Posted: 13 Apr 2010 05:03 PM PDT ThinkGeek is back with their Magnetic Accelerator Cannon which will play on the laws of Newtonian science, where it will definitely be something kids won’t mind checking out if they have a budding scientist’s mind. After all, it really isn’t that hard to put together, and does a pretty great job at illustrating what a magnetic accelerator would look like. It can be ready and armed within minutes without the need for any glue, and would make for a decent candidate at science fairs or in the comfort of your own home. Each $29.99 purchase comes with 10 metal balls, a loading tool, necessary instructions and half a dozen barrels for you to shoot. Messenger Dogs get a technical upgrade Posted: 13 Apr 2010 04:53 PM PDT I am not old enough to remember a time when a rescue dog consisted of a Saint Bernard with a small barrel of brandy around its neck. Fortunately, we are doing things differently now. Here’s another development in rescue dogs with this project from the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design. Student Laura Boffi came up with a high-tech dog collar that has the ability to search for survivors, tag the geolocation where the survivors are found, and then take a message back to the person’s loved ones while they wait for rescue. Apparently, a lot of survivors just want to send a message to their loved ones, just to let them know that they are safe. I assume that this message could be transmitted via text message or something. Some of these dogs can be trained to return to their owners, and some can be trained just to sit with the survivor until help comes. I believe my source refers to this tech as “Cyborg Messenger Dogs”, but I think that puts too much of a science fiction spin on this. I would prefer if this was some show on Animal Planet. I wonder what the title would be? How about simply just “High-Tech Messenger Dogs”. Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. Posted: 13 Apr 2010 04:20 PM PDT At first, I thought this multitouch floor was just another version of the Toe Mouse that we reported on the other day, but this multitouch floor could change the way we interact with computers. This multitouch floor was designed by researchers at Postdam, at the Hasso Plattner Institut. It is designed to respond to a person’s individual’s shoe pattern, and will identify them by footprint alone. There is a video of this after the jump, and you might be amazed at what it can do. For example, there is some sort of program that allows the user to draw on the floor with their feet. That might not be much, but the multitouch is able to replicate a QWERTY keyboard that is somehow able to recognize the tip of the foot. It would appear that the small multitouch floor is all they have now, but I can’t help but wonder what would happen if every floor was a multitouch. I’m thinking of something better than having an instant floor for Twister. I’m talking about floors that know who you are and what you are doing, or about to do. Yeah, if this multitouch floor ever gets into everyone’s house, it will be a necessary ingredient for one of those smart homes. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Xbox 360 made even more expensive Posted: 13 Apr 2010 02:14 PM PDT I was just looking at my Xbox 360 thinking that it didn’t look nearly shiny enough. Compared to a disco ball, it just doesn’t have enough pizazz. Thankfully the very wise CrystalRoc have quickly changed that. They set aside a bit of time to make sure that their Xbox 360 was well covered with Swarovski crystals. To be specific it is covered in 11,520 Swarovski crystals. It took a grand total of 70 hours to put on every single one of those tiny crystals. Of course I doubt that most people will ever get to even see one of these in person, much less even touch one. At least you’ll have an extremely shiny picture just in case you need to quickly distract someone. Source: Gearfuse Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. Posted: 13 Apr 2010 01:28 PM PDT If you’d like to be seeing dollar signs, now you can. Plus, you can store files about all sorts of things right behind the dollar sign. You don’t even have to be rich to own the little coin. Just pay a small amount and you’ll have this to wear right around your neck. It’s yet another way to wear your USB drive right around your neck without looking like the local computer repairman. Of course despite that you won’t look like a computer tech, you will have a bright gold dollar sign around your neck. Whether or not that could be considered a good or a bad thing is a bit debatable. These come in 3 different sizes (the storage size, not the pendant), each one with a ranging price. The 2GB drive costs $21, the 4GB is $24 and the 8GB is $34. All three can be found through USB Brando. Source: Gizmodiva Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. [ USB Dollar Sign Flash Drive copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2010 12:49 PM PDT Most speakers are made to be tucked into corners and barely ever get noticed. This Scandyna Megapod Speaker flat refuses to do exactly that. The shape alone draws your attention, then with the bright red it becomes impossible to ignore. Of course if red won’t really go with the colors within your home, there are many other color choices that aren’t quite so bold. This measures 884 by 348 by 535mm, then it also has a 25mm free-mounted tweeter. In addition to that it has a 125mm midrange driver. If these look familiar, it’s probably because you’ve come across the Minipod. It features the same odd shape as the Megapod. This larger version comes in blue, red, silver, yellow and white. To purchase it, it will cost you $2149 from Amazon. Source: ChipChick Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. [ Scandyna Megapod Speaker copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |

Posted: 12 Apr 2010 08:32 PM PDT I think we all want to have a mini-sub of our very own, don’t we? Well, I know that I do, which is why someone invented the Marion Hyper-sub powerboat. The Marion is able to achieve 75 kilometers per hour on top of the water with an 880 horsepower engine. I don’t know much about submarines, much less mini-submarines, but that seems a little fast. Of course, what you really want is it to go under the water, and it can go to depths of 250 feet. So far, test dives have clocked this thing at going one hour and 45 minutes using cabin air submerged. Granted, that isn’t long enough to do much, but hey, it’s submersible! I have no idea of its speed underwater. The Marion Hyper-sub powerboat is clearly designed to be the envy of the yacht club. You will not its awesome transparent roof as well as its streamlined design. The front has the fins of a Cadillac! Well, I don’t know what something like this will cost, but as the saying goes: “if you have to ask, then you can’t afford it”. I already know I can’t afford this. Perhaps one day I will know someone rich enough to take me for a ride someday. Check out the Coolest Gadgets 2008 Gift Guides, Christmas shopping made easy.
