Moshi Concerti case targets iPad 2 owners

Posted: 01 Jun 2011 09:00 AM PDT

So you managed to line up and pick up an iPad 2 despite the extremely limited stock in the market, how are you going to differentiate yourself from the rest of the iPad 2 owners out there? Apart from having it come with a custom engraving on the back, there is another way, to use stickers or protective cases that are truly unique. Then again, all cases out there do not come as an exclusive, so you might just bump into someone else who shares the same taste with you.

Moshi knows this, but that has not stopped them from coming up with the Concerti Case for the iPad 2. The Moshi Concerti is a silicone and microfiber hybrid case which will deliver extreme versatility with unparalleled elegance to iPad 2 owners.

Specially tailored to offer users a sleek case which does not gimp your access to the iPad 2 in any way, the Moshi Concerti will let you use all interfaces and buttons without missing a beat, in addition to both the front and rear cameras from within the case. Basically, this means you can take advantage of programs such as FaceTime without having to remove the iPad from its case, neat, no?

Apart from that, the Moshi Concerti has another use – to work as an iPad stand with a trio of tilt positions to choose from. The Moshi Concerti for iPad 2 will sport a silicone inner case that ensures the iPad remains in place all the time, while an outer microfiber layer will deliver a soft suede-like feel. It has its own patented Terahedron microfiber inner lining that delivers superior 360 degree shock and scratch protection.

Heck, it even comes with an integrated hand pocket which will alleviate wrist stress whenever you hold the iPad for long periods of time, while an elastic strap will secure the front cover when it is closed. Since this is a Moshi product, it will offer a perfect fit when playing nice with a Moshi iVisor screen protector. You can choose from Tyrian Purple, Falcon Grey and Sahara Beige colors at $55 a pop.

NZXT FX Fan series for a quieter gaming experience

Posted: 01 Jun 2011 08:45 AM PDT

If you are going to use top notch graphics cards in your gaming rig, then you had best have one of the more reliable and effective cooling solutions to ensure that your gaming sessions don’t just halt in the middle, simply because of overheating issues. Apart from a good and stable liquid cooled solution, there are other ways such as not pushing the overclocking bit overboard, as well as getting a solid set of cooling fans.

NZXT, an old hand when it comes to cooling fans and computer chassis models, have just announced their latest NZXT FX Fan series which intends to deliver a much quieter gaming experience overall. This addition to the FX Fan series will offer performance fans for cooling enthusiasts which will push airflow to the max.

You can choose from both 120mm and 140mm sizes, where the FX fans are able to cough up anywhere between 35.8 and 96.0 CFM thanks to an integrated 3 phase fan speed control for optimal power and customization. Using Fluid Dynamic Bearing for long lasting performance, the FX series should be a permanent fixture in your performance rig for a long, long time to come.

Johnny Hou, Founder and Chief Designer at NZXT, has this to say aobut the new FX Fan series, "The NZXT community of gamers and enthusiasts places a high priority on powerful airflow. We're ecstatic to deliver even more horsepower to get the job done with the FX Fan Series."

You will be able to choose from the FX 120 and FX 140 models, where the former will be an extremely affordable $14.99 (€12.99), while the latter will cost you $16.99 (€14.99) a pop. That’s not too bad at all considering the kind of performance you get. Of course, you won’t have the quietest set of fans around, but if they get the job done, there is nothing much to complain about, no?

iPWN! Case for the iPhone 4

Posted: 01 Jun 2011 08:30 AM PDT

When it comes to the iPhone, accessory manufacturers would certainly love this handset to bits and pieces because it is hugely popular, and folks tend to want to accessorize their smartphone in order to stand out from the rest of the crowd. You have your wish this time around with the iPWN! Case that will play nice with both the Verizon Wireless as well as AT&T iPhone 4.

It comes in a super slim fit design that measures a mere 2mm thick – definitely not something that will add any unnecessary bulge to your handbag or pockets. Apart from that, it won’t hinder your access to the touchscreen display, buttons and peripheral ports – just like what any other good iPhone case should do, while offering adequate protection against knocks and bumps. Boasting IML (In Mold Labeling) technology, that will deliver up to 3 layers of protection to the case, all the while preventing color fading and resistance to moisture.

Would you fork out $16.99 for the iPWN! Case?

