Master Your Body Language

Posted: 25 Sep 2012 01:25 PM PDT

Body language is powerful. It is the most impactful part of interpersonal communications and can be the ultimate way to make or break a situation. The impact of good versus bad body language can be the difference between getting the job or date (or not getting them) or even as extreme as impacting our self-confidence. Mirroring the posture of those we interact with becomes the best method for success in any situation. Stop and look at people you interact with. Does the closed posture of a colleague in a meeting get you excited to work with them? Or guys, how about the gal you buy a drink for who proceeds to cross her legs and arms. Probably not getting those digits, hu? And of course we rarely realize the negative vibes we give off. Our bodies are not trained to overcome negative body language without consciously realizing the error.

A project at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland is looking to transform our body's ability to realize and adjust body language while interacting with others. RISR is a set of wearable sensors that gives the user feedback on their body language via vibration. The unit consists of an IR camera on the front that captures body language of those you interact with. A 'brain' or central control point analyzes the motion of those you are with. Then the vibrations of the network of sensors give feedback on how to position yourself. When activated, RISR constantly evaluates posture of whoever you are with, and adjusts you accordingly. The harness is worn under clothing. To calibrate it you spend time 'teaching' it your typical body language. Then when ready to use the unit, engage it by activating the RISR app from a smartphone. Get a behind the scenes look at RISR via the video above.

So is RISR just a fancy way to get a date or a job? To some extent yes, but enhanced body language inevitably leads to an increase in self-confidence. Other possible applications for RISR could involve people with conditions that impact their social skills. RISR could work with them to improve their reactions to different situations. Sure the concept is still just that, but who knows. If technology can help improve interpersonal communications I am sure there will be some takers.

One Device, Four Ways to Charge

Posted: 25 Sep 2012 11:23 AM PDT

We can never get enough power. Come on. Admit it. You have done crazy things to get power. There is the "turn on your dying laptop to leak some USB power into your phone" trick. Or the "go sit in the car and use the car charger to make a phone call" routine. I am sure you have more stories. Share them below if you want! If you prefer to have options in those desperate or not-so-desperate situations check out the 4-in-1 Power Charger from Brookstone.

The name is logical. “4″ because you have 4 methods to get power: standard wall plug, car charger, USB and 9 volt battery. “1″ because you route which ever type of power into a standard USB connector with a retractable cord. Add an adaptor – many of which are included with the unit – and you are charging. An LED connection indicator lets you know when you are charging. The unit is compatible with iPhone, Blackberry and other smartphones. But it also provides a great source for cameras or e-readers. Think of the uses! In addition to the predicaments above, the 4-in-1 works great for travel, camping or home use. And it also makes a really practical gift that virtually anyone would appreciate. All of this power can be yours for $39.99. So why wait, get yourself prepared for those all of your power situations – frantic or not.

OUYA – Thinking way Inside the Box

Posted: 25 Sep 2012 08:44 AM PDT

I probably shouldnt admit it, but I clearly remember our very first video game console. The Magnavox Odyssey. My parents brought it home, and I was mesmerized as it was hooked up to the TV, so many games choices (both Pong and Hockey) and I was able to sit in front of it for hours, with anyone willing to play. It was the beginning of my love affair with technology. Gaming on the TV was always a good time, but it’s about to get better…

Check out OUYA, getting ready to change the rules of gaming, and of game developing right back to the way it used to be. OUYA is a world-class controller, console, and interface all bundled up  into one beautiful, very inexpensive package. This Android based OPEN system not only allows for tweaking, but encourages it, and better still, it gives developers a home where they can dispense with some of the financial hurdles and publishing fees and get back to making awsome games that folks can play in their living room.

You win, because all the games on it will be free, at least to try, and developers win because it opens the doors for almost anyone to bring a new game to market. No longer do you have to invest in a license or software development kit (SDK or “devkit”) The OUYA is one! Imagine all that power in the palm of your hands. Anything published to Android is fair game on this little cutie, so play games, listen to music, watch videos… need I say more?

With more than 60,000 people behind OUYA, I think its a pretty safe bet we’ll be seeing the little cubes turning up sometime next Spring, so if you’d like to have one, head on over to OUYA.tv and pre-order one, and when you do something really cool with it, I want to be the first to know! Deal?

