ReCover iPhone 4 Case

Posted: 04 Jul 2011 09:53 AM PDT

Your iPhone 4 might be so 2010, but that doesn’t mean you can bring it back to the days of past gizmos to help it remember the hottest portable devices of yore? Basically, what we’re asking you to do is not step into a time machine, but to purchase the £12.99 ReCover iPhone 4 Case and fit it to your smartphone instead. You will be able to choose from a trio of designs – a game controller, a calculator, and an old school camera.

This is the perfect way to make sure your iPhone 4 remains free from scratches, although we can’t guarantee that it will be able to survive a knock or a long drop to the hard concrete floor. The print of the retro icon will be at the back, and some might even think that you’ve gone insane putting in a game controller into your pocket until you flip it to the other side…

Out of the three, which design would you aim for?

Jabra STONE 2 Bluetooth headset

Posted: 04 Jul 2011 09:40 AM PDT

Bluetooth headsets are dime a dozen, but how many of them are truly unique from the rest? Well, Jabra has been a mainstay in the world of Bluetooth devices since time immemorial, so we are not surprised to see the company roll out another Bluetooth headset that keeps up with the times – known as the Jabra STONE 2. Just what does the Jabra STONE 2 bring to the table? Well, you will have to read on to find out in the extended post, but here’s a little primer.

The Jabra STONE 2 is unique in its own way because it is capable of helping you read aloud a text message or an email – perfect when you need your hands and eyes to be focused elsewhere – like the road, for example. Apart from that, you can also opt to update your Facebook or social network site page using nothing but the power of speech, now how about that?

Voice control would be the keywords here. With the Jabra STONE 2, you are empowered to make, answer, end, redial, ignore and reject a call (even call back) using nothing but your voice. Yes sir, all you need to do is memorize a bunch of easy function-related words, and speak them out when in need – among them include "Call Dad", "Answer", and "Ignore", for a true blue hands-free communication experience.

With Voice Guidance, you too will be able to hear the name of the caller via Jabra STONE 2, according to how the name is stored on the handset. Best to get your phone book in order then, otherwise you might find the Jabra STONE 2 go bonkers when it reads out someone known as B4D45S call. Should the caller's number not be stored in the phone, the Jabra STONE 2 will proceed by reading out the phone number.

Not only that, the introduction of Voice Applications makes the STONE 2 all the more useful as it will make use of the Jabra World of Apps portal, letting you search for apps quickly, ranging from games to entertainment; voice dialing and translation (and even transcription); and GPS service amongst others. The portal also boasts of voice-enabled applications that lets you send text messages or emails using nothing but your voice, or to read what the latest emails are all about, as well as search for a local business.

This uniquely shaped Bluetooth headset has a talk time of 10 hours and 15 days of standby time, and will come in black and white colors. Which suits you better?

Bring Jurassic Park to your home with the 20 Foot Animatronic Triceratops

Posted: 04 Jul 2011 09:25 AM PDT

I’m not too sure about you, but when Jurassic Park first hit the cinemas all those years ago, my jaw literally dropped to the floor for the first time in my life. Such lifelike special effects that made me ask, “Just how the heck did they manage to do it?” To see man and dinosaur walk together is truly one of the more spine-chilling experiences to date, even though it was only on the silver screen. Well, since Father’s Day is already over and you need to start earning brownie points with your kids to be called the “Best Father in the World” for 2012, here’s a quick tip – bring home the 20 Foot Animatronic Triceratops for them.

Sure, it costs a cool $350,000 and you will probably get an earful from your wife for purchasing this without her permission, but how else are you going to keep the kids happy? This is no ordinary robotic display – it has been featured at museums around the US as part of a traveling exhibit, sporting motion sensors that allow it to respond to onlookers with lifelike reactions. Not only that, you get the standard bellows from a triceratops – or at least, what scientists believe it would sound like if it were real.

There will be motion-activated cameras installed into each eye that will function in unison with customized interactive software, letting this Cretaceous creature recognize multiple subjects’ facial features. The moment such facial features are identified, subjects’ tracked movements are capable of triggering a set of responses:, including having it sway its tri-horned head right, left, up, and down. Should it feel threatened, it will stomp and scuff its right forelimb, while opening up its jaws while growling.

