Hydroview – Visit Under the Sea, without Getting Wet Posted: 22 Jun 2012 02:07 PM PDT I am fascinated by the oceans, I am a certified diver and try to check out our underwater world as often as I can. I definitely don’t get down there as much as I’d like, if only there was a way to visit, without so much of a commitment. Check out the Hydroview, an amazing remote controlled, underwater vehicle that actually records live video and takes photographs in full HD and then streams them straight to your iPad so you, and all your friends, can see deep under the sea, without any of you even getting wet. The Hydroview is of benefit to all levels of deep sea explorers, but it has some extremely practical uses as well, one can use the Hydroview to search for lost valuables, inspect anchors or boat hulls, actually study sea life, or inspect underwater cables or walls. It’s easy to “drive” your Hydroview via specialty software located on your iPad, android phone or laptop, whilst searching for mermaids or sunken treasures. The unit is extremely portable and has been designed by engineers who envisioned a vehicle that could “fly” through the water and provide us with some amazing scenes from the sea. The 8 pound 1 MP Hydroview has a 2 hour runtime and comes with a rechargeable battery, it moves forward at up to 5 knots with 1 knot in reverse. Hydroview comes with it’s standard 75 foot cable, LED lights, waterproof carrying case and the topside wi-fi box. Options include 150 foot and 300 foot cable lengths, hovering control, deluxe pontoon lights and an extended battery. Hydroview is available at aquabotix.com for $3995.00 which seems a bit extravagant for the camera capabilities, although in checking out the sample videos posted on their website, the Hydroview could be a very valuable underwater tool, but what’s the justification on pricing. Does anyone know?

Frrole – Our World, as Seen by Us Posted: 22 Jun 2012 10:22 AM PDT I hardly ever watch the news on TV anymore, I usually just read the headlines online, that way I can avoid all the bad stuff that upsets me (and that I can’t do anything about) and just read the few things that I find interesting. I would enjoy a little extra local news, stuff that’s relevant, updated, and that I can read when I feel like it… Welcome Frrole, taking the best of social media and bringing it home, Frrole considers input from millions of individuals and organizations as its “go-to” source for news. It also looks at universal data streams and not just at what a specific user’s social network is sharing. Covering more than 50 cities, Frrole also supports country specific news editions. The US edition is created by aggregating the top news from 33 US cities that Frrole covers. Here’s how it’s put together, Frrole analyzes more than 10 million real time tweets and selects about 0.1% of them that its algorithms see as informational, then it organizes the news from these tweets into sections like Sports, Entertainment, Travel etc… just like a traditional news source would do. Frrole tells us that “by putting in place a process that is 90% algorithmic, 5% community controlled and 5% editor controlled, Frrole creates a scalable model for news extraction and consumption that could be used to create localized news sources for cities all over the world.” Since its beta release, Frrole has grown by almost 2000% and it’s been featured on TV and in some social media blogs. Frrole is gaining popularity quickly, and may very well end up being the future of news. Could Frrole’s way of gathering information from 1000′s of “sources”actually democratize our news and remove some of the ridiculously slanted reporting we’re getting so used to these days? Go check out Frrole for yourself at frrole.com or the mobile Web at m.frrole.com and please let me know what you think. [ Frrole – Our World, as Seen by Us copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
Samsung Galaxy S3 experiences full US launch Posted: 22 Jun 2012 06:30 AM PDT So, it seems that the latest and greatest Samsung smartphone to date – the Samsung Galaxy S3, has just arrived on the planet, in particular in the US. This premium Android-powered smartphone is now available online on T-Mobile’s website, as well as in select retail stores. As for AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular customers, you will be able to place an order for the Samsung Galaxy S3 with the respective carriers in-store as well as online within the coming few weeks. To make sure that the Samsung Galaxy S3 kicked off with a bang, it was launched in New York City last night alongside a star-studded event hosted by actress Ashley Greene who is of Twilight fame. There were 500 fans who were granted access to an experiential event held at Skylight Studios, where they were allowed to test drive the sharing capabilities of the Galaxy S3. Well enough about the star power of the phone, I guess rehashing the hardware specifications would make for better reading, just in case some of us have forgotten what the Samsung Galaxy S3 offers. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is said to be more human than ever before, where it is capable of responding intuitively and naturally for the human to use and interact with. It is said to balance ergonomics with intuitive use, allowing the device to end up as an extension of its user. As sharing is one of the key features of the Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung hopes to hook up its new owners with free premium content thanks to Samsung Share-to-Go Stations across the nation. Not only that, it will use Near Field Communication (NFC) technology that has been incorporated into the Galaxy S3, and Samsung customers will also be able to perform content download straight to their device through the tapping of the handset to the smart board or kiosk. Once the content is downloaded, it will be stashed away on the device for viewing at any time. Beacon is also one of the latest offerings from Samsung, which is a mobile-only magazine, where this content hub will be filled with the latest news, tips, information and entertainment which were specially designed for people who have long ditched the desktop experience, and have taken the route of the tablet. Will you be bringing home the Samsung Galaxy S3? [ Samsung Galaxy S3 experiences full US launch copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
