Online Coat Rack nags you to wear your coat

Posted: 06 Jun 2010 01:00 PM PDT

As you become an adult, you no longer have your parents to tell you exactly what you should be wearing in different weather.  Thankfully, there’s the internet so that you never have to have your own common sense. Instead of always hopping online just before you leave though, you could have this Online Coat Rack.  It’ll let you know how the day is going to be, which will help you choose which coat you need to be using.

Since it doubles as a coat rack you’ll know exactly what you need as you’re wandering out the door.  No longer will you be caught in the rain with no umbrella handy.  That is unless the internet fails, which we all know absolutely doesn’t happen.  If it’s on the internet, it’s just a fact.  Sadly this coat rack is still a concept design, so it can’t be purchased just yet.

Message Messenger Bag imitates snail mail and email

Posted: 06 Jun 2010 12:00 PM PDT

We all remember snail mail, actually there are those times when you still have to use it from time to time.  Cards are still way more fun to get as snail mail than receiving some cheesy E-Card.  Well for anyone that carries mail to people for a living, now you can have a bag that looks exactly like the things it carries within.  Of course for those of you that are very addicted to your email messages, one side of the bag is made to look like the email icon we all know and love.

Then on the front of the bag it looks like an air mail envelope.  It’s supposed to be something very deep and meaningful, like a wearable metaphor or something along those lines.  I doubt most people will see it that way, but perhaps the occasional "deep" human being will respect you more for your taste in fashion accessories.  You can purchase one of these bags for $130.

Cross Spy Camera

Posted: 06 Jun 2010 11:00 AM PDT

This is one of those gadgets that you’d have to be a bit on the goth side in order for this to work.  After all, if you’re in a business type attire then a chunky black cross is going to appear just a bit on the strange side.  Which would make the gadget absolutely pointless since its whole purpose is to be stealthy and catch people in the act.

Now if you do tend to wear darker clothing, then this would work just fine.  You could catch people doing their devious acts without them ever catching on.  It takes 30 FPS videos and has 4GB of memory to store the videos on.  You can use it to blog all of the boring details of your life or even capture live sporting or theater events.  Just pick one up for $37.60 through Chinavasion.

Want a timer that will add a sense of urgency to all your tasks? This is where the $10 Bomb Timer comes in handy – don’t worry, it won’t be able to elicit feelings of tension as in the Hurt Locker, but it ought to help you speed up your tasks since it looks as though it might blow any time soon. Capable of keeping track of time for up to an hour, it ought to be perfect for those who want an interesting conversation piece for a timer. One word of advice though – we would strongly recommend you against carrying this on board all of your flights, lest you don’t mind being detained indefinitely while getting questioned from a variety of angles concerning non-existant terrorist links in your life.

Love spending time in the great outdoors, where instead of heading off to the nearest Walmart to buy a TV dinner, you prefer to catch your own food? For those with a penchant for fishing, the Carp Fishing Bite Alarm might sound to be an interesting device to have, especially during those sweltering afternoons when you doze off with your fishing rod in hand. The Carp Fishing Bite Alarm is going for $51.85 a pop, and is the perfect tool to make a lazy fisherman out of you.

Sprint offers HTC EVO 4G Stateside at last

Posted: 06 Jun 2010 05:00 AM PDT

America has recently gotten their hands on the first 3G/4G wireless phone in that part of the world, coming in the form of the HTC EVO 4G. This is clearly the latest and greatest Android-powered handset and for good reason – just read the specifications later in the post, and tell us that it ain’t so. Just before you continue reading, the HTC EVO 4G isn’t insanely expensive, although it is pretty pricey at $199.99 with a new two-year service agreement as well as a $100 mail-in rebate, where you can either choose from a new line activation or qualify for an eligible upgrade. Here’s a teaser – this is the first handset to offer a new video chat service that offers two-way voice and video calling capability without any additional cost – now how about that? Want to know more about the phone? Head on after the jump then.

Running on the Android 2.1 operating system from Google (an Android 2.2 update is in the works, so don’t worry), which allows you to access over 50,000 apps from the Android Market to complement its list of features such as :-

  • Simultaneous voice and data capability in 4G or Wi-Fi coverage areas, enabling Web surfing and more during conversation
  • Offering a new way to search with pictures instead of words, Google Goggles works with everything from books, DVDs and barcodes to landmarks, logos, artwork and wine labels
  • Superfast 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, ensuring a smooth and quick movement within phone menus
  • Two cameras – an 8.0 megapixel auto-focus camera with HD-capable video camcorder and a forward-facing 1.3 megapixel camera
  • Built-in mobile hotspot functionality allowing up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices to share the 3G or 4G experience on the go with a laptop, camera, music player, game unit, video player, or any other Wi-Fi enabled device
  • Integrated HD video capture with the ability to capture and share live video via the Qik Web site, Facebook, YouTube or Twitter
  • Ability to easily watch video with the device on an HDTV via an HDMI cable (sold separately)
  • Custom Web browser optimized for the 4.3-inch display and Sprint 4G speeds to deliver a full, no-compromise Internet experience
  • A handy kickstand built into the back, making it easy to watch videos on-the-go
  • Adobe Flash technology ensures that rich Internet content, such as embedded video and animation, are displayed the way they are meant to be seen
  • Pinch-to-zoom and automatic text reflowing provide easy Web page views

HTC also goes green with the EVO 4G since it comes iwth eco-friendly packaging, where the box and tray were designed to align with its commitment to sustainability, being 100% recyclable and being partially made from sugar cane, which is a highly renewable material. Don’t feel cheated if the in-box materials seem much less than before – it is a move to encourage users to find details online, while printed matter use certified soy inks and water-based coating. It seems that Sprint’s activation servers were overwhelmed on the day the EVO 4G launched, which could be an indicator of just how many of these handsets were flying off the shelves.

