Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR announced

Posted: 04 Mar 2012 04:30 AM PST

Canon is at the forefront of DSLR technology yet again with their latest model, the EOS 5D Mark III. It might not be the highest end model in the market, but that does not mean it is a slouch in terms of performance – I do not think a company like Canon that has so much riding on their name would settle for something sub-par, do you? Anyways, back to the main topic – the Canon EOS 5D Mark III will be placed in between the extremely popular EOS 5D Mark II as well as Canon's top end model, the venerable EOS-1D X.

Just what does the EOS 5D Mark III carry? For starters, it is capable of delivering superb image quality courtesy of its new 22.3-megapixel full-frame Canon CMOS sensor, which works in tandem with a high-performance DIGIC 5+ Imaging Processor, a 61-point High Density Reticular Autofocus (AF) System and six frames-per-second (fps) continuous shooting speed.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III will continue where the Canon EOS 5D Mark II leaves off, incorporating enhanced video features for professionals in the fields of cinematography, television production and documentary filmmaking. Old users as well as new adopters alike ought to find that this model delivers better noise reduction, longer recording times and a built-in headphone jack for audio monitoring purposes.

Just how does the Canon EOS 5D Mark III fare when it comes to shooting videos? For starters, it is capable of capturing 1080p Full HD video at 24p (23.976), 25p, and 30p (29.97) fps; 720p HD recording at 60 (59.94) and 50 fps; and SD recording at 30 (29.97) and 25 fps, which opens up a whole new world of opportunities for cinematographers and videographers when it comes to capturing memories for posterity.

Expect the Canon EOS 5D Mark III to roll out at the end of this month, where the body alone will retail for a rather hefty $3,499. For those who want to pick it up with the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens kit, that will bump the price up to $4,299. At least you know where your salary is going to at the end of this month.

Vizio Internet Apps TV Video Camera offers Skype service in living room

Posted: 04 Mar 2012 04:00 AM PST

Skype – now this is one VoIP service that has attracted millions upon millions of users, where the most recent milestone included breaking the 34 million users on Skype – simultaneously. Over the years, smart TVs have made their way into the market, with some of them sporting Skype functionality. Vizio wants to jump aboard the smart TV bandwagaon as well, where their latest Vizio Internet App TVs will feature Skype pre-loaded.

Even better is this, Skype users will not need to make the rather difficult choice (First World problems, anyone?) between their favorite TV show and a Skype call, where all incoming calls will appear on the TV, giving you the option of whether to pick up the Skype call whenever you watch a show. A quartet of built-in microphones are able to work within a radius of 16 feet, although I do not think that you would be sitting that far away from your TV in the first place.

The Skype app will automatically drop into the app dock on Vizio Internet App TV owners, making it extremely easy to hook up face-to-face with loved ones as well as friends on the big screen. In order to boot up Skype on a Vizio TV, you would need a decent broadband Internet connection (sorry to the handful of you who are on dial-up connections), in addition to Skype account, of course. Just in case you have been living under a rock for the longest time, Skype is free to download and use, it is only when you need to make a call to a landline overseas or a mobile phone, will you need to fork out money for that in the form of Skype credit.

Have you started to chat on your Vizio TV already? IF you have, how has your Skype habits changed – aren’t video calls a whole lot more enjoyable on the big screen?
