Boggle Flash brings modern interpretation to classic game

Posted: 10 Sep 2010 09:06 PM PDT

Remember the game called Boggle? Well, since we’re now living in the digital age, it makes perfect sense for it to jump into the digital world as well. Known as Boggle Flash, this £24.99 purchase might just rekindle your love for word games yet again. You can forget about carrying around boards, dice or sand timers since Boggle Flash comprises of just five LCD tiles, where eahc of them will display a random letter. The whole idea would be to line up the tiles to spell out as many words as possible in under two minutes – 90 seconds, to be exact. You also need not rack your brains to keep score or argue over words as you slide, swap and shuffle simply because Boggle Flash already comes with a clever recognition software within the tiles themselves. After each round, just join the tiles together and all of your correct words (from some or all of the tiles) will be totaled to deliver a final score.

Da Vinci’s Wood Catapult Kit

Posted: 10 Sep 2010 09:01 PM PDT

Uncle Leo was one of the greatest thinkers in the history of mankind, and he has dipped his fingers in a range of disciplines including science and art. Well, you can now own a piece of Leonardo’s work in the form of the Da Vinci’s Wood Catapult Kit. Basically, it allows you to construct your very own catapult based on Da Vinci’s original plans. You need not have any previous experience when it comes to woodwork, since all of the pieces have been precut, drilled and are ready to assemble right out of the box. When primed, it is more than capable of lobbing a lump of clay for more than 14 feet, now how about that? It takes around 1 hour to assemble the entire thing, although your kid might just bug you to do it for him/her under that time frame. You will need some glue and a ruler though, so get those ready beforehand. The Da Vinci’s Wood Catapult Kit will cost you $19.99.

T-Mobile G2 offers HSPA+ speeds

Posted: 10 Sep 2010 08:50 PM PDT

The G1 smartphone from T-Mobile was the first Android-powered handset to hit the market, and it has been a few years already that we’ve seen far superior Android smartphones hit the market. Well, T-Mobile’s back better than ever with a sequel in the form of the G2 (with Google, of course), where it is capable of delivering 4G speeds to offer a far superior web browsing experience as well as tight integration with Google services. Taking advantage of T-Mobile's new HSPA+ network, it will hail from HTC and will come with a generous 3.7-inch display alongside a unique hinge design which opens up to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. T-Mobile customers will gain priority as they will get exclusive access to preorder the G2 from this month onwards.

To make matters all the more interesting, the T-Mobile G2 will deliver a powerful mobile data experience which will be tightly integrated with Google Voice (good news for those residing Stateside, so if you want to purchase it as a grey import elsewhere, good luck as it will be gimped in some ways), not to mention a slew of other Google applications such as Voice Actions from Google and Google Goggles amongst others. This is also one of the first smartphones in the market at the moment which will offer the new Voice Actions feature of Google Search, basically letting you control your handset using nothing but the power of your voice.

Google Voice’s goodness doesn’t end there, it can also automatically transcribe voicemails to text for you to read them like an e-mail or text message from their phone or online. Underneath the hood lies the speedy Snapdragon MSM7230 mobile processor at 800MHz and was specially optimized to deliver exceptional performance, superior battery life and leading edge multimedia and web browsing. Other hardware specifications include an HD video camera for crystal clear recording, high-definition (720p) video capability, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus. Are you looking forward to the G2?

LaCie releases new USB 3.0 hard drives

Posted: 10 Sep 2010 08:36 PM PDT

LaCie is the name that many people would look for when it comes to portable hard drives, and this time around the company has another two models for your consideration if you have plenty of media and work files to tote around. To sweeten the deal, LaCie has decided to throw in USB 3.0 connectivity that offers data transfer speeds that is far superior to that of USB 2.0, and it is also a good thing that more and more companies are taking up the mantle of USB 3.0 by including such connectivity into their computers and devices. The LaCie Minimus and LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 is proof that size does not matter at all, delivering the industry’s fastest transfer speeds at 5Gb/s (theoretically speaking, of course) without bearing a whole lot of bulk. The ultra–small Rikiki form factor is perfect for users who do not want to sacrifice performance for mobility, while the LaCie Minimus is more suitable for users who want extra capacity without making a compromise on work space.

Both the Rikiki and Minimus hard drives will come encased in sturdy brushed aluminum for an elegant aesthetic appeal, where the aluminum does not only look good but offers added protection against blunders and drops. It will also feature improved heat dissipation that makes sure it will not burst into a ball of flames suddenly, while being fully recyclable helps your conscience remain calm and collected if you have a heart for preserving the environment for future generations. Is it just me, or do you think that aluminum as a material is in vogue these days?

Simplicity is the new complexity, and both the Rikiki and Minimus echo that in terms of design, while marrying that to LaCie’s Software Suite to ensure seamless setup and backup support for either Mac or PC platforms. Not only that, you will also be able to enjoy another 10GB of Wuala online storage with each purchase, letting you securely store and share files online to usher in a new age of cloud computing (of sorts). The LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 will come in only one 500GB capacity at $99.99 a pop, while the LaCie Minimus has double the storage space at $129.99.