Dalek replica might be an expensive army to assemble

Posted: 01 Jun 2011 08:11 AM PDT

Dr. Who fans, heads up! Ever wondered how it would feel like to have an army of Daleks at your beck and call, annihilating anyone and everyone who gets in your way? Well, they say that money is not everything, but having more than enough of it is certainly something nice to have! What happens if we told you that it is now possible to own a slew of Dalek replicas? Too bad they cannot be remote controlled in any way to do your bidding, but at least they can sit there, looking all pretty and menacing on their own that some folks might even wonder whether they will be zapped if they get too near.

The only flipside to the Dalek replica? They cost a bomb at £3,000 apiece. Surely in the current economic climate, having to cough up that kind of money for an army of Dalek replicas is out of the question, unless you’re an oil sheikh who can’t find a better way to spend your money, of course.

Team Hot Wheels Life-sized track breaks world record

Posted: 31 May 2011 07:20 PM PDT

When I was my children’s age, I had some neighbors that had those orange flexible tracks for Hot Wheels cars. Try as I might, I never could get one of those cars to go through a loop.

Clearly, I am not the person who planned this jump from Team Hot Wheels. You can watch a video of it after the jump, and see the longest jump by a four-wheeled vehicle on May 29th, 2011 at the Indianapolis 500.

I’m not certain, but it sounds as if this life-sized Hot Wheels vehicle has no engine. I guess they must have just got some giant hand to push it up the ramp before they pushed it down.

The driver is an X-Games veteran and stunt driver Tanner Foust, and the track is a 10-story drop. It went about 332 feet, and I would imagine it would not have gone that far if it had an engine weighing it down.

You will note that the landing look a little rough, and the video editing didn’t really help to see how it worked. Hopefully, the driver was well protected.

Man, if Hot Wheels had a theme park, I would ride this ride. Actually, I would probably chicken out once they got me to the top.

Steve Jobs to officially announce iCloud and iOS 5 at WWDC 2011

Posted: 31 May 2011 06:57 PM PDT

Next week, I am leaving for L.A. to go to E3, but I’m sure that most of the news before the big video game conference will be devoted to what Apple is doing.

At WWDC 2011, Steve Jobs will be on deck to announced three new big things (at least) with iCloud, OS X Lion, and iOS 5.

So what is iCloud? Right now, there isn’t anything on that website, but it is the cloud service that we have all have been wanting on Apple for a long time now. I am guessing that the iCloud will be some sort of new streaming music service like on MobileMe, or something, just like Amazon and Google are doing. The rumors are that this streaming could apply to more than just music, but to movies and television.

I suppose we shouldn’t be too surprised, as cloud computing is everywhere these days, and yet somehow nowhere. The OS X Lion and iOS 5 should come as no shock to anyone.

I guess what surprises me most of all is that I haven’t heard much about any introduction of an iPhone 5 at this event. Wasn’t the iPhone 4 introduced last year? Why yes, it was, and if Steve pulls out the next version at WWDC, I wouldn’t exactly be surprised. I would be more surprised that it would have been kept a secret, honestly.

BodyGuard electric gauntlet delivers a 500,000 volt handshake

Posted: 31 May 2011 06:30 PM PDT

This is the BodyGuard, an electro-gauntlet, which is actually the best description of this device that I know.

The BodyGuard has some other features, like a laser pointer, video camera, and a hefty taser of with 500,000 volts. I suppose that one could classify it as a weapon, and I suppose that it is much less violent than a gun. I don’t know, but 500,000 volts sounds pretty harmful, however, I heard that it is not the volts, but the amps. However, since this thing has a video camera, you can watch the victim get some serious shock therapy.

The gauntlet also has a hard outer shell, which means this device is a good defense as well as an offense. It definitely looks like something Batman would wear if he didn’t keep all of his contraptions on his belt. It even has some pointy things on it.

I seem to recall that the villain from the James Bond film Die Another Day wore one of these and shocked the heck out of 007 and Halle Berry. By the way, the shock-glove served as his undoing at the end of the film. Hopefully I didn’t spoil the end of that film. Speaking of films, this device is designed by a cameraman and friend of Kevin Costner.

Well, I’m not certain if this electric gauntlet will be available to the general public, and I don’t have a price. I just hope I’m never on the receiving end of this thing.