Samsung announces EX2F SMART camera

Posted: 25 Sep 2012 06:30 AM PDT

It seems to me that Wi-Fi connectivity in digital cameras these days seem to be an in-demand feature. It makes perfect sense, really, especially when you have GBs of photos as well as videos to transfer over to your computer, why not rely on a wireless connection to get the job done instead of wasting precious minutes hunting down that ever wayward cable? Not only does it reduce the clutter around your workspace, it also looks a whole lot neater. Before I rant on to another topic altogether, let us see what is the main reason for this story – the Samsung EX2F digital camera that will come with Wi-Fi connectivity (which we will talk about in greater detail later), where it will target the prosumer class of users.

First of all, the Samsung EX2F might seem to be a compact camera with its $499.99 price tag, but don't be fooled by its outward appearance. For starters, it will boast of a bright f/1.4 lens for premium image quality and performance, continuing the good work of its predecessor, the TL500. Those who want to up their game in the world of digital photography will definitely find the inclusion of full manual controls a boon, where the entire get up comes in a strong yet lightweight magnesium body.

It does seem to be an option for professional photographers who want something more portable than a dSLR, and yet can shoot above average images. The Samsung EX2F is said to excel in dim atmospheres with its 1/1.7" 12-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, where accompanying the full manual control would be Aperture and Shutter Priority modes. There is a Dual Dial and front wheel keys so that photographers are able to quickly and easily adjust exposure for effortless manual control.

Last but not least, there is the 3-inch Swivel AMOLED display that makes it ideal to line up shots from a creative angle, and you can view your images under virtually any lighting conditions, now how about that? Throw in Dual Optical and Digital Image Stabilization (OIS and DIS) to the mix, and you have quite the pocket rocket there in terms of digital cameras for shoppers on a budget.

Samsung MV900F SMART Camera announced

Posted: 25 Sep 2012 06:00 AM PDT

When it comes to the world of digital cameras, you have three tiers to choose from – professionals will settle for the dSLRs as well as Micro Four Thirds for certain jobs, while there is the pro-sumer class of cameras that can be said to be "neither here nor there", and last but not least, the entry level class which is where most beginners would start off with. Samsung's latest attempt in the digital camera market would target the entry level segment with the Samsung MV900F SMART camera, where it is said to offer a high-performing lens that works well even in low light conditions, without breaking the bank in the process.

The Samsung MV900F will be the latest member of Samsung's Wi-Fi SMART camera family, where it intends to pursue the market that its predecessor, the MV800, left off. One of the MV900F's more unique and innovative features would be a 180-degree MultiView display that makes it a snap to shoot creative self-portraits regardless of the angle, and when you throw Wi-Fi connectivity into the mix, you know that sharing images with family and friends have become far easier than before.

With Integrated Wi-Fi technology, you can hook up to Facebook, Picasa, Photobucket and YouTube instantly, where the dedicated SMART LINK button lets you transfer or share images and videos in a jiffy.

Not only that, the Samsung MV900F will also come with a F/2.5 bright lens so that you can shoot decent looking images even in low light conditions, now how about that? Samsung's ground-breaking Gesture Shot has also been thrown into the mix, where you can now zoom and snap a photo from a distance using simple hand motions, although it remains to be seen just how far or effective Gesture Shot is until we actually manage to try it out for ourselves.

If you are interested in the Samsung MV900F, then you will be able to pick it up for a relatively affordable $349.99, where it will come in sophisticated white and black shades. Any takers?

Fuzz Internet Radio – Wanna be a DJ?

Posted: 25 Sep 2012 05:34 AM PDT

I hardly listen to regular FM radio anymore. With all the free internet radio options, Pandora being one of my all time fave’s, couple that with satellite radio and all the tunes I have downloaded to my various iDevices and I though I pretty much had all my musical needs covered. Well, I have been wrong before (of course that was when I thought I was wrong and wasn’t) but what follows seems pretty interesting.

Check out FUZZ, a brand new internet radio station that does away with robotic playlists and features music stations that are populated by real people, making real choices, and allowing you to find people who share your musical tastes, and thereby… exactly the right music for you.

Available only in the United States (hopefully limited just for the beta testing) you get to search through interesting musical choices that are compiled by real people, choose from Totally Freakin 80′s, or Rare R&B, perhaps 90′S Hip Hop is more to your liking, or Indie Madness… Its all there waiting for you, but perhaps you’d rather try your hand at the DJ biz yourself and share your own collections, you can do so simply by creating your own station and the FUZZ utilizes user feedback to see just how well you spin with the best stations rising to the top.

So check it out, become a part of it, or just listen from the sidelines, it may just change the way you do tunes forever. FUZZ.com