Digitally controlled servos and silent, pneumatic air-activated cams would be the virtual “engine” behind these movement, and with an exterior that has been crafted by professional sculptors from polyurethane foam and textured silicone over a steel and aluminum frame, you can be sure that this is as lifelike as it gets. Good thing there is no poop to pick up after, anyone who has reared cows would know how much these let out, what more an ancient herbivore.

3-in-1 All Terrain Robot

Posted: 04 Jul 2011 09:10 AM PDT

Have some spare time over the weekend that you want to dabble in a robotics project? Well, you can’t really go wrong with the 3-in-1 All Terrain Robot, that’s for sure. After all, it costs a mere £24.99 a pop, where it comes with half a dozen separate caterpillar tracks as well as a choice of three possible models, giving you much more bang for your hard-earned buck than any other robots out there in the market.

You name it – piles of leaves or pebbly beaches, the 3-in-1 All Terrain Robot is capable of traversing through them without missing a beat. You will be able to change between the robot's Rover, Forklift or Gripper forms, while the basic wired controller ought to be enough to give you control over just about anything. The caterpillar tracks will make manoeuvring in tight spaces a snap. Just make sure you have a quartet of AA batteries ready to power the wired controller…

Nox Audio Specialist and Scout Headphones

Posted: 04 Jul 2011 08:30 AM PDT

While I was at E3, I got a chance to see Nox Audio and their products. Their latest and greatest aren’t coming out until later, but I had a chance to try out the Scout and the Specialist.

The Scout is essentially a pair of earbuds that “sets the standard for audio performance”. The Scout allows for portable gaming, listening to music, as well as being able to manage calls with a touch of a button.

As for the Specialist, I have a picture of that after the jump. It is also designed for everything that the Scout is for, but it is the over-the-ear headphones. It has a volume control located at the ear that is essentially a big knob.

Both of them had some quality sound. What makes the Scout unique is that it has those slots which help keep the buds in the ear. What is really unique about the Scout is how the cable is flat and square.

As far as the Specialist is concerned, it has Dual Drivers and a retractable microphone boom. They also fold up for some easy-to-use storage, and the cushions are constructed of breathable, ultra-soft memory foam.

You should be able to purchase the Specialist and the Scout for about $79.99 at the Nox Audio site.

These big statue heads are stereo speakers

Posted: 04 Jul 2011 08:00 AM PDT

As much as I hated Batman and Robin, the 1997 film that was probably worse in quality than the original 1968 Batman film, I did admire it art direction. In Batman and Robin, the city of Gotham was re-envisioned as a city of giant towers, mixed with gigantic statues.

I had to admit that I liked that aesthetic of gigantic statues mixed with everyday architecture, and you can have it in your home with Richard Grant’s new stereo speakers.

Behind the eyes of these giant heads are the cones of the speaker, and I don’t know how loud of a sound that this delivers. I also don’t know what materials that they are made of, as sources about this item are pretty brief to say the least.

I don’t suppose that they are made of stone. I’m guessing that you would want the sound to carry well, and I am not certain whether or not stone would do such a good job of that.

If you don’t mind having these big heads staring at you all the time, these giant statue head speakers should be available for purchase soon. I don’t seem to have a price for them at the moment.

The airport of 2050 could actually be more efficient

Posted: 03 Jul 2011 10:51 PM PDT

I think we all know that air travel is getting a little more uncomfortable every year, and I think we all know that is going to get worse.

In fact, a recent statistic has shown that it will increase from 6.5 million passengers per day to 44 million per day by the year 2050. Fortunately, aerospace giant EADS is teamed with a European tech consulting firm Altran to create a more efficient airport.

It was recently shown off at the Paris Air Show, and the video after the jump shows off the new system, the “friend-lean”. Yes, that seems to imply that we are leaning on each other, but this is not how they are hoping to resolve the coming problem of airport overcrowding.

The solution is re-creating airports and combining them with train stations. There is no more getting lost in between flights, as these miniature pods take passengers directly to the gate. Personalized schedules on mobile devices are also going to be big, and apparently, a passenger could arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the flight to the airport and get on board. I guess getting through airport security will be faster too.

In fact, there is even plans to have one of these mini-pods come to your house and take you to your plane. I suppose that we will see by the year 2050.