Multi-purpose Kaleidoscope Dome Projector

Posted: 05 Jun 2010 07:49 PM PDT

Brando has a brand new toy for you to play around with – we’re talking about the Multi-purpose Kaleidoscope Dome Projector which offers three different types of projection mode. Meant to offer you a soothing moment in which you can spend with yourself in your own cocoon, you can opt to project it onto a ceiling/wall, floor or use the dome case for an added effect. Each $39.90 purchase comes with colorful beads to add more pizzazz into the entire mix, where the dome case can double up as a desk light when required, albeit with all the projections within (which might end up being rather disorienting if you’re trying to snuggle up to a good book). Thanks to its free-rotation function, you are able to point it in virtually any direction of your choice. This is currently priced so cheaply since it is on a monthly promotion, otherwise expect to pay more than double for it.

Samsung and 3LCD team up for first 3LCD LED projector

Posted: 05 Jun 2010 07:17 PM PDT

Samsung and 3LCD (you know where they’re heading by the names alone) have joined forces, and this time round their collaboration has resulted in the first 3LCD LED projector in the world known as the F10M. The announcement of the Samsung F10M was made earlier this year at CES 2010, and will also hold another record by being the first LED-based projector with 1,000 lumens in the world. Offering a light life of up to over 30,000 hours as well as XGA resolution, you will be able to throw an image size range from 40″ to 300″, complete with HDMI input and PC connectivity. 3LCD’s technology offers efficient use of light, and thanks to its LED light source, the F10M is able to offer customers an extremely energy efficient projector option, while making it the brightest LED projector in the projection industry simultaneously.

Apart from its pretty impressive specifications for an LED projector, this model also comes with instant on/off functionality, which basically means it does not require any noticeable warm up time at all, letting it produce a nearly instantaneous projected image when turned on. According to Tom Grau, senior product marketing manager for Samsung Electronics Co., “Utilizing 3LCD technology in the F10M was an obvious choice. The technology advantages offered by the 3LCD architecture ensure the F10M provides customers with an incredibly bright and energy efficient projector, and when paired with an LED light source, even more amazing color and image quality.”

To get a better idea of what 3LCD’s features and technological advantages offer, they include a 3-Chip Optical Engine which is able to deliver incredibly bright, true-to-life color. Not only that, 3LCD projectors are able to offer high Color and White Light Output so images, video and text always look their very best. Without the need for a spinning color wheel to produce color, it will not suffer from “the rainbow effect” or “color break-up” that we normally see with LCD projectors. No word on pricing just yet, but it ought to hit the market pretty soon.

Toshiba to roll out new Blu-ray disc players

Posted: 05 Jun 2010 07:10 PM PDT

Blu-ray is a format that is clearly catching on, although it has yet to reach the figures of DVDs to date (which we are convinced that it will overtake given due time as more and more people take up the format), the number of Blu-ray playback devices are getting more and more common. Toshiba, who used to back the HD DVD format before it experienced an untimely demise, has since rolled out some Blu-ray players with two more models to join their ranks today. We’re talking about the BDX2500 and BDX2700 models which will be a great addition to any modern home theater setup.

Both players will sport Wi-Fi connectivity, enabling consumers to hook up to a wide range of streaming content. Thanks to BLOCKBUSTER On Demand, consumers are able to watch the latest movies right on the same day which they are released on DVD/Blu-ray without any additional monthly fee – now how about that! Just make sure you have a decent Internet connection and you’re good to go, we guess. Apart from that, instant streaming from Netflix enables Netflix members to instantly watch tens of thousands of TV episodes and movies, with many of those titles in high definition format. VUDU Movies will deliver true 1080p HD and gives viewers access to over 3,000 HD movies on demand. Movies aren’t the only form of entertainment, as the BDX2500 and BDX2700 will also cater for those who love music since both models also support the streaming of a wide array of music from Pandora internet radio. Just in case your home does not have a Wi-Fi network up and running, Toshiba has kindly thrown in a standard Ethernet connection.

Features of both models include :-

  • Full HD 1080p/24fps Blu-ray Disc playback, with standard DVD upconversion
  • Access to online content from Netflix, BLOCKBUSTER On Demand, VUDU, and Pandora internet Radio, using either wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection BDX2500 requires optional wireless adapter – sold separately; BDX2700 includes built-in Wi-Fi capability
  • HD audio support, including Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio|Essential
  • BD-Live (BD Profile 2.0) and Bonus View compatible
  • AVCHD video, HD JPEG/JPEG photo, and MP3/WMA audio file playback
  • HDMI connection with HDMI®-CEC control
  • 7.1-Channel analog audio outputs
  • USB port and SD/SDHC card slot

Blu-ray players have certainly dropped in price since they were first introduced all those years ago – with the BDX2500 and BDX2700 retailing for $179.99 and $249.99, respectively.
