We know that you can be king in Nerf fights at the office with yesterday’s coverage of the Nerf Raider, but today we shall look at something less potent, albeit useful in certain situations. The Nerf N-Strike Nite Finder is more of finesse than brutish barrages of foam. Retailing for £6.99 a pop, it was specially designed to work in the dark, although it would also work just as fine during the day time. Being compact, this battery-operated hand-cannon will come with a red dot light beam to assist their targeting, where all you need to do after that is line it up and fire. The light works great up to 15 feet, although the Nite Finder can shoot way further than that, hitting Whistler darts up to 35 feet. We can just imagine “Predator” moments when you and your mates have a night time Nerf fight.

For socialites who tend to host many parties throughout the year, surely a formal sit down dinner each time isn’t something that everyone looks forward to. Novatel Wireless MiFi 2372 rolling out with KDDI in Japan

Novatel Wireless has decided to launch their MiFi 2372 device With KDDI in Japan for international data roaming purposes, so frequent travelers from and to that part of the world will be able to enjoy pretty zippy Internet access no matter where they are without having to worry about super high data charges that are “offered” by their carriers back home. With the MiFi 2372 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot that is being offered by KDDI Corporation in Japan as part of a rental service for Japanese consumers and business travelers who want to remain connected when traveling overseas, this service will deliver a range of wireless rental data plans without having to be tied down to long-term contracts, be it for business or leisure purposes, playing nice with international carriers in 23 other countries.

This would make the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2372 the industry’s first Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, which is actually a spanking new category of mobile broadband which enables users put their world of content, services and connectivity all smack in the palm of their hand. The MiFi platform is capable of creating a personal cloud of high-speed Internet connectivity which can be easily shared between multiple users, not to mention up to five Wi-Fi devices including laptops, cameras, gaming devices, tablets and multimedia players. The MiFi 2372 platform will play nice with 800/850MHz, 1900MHz and 2100MHz bands for global roaming services.

It will also be compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems, and is full well capable of hitting download speeds up to 7.2 megabits per second with enhanced performance for simultaneous uploads/downloads and large file transfers. Not only that, it is extremely compact as you can see on your right and using it is a no-brainer. In addition, the MiFi 2372 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot from Novatel Wireless will come with a microSD slot for expandable memory of up to 32GB, making it sort of a portable flash drive. You can rent it for at 1,280JPY per day, which amounts to less than $15, now how about that?

Fluid Computer Systems prepares two more tablets to hit the market

The tablet market is certainly pretty interesting ever since the Apple iPad graced the scene, as interest in this particular niche market has certainly shot up by quite an impressive margin as people started getting interested in toting around a highly portable computer of sorts sans keyboard to get their Web surfing done on-the-go, not to mention the ability to play some really fun games amongst others. Well, Fluid Computer Systems has decided to join the fray by offering a couple more tablets to the scene. Needless to say, they won’t be running on the iOS platform, and neither will Google’s Android OS feature in either model. Instead, Fluid Computer Systems thinks that Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system is just the right ticket to help them move enough tablets to turn a profit. What can be found within? Well, let us take a closer look at it in the extended post.

This venture-backed tech company specializes in innovative products, and has decided to roll out their first mass-market Windows 7 PC tablet by scheduling it to be in time for a Christmas delivery. Funny that the company intends to make sure only 1,000 of the slate-style multi-touch screen computers will be released then – is it just to test the market, and do they lack confidence in their product? What we do know about the pre-Christmas tablet would be as follows – a 10.1 inch display, Wi-Fi connectivity, Flash-friendly browsing, 1GB RAM, a 160GB hard drive, an Intel Atom processor, and Bluetooth connectivity, all going for $599 a pop.

Of course, there is also a second model available, but that one will be out by the time February 2011 rolls around which means you won’t be able to find this in your Christmas stocking this year. This model, known as the Fluid Motion (as opposed to the Fluid Stream), will come with built-in 3G connectivity so that means you can go online just about anywhere you are without having to rely on a Wi-Fi hotspot. If you are interested, then you will have to fork out another Benjamin for this puppy.

