Wicked Little Buds

Posted: 23 Apr 2010 12:00 PM PDT

If you’re on the lookout for earphones with a little bit of an edge, the line of Wicked Little Buds should do the trick.  Not one of these has a soft sweet exterior.  Some just have a nice metallic look, while others have skulls and other darks designs.  I will warn you that the website for these is extremely tedious to try to navigate through, but it’s worth checking out.

These are not high quality buds, so if you’re looking for the top of the line in audio you should look elsewhere.  However, if you just want a pair of buds that are practically disposable, while still looking good these would work great.  A few of the Wicked Empire Buds feature an Ace card, skulls and even an 8 ball.  The prices range from around $10 on up to $40.  A few of them are featured on Amazon if you’re interested in buying a pair.

SOLARLINK FR360 from Eton Corporation, recommended by the American Red Cross

Posted: 23 Apr 2010 11:41 AM PDT

I’ve seen emergency devices before, but the SOLARLINK FR360 has four options for powering.

It has a solar charger on the top of the handle that isn’t visible on this photo, and it also has a hand-crank for charging the rechargeable Ni-MH battery pack.

Of course, those are the green power sources. You can also use 3 AAA batteries, or an AC power cable, which is not included.

The FR360 is clearly meant to be used in emergency situations, and is given the recommendation by the American Red Cross.

It comes with more gadgets than a Swiss Army Knife such as a radio with AM/FM reception and seven NOAA weather bands. It also has a built-in flashlight that is quite bright as well as a flashing red light.

Another thing that this has is a USB port which will allow charging for anything that can be USB charged. You had better make certain that your phone has its USB charger, buddy!

It also as a digital tuner, auxiliary input so that other audio sources can be utilized, and an alarm clock. Of course, if you want to use the alarm kit, you had better make certain that this thing has enough power.

All in all, the FR360 is a good thing to have around in an emergency. It is available for purchase for about $50 at the Eton Corporation site.

The Mint: A Swiffer robot

Posted: 23 Apr 2010 11:02 AM PDT

Have you seen those Swiffer ads that show that the mop or broom is jealous of the lady with the Swiffer? They usually play “Love Stinks” or some other dead love song from a bygone era.

Yeah, I can’t stand those commercials either, but now it is Swiffer’s turn to be jealous with the Mint.

Simply put, the Mint is a Roomba for hardwood floors. That is how my source describes it, and I’m pretty certain that is how others would describe it as well.

After all, it is great to have those vacuum robots suck up the trash on the carpets, but that still leaves the hardwood floors unattended by your robot cleaners. The Mint has a Swiffer dry rag to get the dust, and then has it a wet cloth to do a mopping job.

So, it is a cleaning robot that can sweep and mop, and has a black diamond look to it. What more can you ask for?

Perhaps a better name. I can understand the name of Roomba, but that whole Mint thing implies something that you eat after dinner or before an important appointment.

Well, whatever reason they chose the name, here it is. You can get it for about $250.

Tailgate Grill attaches to your hitch

Posted: 23 Apr 2010 11:00 AM PDT

Personally, I wouldn’t really call this a tailgate grill, since it attaches to your hitch instead of sitting on the tailgate of a truck.  Then again, this might make it easier for those with things like SUVs could have their own version of a tailgate party without owning a pickup truck.  The grill doesn’t even ride in the vehicle as you drive down the road, so you won’t have to worry about it making a mess.

This locks onto a swing arm that stays in place during your entire trip.  The arm is made of heavy duty steel and fits into a standard receiving hitch.  When you’re ready to start grilling, the arm swivels out.  The grill itself is gas and has side tables that can swing out for serving food.  The hood of it is cast aluminum with a powder coated surface for durability.  The cooking surface itself is 352 square inches. You can purchase the whole set for $399.99 through Sky Mall.

Champ Sofa is both couch and a punching bag

Posted: 23 Apr 2010 10:17 AM PDT

Here is a couch that is “more than meets the eye” by German designer Tobias Fraenzel.

As you can see, the back cushion can flip up and become a punching bag. Granted, I don’t know why I would want such a thing, but you never know when frustration is going to hit, and hit hard. So why not just prop up the cushion and smack the living heck out of it?

This is the Champ Sofa, and it was made for Italian Campeggi and unveiled for Milan Design Week 2010.

I can see Sandra Bullock’s character using one of these in Miss Congeniality 3. Not that they should make one, because Miss Congeniality 2 really sucked. I mean, they used the score from Chicken Run, for crying out loud!

I’ve already thought of a movie where this could be used. It would be with a couple in an argument. The wife starts beating up the punching bag on the Champ Sofa, and the husband grabs his wife saying: “stop punching and listen to me!” At which point, the couple starts beating each other up, which somehow leads to them kissing and hugging.

Yeah, I know, it is a silly movie idea. However, it can’t be made until the Champ Sofa is mass-marketed. Unfortunately, my source does not know when that will be, and doesn’t have a price.

