NERF Longstrike Sniper Rifle

Posted: 05 Aug 2010 05:30 PM PDT

We’ve covered our fair share of NERF products in the past, and here’s one for those who prefer to remain in the background when they operate – we’re talking about the covert NERF Longstrike Sniper Rifle. Of course, it won’t be able to fire rounds from miles away like an actual sniper rifle, but at least you need not be too near your target to hit him/her/it. Measuring a meter long, this is the longest NERF gun to date, boasting a range of 35 feet – which is over 10 times the range of what a regular NERF pistol is able to achieve. If you happen to have your private room which is far away from everyone else’s cubicle, then it might be the perfect tool to have when you want to initiate a NERF gun fight in the office. At $49.99 a pop, it will come with a blaster, barrel extension, flip-up sight, quick-reload clip, six darts, and relevant instructions.

MIT project working on heating and cooling video game controllers

Posted: 05 Aug 2010 04:00 PM PDT

Imagine that you were using a video game controller, and it suddenly got very hot.

I’m sure all of you who have experienced the overheating Xbox 360 would probably say “Uh-oh”, but this is not a result of technical failure. You see, this video game controller can get very cold as well.

Yes, this is a little project at MIT that gives the player a chance to feel hot or cold sensations in a video game. It works by having a pair of thermoelectric surfaces that are located on either side of the controller itself.

I think we know what this could be used for. You know how most video games have an icy level that is really hard because you can slip on the ice? The controller would be very cool at that point, like you are in the arctic. You know how most video games have a “lava level” where it is also really hard because you stumble on the lava. At this point, the video game controller will get warm.

Unfortunately, I don’t know what will be the first console to receive this controller, but it could easily be the next motion controller or shaker thing for video game controllers.

Woman types emergency Instant Message with her toes

Posted: 05 Aug 2010 03:35 PM PDT

I’m not certain if this is really one of the coolest gadgets that we report on, but this is definitely one of the best demonstrations of how technology can help us out, in an unconventional way.

The story begins with Amy Windom, who had her home invaded, and was tied up to her bed by an armed man. The burglar went through her belongings and stole her car.

She was afraid that he would return, but there wasn’t really a way she could call for help. That is, until she managed to get her legs to her laptop computer. She then typed the IM message that you see in the photo with her feet.

Yes, she really typed it out with her toes. She said that the real hard part was hitting the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys to turn the computer on. She then used her toe as a mouse, but she says that she couldn’t type with her big toe. Oddly enough, my source does not explain how her toe-typing worked.

After Amy sent this message to her boyfriend, the police came. There is no word whether or not the police caught the man who did it or not.

Build your own Monopoly Game with U-Build version

Posted: 05 Aug 2010 03:01 PM PDT

We’ve reported on many a Monopoly game before, such as the version that uses Google Maps.

Hasbro has done another rework on this most famous franchise with the U-build version. Of course, they did not mess with the rules, but you know how Monopoly games can be very long? This is the best way to really have a short game.

The U-build has all the spaces from Monopoly in the form of configurable tiles so you can eliminate all of those pesky properties in the middle. For example, those stupid dark green properties near Boardwalk and Park Place that everyone lands on but no one ever buys.

Of course, you don’t know what kind of game you might end up with. Maybe you will get one that is a little too short. You will notice that there are some nice updates like stack-able houses, along with hotels, skyscrapers, and factories.

You should be able to get U-Build Monopoly for about $19.99. As far as I know, I don’t know whether Hasbro is planning any more U-Build games, but I’m trying to think of some options. For example, Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, or any other classics. I suppose we could make Battleship into a 4 x 4 grid, but that would be a quick game.