Hands on the with Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

We covered the Xperia X10 when it was first announced, and I was pleased when Sony Ericsson sent me one to review.

They sent me the 3G version from AT&T, and I enjoyed using an Android phone with a 1GHz processor and 4 inch touchscreen. The screen is not as clear as the Galaxy S phone, but still looked quite good and it helped to have a 3.5mm headphone jack for decent sound.

The phone has a main menu that will slide up with a flick of a finger, and the user has access to all sort of Apps like Mediascape and Timescape.

Mediascape is one place where I was able to access all the favorite YouTube clips, Picasa photos, music, videos, and other pictures. As for Timescape, that is another grouping app that organizing Tweets, Facebook messages, emails, photos, and text messages in one place.

As for the camera, it is supposed to have “more Megapixels than any other smartphone” at 8.1. It has some interesting camera features like face detection, as well as a decent photo editor.

Of course, the most fun that I had was simply downloading Apps, such as a barcode scanner so I could download more. Also included is Bluetooth 2.0, 802.1 b/g Wi-Fi, and an expandable memory card for up to 16GB.

Check it out form AT&T if you are interested. I do recommend it as a pretty decent smartphone.

Excalibur Climbing Wall is the biggest of its type

What you are seeing here is the Excalibur at Klimcentrum Bjoeks, in the town of Groningen, The Netherlands. It has the largest climbing wall in the world, which measures at 121 feet (37 meters) with an overhang of 36 feet (11 meters).

I have to admit that it has one of the strangest shapes that I have ever seen, and I can’t help but wonder what it reminds me of. Hmmm….Anyway, it looks like a very difficult climb. I can’t tell which side looks like it would be an easier climb, as I don’t really have much experience on climbing walls.

I also hope that this climbing wall is properly anchored to the ground. Just imagine a strong Dutch wind blowing this thing over, crushing the cars in the parking lot. Try explaining that one to your auto insurance agent.

In case you were wondering how these shots were taken, my Source says they were taken by a Flickr user named Eric Kieboom using a Canon IXUS 850IS suspended from a kite. They turned out pretty well, actually.

Hey, I think I know what the shape reminds me of. A big…French Fry that I ate at McDonalds the other day. What? What did you think I was going to say?

KeyGlove makes one-handed computing a reality

Imagine how much more efficient that you could be if you could type with one hand and mouse with another? Now, let’s take that one step further with this KeyGlove that allows you to type and use the mouse with just one hand.

This is the vision of programmer Jeff Rowberg, who put 34 strategically placed contact sensors that can be pressed together to form individual letters. As for the mouse movements, there is an accelerometer for that.

It was built around an Arduino platform, and, as you can tell, it is quite a work in progress. Would you buy a glove that had this much threads coming out of it? When I saw the Peregrine MMO gaming glove for the first time, it didn’t look anything like this. It wasn’t on the market yet.

Of course, I wonder how long it would take me to learn how to type on this one-handed thing. I hope it is easier to learn than typing was, and I wonder if the accelerometer mouse is as easy to use as a regular mouse. If it is anything like using the trackpad, then I think I’ll stick to one hand on the mouse and one hand on the KeyGlove.

What Was it? – A Bringrr

On Friday we asked the question “What is it?” and we got some pretty interesting answers. Everything from flashlights (fleshlights hmm), Cigarette Lighter powered Ionizing Air Freshner, speakerphones, camera, telescope and my favourite from Tim, the Sink faucet aerator with UV germ killing capability.

However all of the above were incorrect but congrats to sch, Brad in NM, photoculteur (tho using TinEYE is tantamount to cheating ) who got it right. The pic is of a Bringrr, the “You’ve forgot your phone alarm”.

Just plug Bringrr into your car’s power port and pair it with your Bluetooth enabled phone. If you start your car and your phone isn’t with you, Bringrr’s alarm goes off and the light changes from blue to red, reminding you to get your phone. It’s that simple.