Belkin launches WeMo range to the masses Posted: 22 Jun 2012 06:00 AM PDT Belkin, a name that has long been associated with home networking products that are on par with the best out there, has just launched a range of modular, Wi-Fi-based devices that they call WeMo. The WeMo will basically have the power of GreySkull, wait a minute, I have my quotes all mixed up. The WeMo offers can transform an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into a remote control for household devices. This is made possible thanks to the presence of two initial products, the WeMo Switch and the WeMo Motion. WeMo will play nice with the free WeMo app thrown into the mix that allows it to create a scalable, customizable home control system which was specially designed to provide added safety, convenience, and peace of mind. Jamie Elgie, senior director of product management for Belkin, said, “WeMo uses familiar technology to create a plug-and-play solution for controlling gadgets and appliances remotely. Designed to address simple automation needs without the hassle or expense of whole home automation, WeMo is an easy and fun way to put your home at your fingertips.” The WeMo Switch functions as a small device that you plug straight into any electrical outlet, where it will function as the main building block for WeMo. Once the Switch has been hooked up to the home Wi-Fi network, all devices plugged into it will also be able to be turned on or off remotely, regardless of whether you are at home, or out on the move – all thanks to the WeMo app. Not only that, the WeMo app will also allow users to place devices on a timed schedule, a move that will come in handy if you are about to head off for a long vacation so that people will think you are at home, as these devices will turn on or off at pre-set times. As for the WeMo Switch + Motion, it will throw in a sensor which is able to detect motion within a radius of 10 feet, and will also perform a turning on or off anything plugged into the switch depending on the motion detected. The app also enables users to draw up their own set of rules or schedules that will be based on customized intervals. The WeMo Switch and WeMo Switch + Motion will retail for $49.99 and $99.99, respectively. [ Belkin launches WeMo range to the masses copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
Posted: 22 Jun 2012 05:30 AM PDT All right, so you are not of bartender material, but this does not mean that you cannot own your own bar, right? After all, owning a business does not mean you have to be proficient in the product that your business offers, it is just that you are that darn talented in running it, employing people who are smarter than you in the process. If you think that the kind of drinks that your local watering holes serve over the tap are not up to your discerning standard and taste, here is the $45,000 Professional Microbrewery that you might want to consider as your next purchase. The Professional Microbrewery is an automated brewing system that is currently used in professional microbreweries, hence explaining the rather astronomical price tag. Specially scaled for the home brewmeister, it is a Hammacher Schlemmer exclusive, sporting a Heat Exchange Recycling Mash (HERM) system that is said to be able to create a refreshing lager, a spirited Hefe-weizen, or even a full-bodied stout. All you need to do is enter a recipe over an integrated touch screen computer, and the 15-gallon hot liquor tank will get to work right away. Posted: 22 Jun 2012 05:00 AM PDT “There’s an app for that”, or so it goes, and here we are with the iPad which is capable of controlling an LED wall art installation, virtually allowing it to morph into any psychedelic work of art that fits your ever-changing mood. Known as the Aurora LED wall by Friedland, the whole idea of this technological artistic installation was due to the need to fill up an empty 6′ by 12′ wall in Greg’s living room. They say that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Basically, the lights in the Aurora LED wall will comprise of a grid of 544 RGB LEDs that is able to display approximately 16 million colors, all bound to a board that measures 4′ by 8′. The LEDs will be controlled by a microcontroller, where in turn it is controlled by a program that runs on a notebook. The computer will function as the brain of a system, where it will be able to churn up the graphics required to light up the wall with relevant artwork. A microcontroller will work to relay the messages to the LEDs. Said PC software will hook up to the software that runs on the iPad, allowing one to interact with the moving patterns in real time. Not only that, the Aurora LED wall is also capable of responding to music, bouncing and flashing alongside the beat. Seems to be something worth having in your home, no?
