Mad Catz announces TRITTON AX Pro headset for the Xbox 360 and PS3

Posted: 25 Mar 2011 11:30 AM PDT

Mad Catz, a company that carries plenty of gaming accessories across different platforms, has just announced the new TRITTON AX Pro headset that will make its way towards the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles. After all, Mad Catz knows just how important it is to have the right kind of headset if you want to pick up all the noise and sound a game has to offer while you maximize your gaming experience.

With the TRITTON AX Pro, it does not matter whether you are a serious gamer or committed audio connoisseur – it is able to offer a truly authentic Dolby Digital 5.1 audio experience. Being different compared to Dolby Headphone technology, the AX Pro will use at least 8 precision-balanced speakers (with a quartet located within each ear cup) that will accurately reproduce 5.1 surround sound without the need for the common cop out move of emulating or simulating an audio experience.

Within individual ear cups, the AX Pro will house a front speaker, a center speaker, a rear speaker and a subwoofer. It is capable of offering a full 4 speaker configuration inside each ear cup as mentioned earlier on, allowing the AX Pro to replicate a typical 5.1 home cinema installation, where it will provide gamers with a truly realistic and unparalleled audio experience.

Apart from that, your eyes too will benefit from individual backlit volume controls which are handily located on the in-line remote, letting you access them even when all the lights around you are turned off. This too, lets gamers fine-tune each channel (front, rear, center, subwoofer) at the touch of a button without having to hide controls away on the ear cup.

As for the in-line remote, those who game on another level (pro-gamers) can dial-in the exact sound field required in order to obtain a competitive advantage such as raising rear drivers levels and adjusting the bass. Your ears too won’t suffer from any kind of fatique since premium-quality ear pads come with each £149.99 purchase, delivering hours of gaming comfort for extended gaming sessions.

Griffin Powerjolt Micro for iPad

Posted: 25 Mar 2011 11:20 AM PDT

Own an iPad and do a whole lot of traveling on the road? Well, we do know that the iPad (as well as the iPad 2) sports some pretty legendary battery life, but that doesn’t mean it is able to go on forever. No sir, even these magical tablets need some juice once in a while, and this is where the Griffin Powerjolt Micro for iPad comes in.

Most of us use the cigarette lighter port in the car for something else, and plugging in a charger is more often than not the main purpose. The same applies for this nifty little gizmo, where it will turn the same cigarette lighter outlet into a more useful USB port, which carries enough voltage to charge your iPad, iPhone and iPod. Oh yeah, before you think that this is some Apple-centric blog, fret not as it can also handle other USB-compatible devices as well.

With the Griffin Powerjolt Micro for iPad in your car, you can be sure that you will never have to stop your Angry Birds session simply because your iPad is out of juice – as long as you are willing to invest £17.99 in this puppy.

iChair arrives at KickStarter

Posted: 25 Mar 2011 11:10 AM PDT

KickStarter is a pretty interesting initiative since it allows budding ideas to take off as long as enough people buy in into the idea. One of the more recent ones would be the iChair, and judging by the ‘i’ prefix in front, one would think that this has something to do with a device from Apple. Of course, such thinking is spot on, as the iChair is an integrated stand that offers hands-free viewing in either portrait or landscape mode. This is also a dual layer case for added protection, where the slider style lets one access all third party accessories in the process.

Well, so far we do know that the iChair project has 21 backers who has pledged a total of $1,030, which is still a far cry from the $15,000 goal. Good thing there are still 20 more days to go, so with nearly three weeks left on the calendar, there is a glimmer of hope.

For those of you who are wondering what the iChair is all about, why not head on there and see whether you are able to make a contribution? I’m sure the person(s) behind it would be more than happy to see their project gain traction and financial recognition among the masses. Each case, if it ever makes it into production, will include a screen protector, dust cloth, and squeegee board.

NZXT H2 midtower chassis

Posted: 25 Mar 2011 10:56 AM PDT

One computer is definitely different from another, and we all know how serious gamers are with their gaming rigs. Most of them would want something which is souped up, not to mention running all the best hardware possible – or at least, as much as they are able to afford with their budget. NXZT is a company that has pretty much experience with the gaming scene, and their latest offering is the H2, a silent midtower chassis which will drastically reduce the chaotic noise that is produced by powerful gaming PCs.

After all, those machines need their fair share of fans in order to keep all of the crazy fast graphics cards and processors inside running nice and cool. When designing the H2, one NZXT's bigger challenges was to engineer a decibel reduction solution without compromising on airflow that allowed components within to remain nice and cool via effective airflow.

In order to achieve these feats, the H2 will implement a layer of premium noise dampening foam which keeps internal noise from escaping the chassis. A magnetic fan cover that is located on the top 140mm fan will offer yet another element of silence, although you can opt to remove that if one prefers to maximize the cooling process.

Efficient airflow will be further offered thanks to a unique 3 phase fan controller which allows enthusiasts to adjust speeds at 40%, 70%, and 100% levels. The removable touch-powered fan compartments are wireless, so you will not need to open the side panel and then go through neatly managed cables that are right behind the motherboard in order to remove the fan.

With up to 8 front facing hard drives, the H2 will have a thermal edge compared to other silent solutions that are available on the market thanks to enhanced natural airflow due to the front of the case.

