Soggy Cereal No More

Don't you love the moment when you pour your milk in the cereal and the phone rings? Aack! By the time you stop talking your milk will have taken over and you are left with a soggy pile of mush. There is no worse way to start the day.

Some smart person at Brookstone decided there should be separation of cereal and milk. Welcome to the Obol®, a 2 compartment bowl. A lower reservoir exists for liquid and the dry stuff has its own home on the other side. To mix the two simply scoop some cereal into or through the milk. And cereal isn't the only good use. Milk and cookies, soup and crackers, chips and salsa, the possibilities go on and on. Obol's textured bottom and non-slip grip make for easy handling. Kids can hold on and prevent spills! And Obol is made of BPA-free polypropylene so it is safe and easy to wash. Express your personality and pick your color – cranberry, white or green – and Obol is yours for just $19.95. Brookstone is currently offering a special – 2 Obol's for $30. So pick one up for a friend and let them end the soggy cereal blues.

Digital Pills – There's an App for That!

How many of you have a problem remembering your medication? Have you ever failed to take your entire course of antibiotics? Or worse, lied to you doctor and told him that you had? Do you constantly worry that an elderly parent, or a loved one is taking all their medications properly? For me, the answer is guilty on all counts, wouldn’t it be nice if the meds could keep track of themselves?

Well, what if they could just send a message to your doctor’s cell phone? The US Food and Drug Administration has given its approval for edible computers that can be used in numerous medical applications and health monitoring devices, including an ingestible  silicon sensor the size of a grain of sand, that can be embedded in your pills, and after being activated by stomach fluids, transmit information to a companion patch worn on your skin, the patch in return can transmit information on the type of pill and the time of ingestion to your physicians mobile device.

The type of information transmitted isn’t just limited to the pill either, other stats like body temperature, heart rate or activity levels can also be recorded, so gone are the days you can lie to your doctor and tell him about all the exercise you’re getting.

Proteus Digital Health, developers of this marvelous technology have finally received approval for the Ingestion Event Marker but how this novel technology will be used remains to be seen, also remaining to be seen is exactly what price tag digital pills will carry, and whether or not insurance companies will opt to cover them. Digital pills, I can’t help but wonder what’s next.

Netflix – Just for Kids

I know theres been a lot of changes happening over at Netflix, and some folks are fans, others… not so much. I happen to fall into the fan category. I opted to give up the rentals by mail and use only the streaming videos, along with my regular cable, and using Google TV, I have to say I am NEVER without entertainment options, but do I want my little one browsing through my line-up of gangster and horror films?

My daughter finds her way around Netflix well enough, but the new Netflix Just for Kids is the perfect platform for the younger set. ”Just for Kids” on iPad lets your kid find their favorite show or movie simply by swiping through familiar rows of their favorite characters and ”Just for Kids” also displays rows of TV shows and movies that are all organized by their genres, like sing-alongs, superheroes, school or girl power, and each title features a simple description of the plot.

In addition to iPad… Netflix “Just for Kids” is available on PCs and Macs, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Apple TV and certain Smart TVs, Blu-ray players and streaming media players. Other devices, including Android-powered tablets, are scheduled to follow this year. Its a nice service for kids, mine is gonna love it. Sign up for a free trial by visiting Netflix.com.

Doctor Who Cybernetics Science Set

Animals learn by playing, and so too, do us adults, especially back in the days when we were just wee kids. Don't you think that you learned a whole lot during your play time? Well, here is one way to figure out whether your little one has a penchant for electronics and science when he or she grows up – with the $39.99 Doctor Who Cybernetics Science Set in tow.

With the Doctor Who Cybernetics Science Set, this DIY Cyberman will require one to connect the circuits in order to perform the relevant upgrades which will range from infrared capability to object awareness and light sensitivity. Fret not if your little one is unable to figure things out for him or herself, Thinkgeek has so kindly thrown in a detailed instruction manual for your perusal. Just make sure your wee lad is aged 14 and above, and just in case you were wondering why I referred to "your little one" above, this is because most parents think that their little ones are just that – they remain little all the time in parents' eyes, don't you think so? Best to have a couple of rechargeable AA batteries handy at all times too.

Attacknids Battle Bots to the fore!

There is nothing quite like seeing robots slug it out in a messy fight with one another, and this is what the £69.99 Attacknids Battle Bots are all about. Forget about the stuff that you see on the silver screen such as Transformers and Real Steel, you can use your imagination with the Attacknids Battle Bots right in your living room itself.

The Attacknids will sport full 360º rotation and a fully synchronized 'walking' action, so that there is no need to rely on sneaky wheels, while the intuitive control system will enable you to change direction as well as tactics in a jiffy, responding in an agile manner so that you will be able to gain the upper hand in a battle at that crucial moment.

Sporting a Bolt'n'Battle weapons system alongside 'exploding' combat armor that goes flying when registering a hit, you can be sure that this is as real as it gets, without having to go back to a workshop and fix everything up thereafter. It will take three direct hits to the Battle Brain command centre in order to disable the Attacknid, signalling the victor in the process.
