by going here. Source: Ubergizmo Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. Posted: 22 Jun 2010 01:40 PM PDT Having a light on your porch is a luxury not all of us currently have. Be it because you’re intimidated by the idea of installing a light or you’re living in a rental, sometimes you just learn to do without. If you’re intimidated by that wiring job, you don’t have to go without though. Instead you could pick up this simple light that doesn’t require nearly as much work. Since it’s not going to do any damage to mount it, even renters could get some use out of this and take it with them when they move. It features 6 LED lights and can be used indoors or outdoors. It uses a motion sensor to figure out when exactly to kick on. In order to keep it powered, it’ll need 4 C batteries that you’ll have to purchase separately. You can purchase the light for $25.52 through Amazon. Pepper Mouth keeps you from cursing online Posted: 22 Jun 2010 01:32 PM PDT This next device, the Pepper Mouth, uses behaviorism techniques in order to keep you from swearing, at least online. You know how you train a dog not to bark by spraying some fruit spray? This is designed to spray you whenever you type a curse word on a computer. It can connect to the computer via USB, and sits as a fixture on your desk. It is a fixture that will do nothing but be a paperweight until its programmed set of four-letter (and I imagine not four-letter) words is typed in on an e-mail, Word document, Facebook post, etc.. Then that hand will light up thanks to an LED light, and you have a few seconds to untype your curse before you get sprayed. I’m not certain what the smell is, but if it is called “Pepper Mouth”, then perhaps it is pepper spray. That would probably stop me from working for a while, rather than being the distracted by a foul odor. Of course, you could always get a swear jar. Hey, I got a good idea: why not connect your online swearing with PayPal? Yeah, losing a few cents every time I write “@#$!” (oh, what’s that odor?) would definitely be better than washing my mouth out with soap. Adobe announces Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for mobile platforms Posted: 22 Jun 2010 06:30 AM PDT Adobe has finally taken the step to introduce Adobe Flash Player 10.1 to their mobile platform partners. This was specially redesigned from the ground up and not based off a previous version, delivering new performance and mobile specific features. In other words, Flash Player 10.1 is the first release which is touted to offer the full Web experience across desktops and mobile devices. Mobile users can now take advantage of the millions of sites that offer rich applications and content within the browser such as games, animations, rich Internet applications (RIAs), data presentations and visualizations, ecommerce, music, video and audio among others. Adobe hopes that Flash Player 10.1 will see over three million Flash designers and developers team up to unleash their creativity on the world of smart phones, tablets, netbooks, televisions and other consumer electronics devices. Currently, it is one of the top free apps on Android Market, and will also be made available as a final production release for smart phones and tablets once users make the jump to the Android 2.2 "FroYo" update – of course, this depends a whole lot on various carriers elsewhere since many carriers haven’t yet made the jump, with most Android devices still stuck on version 2.1 at the moment. At least we know the Dell Streak, Google Nexus One, HTC Evo, HTC Desire, HTC Incredible, DROID by Motorola, Motorola Milestone, Samsung Galaxy S and others will support Flash Player 10.1, and it will also work on BlackBerry, webOS, future versions of Windows Phone, LiMo, MeeGo and Symbian OS-powered devices as well in the form of over-the-air downloads or being pre-installed in the months to come. As for the desktop version of Flash Player 10.1 for Windows, Mac OS and Linux, you can always check it out here. Depending on the device and the device manufacturer, the upgrade mechanism will be different. Bananagrams word game helps drive you nuts Posted: 22 Jun 2010 05:00 AM PDT Love word games of all sorts? Then you might want to check out Bananagrams – yes, we know that for some of you out there, this is old hat, but there is nothing quite like seeing a retro item brought back to the limelight yet again. Bananagrams is a multi-award winning travel game that offers a much more frantic pace compared to Scrabble, and best of all is, there is no need for a board to get started. The banana-shaped pouch is capable of holding a dozen dozen lettered tiles that you can use to create your own Scrabble-style grid of words, and the first person who uses all their tiles will be declared as the winner. Being such a loose game, there are a few methods to play, where you can even go solo or dream up of your own rules. Bananagrams will retail for £14.99 a bunch (can we say that?), so why not take a break from all the video games that are coming your way this summer with something that doesn’t require you to stare into a screen all day long? Posted: 21 Jun 2010 07:30 PM PDT Amazon just announced that their Kindle e-reader will receive a price drop to $189, falling all the way from $259. For those who have been living under a rock for the past few years, the Amazon Kindle is the 3G wireless portable reader which allows you to think of a book and be reading in 60 seconds, regardless of where you are – subject to availability of a Wi-Fi or 3G connection, of course. Best of all is, there are no monthly fees or annual contracts to worry about, and you can choose from more than 600,000 books. Woe to those who purchased the Kindle just a day earlier at the full $259 price, eh? Check out the Coolest Gadgets 2008 Gift Guides, Christmas shopping made easy. Innpu offers first wired cell phone in the world Posted: 21 Jun 2010 07:18 PM PDT
From the outside, the built-in retractable headphone module might seem to be an extremely simple form factor, but it is very different in real life since it is rather quite technical. Innpu actually spent the better part of 5 years to gather multi-national technology experts for the development of polymer materials, new composite materials, and a continuous innovation process, just so that they can release a device that surpasses ordinary headphone winding capability, which now allows their wired cell phone to wind up to ten thousand times during the handset’s service life, while overcoming obstacles such as module size constraints that can affect ease of use and speed. Innpu’s wired cell phone is said to be made available worldwide in due time, and the future could be very different with this technology being extended to other devices out there such as netbooks, notebooks, the iPad and small mobile network terminals, not to mention portable media players.