Nozzle tracks your water usage

Posted: 23 Apr 2010 10:03 AM PDT

For those committed to cutting down on the amount of water they use up, it might take a few different tricks to keep you on track.  This Save A Drop Hose Nozzle won’t force you to shut it down, but it will let you know just how much water is being used.  It’s a nozzle best used for those that have a specific goal in mind as far as their water usage  goes.

The nozzle itself works just like a normal one.  It has a 5" nonslip grip and multiple spray patterns.  No matter what your water pressure it’ll give a steady and consistent stream.  Since it does measure the amount of water being used it’ll make mixing fertilizers and chemicals a whole lot more accurate.  On the digital screen it’ll show how many gallons of water you’ve used.  You can purchase it for $24.95 through Plow & Hearth.

AT&T announces Sierra Wireless AirCard 890

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 05:58 PM PDT

Staying connected to the Internet is always something that many of us take for granted these days, but what happens when you do not have access to a Wi-Fi network while you’re on the run? Fret not, there are many other solutions out there, where among them would include a data card. AT&T has just announced yet another of such cards in the form of the Sierra Wireless AirCard 890 as part of its AT&T LaptopConnect device portfolio, when it will be released to business customers from May 5th onwards. This special 2-in-1 form factor is capable of supporting both PC Card and ExpressCard slots, giving customers unprecedented flexibility with durability thrown in for good measure while you remain connected on AT&T's High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2 network when available.

All in all, the AirCard 890 has been positioned to be a solution for business customers who require to remain connected in order to access email, the Internet and business applications whenever they are out of the office with nothing but a notebook in tow. Apart from that, the Sierra Wireless AirCard 890 will also grant convenient access to over 20,000 U.S. Wi-Fi hotspots from AT&T as long as you subscribe to a qualified DataConnect plan and have a Wi-Fi enabled notebook.

Interestingly enough, AT&T has thrown in an integrated GPS functionality to enable location based services, making it a snap to arrive at your intended destination without getting lost, even when you are in an unfamiliar territory. Apart from that, mobile applications such as TeleNav Track LITE and Xora GPS Locator from AT&T are also thrown into the mix, enabling enterprise customers to add tracking and location awareness of employees, helping companies be more efficient in these economically troubling times. It also helps that you can locate the closest worker to attend a service call – neat, eh (for you, not the worker, heh!)? The Sierra Wireless AirCard 890 will be available online and via AT&T business channels nationwide for $49.99 after a mail-in rebate and having agreed to a new two-year DataConnect contract of at least $35 monthly.

T-Mobile Garminfone is coming to the US

Posted: 22 Apr 2010 05:38 PM PDT

Love having convergence devices, especially cellphones that come with GPS navigation capability? Well, you’ll be stoked to know that T-Mobile USA has just announced that they will be bringing the new Garminfone to the masses on an exclusive basis. This is the first Android-powered smartphone that sports a fully integrated Garmin premium navigation experience to help you get from point A to point B without having you get lost. Touted to hit the market later this spring, the Garminfone is a sleek, full-touch 3G smartphone that boasts a large 3.5″ screen, and we can check out the rest of its specifications right after the jump.

Among the features found on the Garminfone would include :-

  • Integrated Navigation + Smartphone Experience: Garminfone delivers navigation capabilities beyond what other smartphones and standalone navigation devices provide. Customers can navigate to an address simply by clicking on it from a text message or e-mail, contact, calendar appointment, or web page. Garminfone can even remember where you are parked and navigate you back to your car. The 3-megapixel camera with autofocus automatically geotags images so you can navigate back to where your family vacation photos were taken, e-mail geo-tagged images to friends and family members, or post geo-tagged pictures on the Web for others to enjoy. Helpful Garmin travel applications such as dynamic, real-time traffic; weather local events; movie listings; and gas prices are pre-installed and easy to access and use.
  • Garmin Navigation: Driving, walking and public transportation navigation with voice and on-screen directions and automatic re-routing are deeply integrated into the smartphone features of Garminfone to simplify navigating your daily life. On-board North American maps offer fast and reliable directions — whether in or out of cell phone coverage — and multiple overlapping positioning technologies ensure Garminfone customers have one of the best location and navigation experiences a smartphone can offer. In addition, Garminfone utilizes text-to-speech technology to speak street names, and the screen automatically switches between day and night modes for easier viewing while driving.
  • Garmin Voice Studio: Garminfone is the first to feature Garmin Voice Studio, an Android application, which allows customers to record and share custom voice directions from family and friends.
  • Garminfone also includes a convenient charging window and dashboard mount, enabling customers to easily navigate and charge the phone's battery simultaneously.

Apart from that, it runs on the free and open source Android operating system that will offer a rich mobile Web experience, complete with integrated Google mobile services such as Google Search by voice, Google Maps, YouTube for entertainment while you’re on the go, access to the Android Market for fun and useful applications, and a mobile Web browser experience that boasts enhanced functions such as pinch and zoom capability and embedded location awareness. Hardware options include 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, support for Microsoft Exchange e-mail, contacts and calendar, social networking, instant messaging, a 3-megapixel autofocus camera and advanced media playback capability.