Other innovative features of the H2 include a hot swap capable SATA HDD Dock complete with easy access from the top of the case. The tradition from NZXT's robust chassis range continues with the H2 as it places a premium on cable management courtesy of its 25mm space behind the motherboard which paves the way for a clean build.

You will be able to pick up the H2 in black and white colors for $99.99 each.

My talk with Gallagher at CTIA Spring 2011

Posted: 25 Mar 2011 09:22 AM PDT

You’ll never know who you will meet at CTIA, and I heard that Gallagher would be in attendance, and I got some time to sit down with him during one of Sprint’s presentations.

It isn’t every day that you meet one of the top comedians of all time, and I had a mental list of questions that I wanted like to ask him. I expected Gallagher to act atrocious and treat our conversation like a big joke. This is the man who practically made a career out of the “Sledge-O-Matic”.

However, Gallagher didn’t give me the Robin Williams treatment. Since he likes to talk, I felt no reason to interrupt him and listened. I had no idea that he was once a chemistry major, and he has some interesting ideas on how to change technology. I thought that Gallagher was some celebrity guest of a big company, but he was apparently at CTIA as an attendant. His name tag read “The Great Gallagher”, and I have no idea how he got that. Usually convention nametags only print your full name, but Gallagher is one of those people that can drop either their first or last name.

Gallagher has some pretty interesting ideas on how to change the gambling industry. He also stated that a lot of big companies as well as the average consumer has no idea how cell phones work. I have to include myself in this category, and I believe that Gallagher was implying that we as a society are getting more demanding when it comes to technology but becoming dumber as how it comes about. He also was a little upset about the lack of development of the space program.

In short, don’t believe what you see about Gallagher on stage. He is quite an intelligent man, and I look forward to seeing him doing his part to change technology.

Neon Green mixes fashion and gadgets wth solar power

Posted: 25 Mar 2011 08:57 AM PDT

When it comes to companies, it is all about what type of image that you want to present. In the case of Neon Green, it would appear that they are a company that is techno-conscious, fashion-conscious, and environmentally conscious.

I first saw them about a year ago, when I went to CTIA Spring 2010. They had these weird gold naked mannequins at their display that looked like props from the movie Goldfinger. Of course, what got my attention were their products.

You an see their Lil’ Piggy Power Banks here in the photo to your right, and they are essentially solar powered keychains that serve as batteries for your mobile devices. It takes about 22-24 hours in full sunlight to get a full charge, and I’m sure they can only give your mobile device just a little charge. However, if you are in a pinch, sometimes that is all you need. These keychains will be available soon, and be in mini-USB and Apple 30-pin connector models.

In addition to this, the company also has these backpacks with larger solar panels that charge up a battery which can also power a mobile gadget. Neon Green is also famous for the Mixie Bike, a fixed gear bike that is pretty hip, too.

Head to the Neon Green site to see all their stuff as well as their catalog here, and enjoy “Soular Power”.

Two companies that specialize in cash for used cell phones

Posted: 25 Mar 2011 08:30 AM PDT

While I was at CTIA Spring 2011 in Orlando, I met two companies that essentially do the same thing: promise cash for used cellular phones.

I say promise because I have not had the chance to try them out for myself. However, if you are like me, you have some used cell phones that do nothing but take up space. You might as well put them to good use and make some cash on it and go to Gazelle or Full Circle Wireless.

Both of these companies work essentially the same way. You go to their websites and go through a process where you tell them exactly what you have as far as your gadget is concerned. The company will then send you a box with the postage or FedEx paid for, and you send them your gadget. The companies evaluate what you have, and, after a short time, they send you the money.

There are some differences between these two companies. Full Circle Wireless is clearly in it for the planet, while Gazelle is in it for the end-users. At Full Circle Wireless, the used phone is definitely being used for recycling, and they have programs that are used for charitable donations. I have to admire that Gazelle accepts more than just phones, and has a list of gadgets, even old DVDs.

So, if you have an old phone or other gadget, and you don’t want to go to eBay and the rigmarole there, Gazelle or Full Circle Wireless might be the way to go. For example, if you want to upgrade your tablet to the latest model. Check out their websites at the links above and do some shopping.

A visit with Jaymo’s Personalized Photo Products

Posted: 24 Mar 2011 05:55 PM PDT

I don’t know how important this is to you, but I think companies want us to believe that everything should be personalized and customized to you. Why do you think that HTC has that YOU ad campaign, and why some of us need to have a photo of a loved one on our Windows or mobile phone wallpaper?

I stopped by a booth for Jaymo, and it was full of personalized items. I am convinced that if Jaymo ruled the world, then everything would have a personalized picture or logo on it. You can see the Spirit collection here in the photo as proof.

I had a chance to see the PixCase, and I think it is a good idea. The PixCase is a transparent case that goes on the mobile phone, with a personalized photo as sandwhich filling. The end result is a phone with a photo or other type of picture on it, and it definitely shows that that mobile is yours. A similar idea was tried with the IaPeel. I say “tried” because I didn’t see that company this year at CTIA.

I managed to get me a sample of the PixPen, which allows the user to put their own photo on a thick pen. I think that I’m going to use a photo of my kids from my wallet for mine.

If you want to get in on this Jaymo action, feel free to head on over to the Jaymo site and order up.
