Star Wars: The Complete Saga is now on Blu-ray Posted: 04 May 2011 12:54 PM PDT What happens when companies come up with a content vehicle that is able to tote around a whole lot of information on a single disc? Why, production houses try to cram in as much information as possible, more often than not re-releasing old stuff with slightly more updated data. I must say that George Lucas is a master of earning every single last penny from you after making you hooked on the movie franchise opium known as Star Wars. His latest money making foray is not yet another trilogy with a terrible storyline and poorly renditioned aliens, but rather, to release the entire Star Wars saga on a Blu-ray set. Aptly known as Star Wars: The Complete Saga, this 9 disc Blu-ray set (yes, you read that right – we are looking at nine discs, and hours upon hours of content!) might just overload you with a lifetime’s worth of Star Wars that you end up switching allegiance and be a Trekkie instead after that. Star Wars: The Complete Saga from Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will hit the markets this coming September 12th internationally, while those living Stateside will have to wait for at least four more days. In the 9 discs, you are able to revisit all of your favorite Star Wars moments, right from the moment when you first saw the Death Star to the transformation of Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader, and of course, your eyes will be treated to a gorgeous high definition display accompanied by pristine, 6.1 DTS Surround Sound. There are more than 40 hours of special features, highlighted by never-before-seen content which have been specially sourced from the Lucasfilm archives to keep long time fans happy. This comprehensive collection will also come with a bunch of deleted, extended and alternate scenes, new documentaries and a cross-section of the countless Star Wars spoofs that have made their way in pop culture over the course of 30 years. Would you be getting a slice of the action for yourself? At least it keeps the PSN-less PS3 active as you use it to watch those Blu-ray discs… Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. The Prism 200c Backpack can see through walls Posted: 04 May 2011 11:20 AM PDT Before I begin this posting, let me put an image in your mind that is straight out of a spy thriller. It starts with a guy like the one in the image, wearing a backpack and leaning up against a brick wall. He then takes out a cell phone and Bluetooth earpiece and looks like he is texting and talking on the phone at the same time. However, this is not the case. The man who is just chillin’ is actually a federal officer. The backpack he is wearing is actually the Prism 200c, and it is giving him a 3D view of what is behind the wall. He is using his smartphone as a display, and, on his Bluetooth headset, he is instructing his strike team their next move. It sounds like what Jack Bauer used to do on 24, but this Prism 200c is true. The 200c, developed by Cambridge Consultants, is able to use ultra-wideband signals in order to see through brick, concrete, or wood to obtain a 3-D view of the people inside from in front, to the side, and even overhead. So if you are going to raid the room, this will let you know how many people are waiting for you inside. Granted, it will not give you a 3D view of who you are going to meet. Think of it as outside-of-the-room radar. Still, for police or military operations in which room after room has to be taken, a device like this is needed to reduce surprise. The Prism 200c doesn’t seem targeted at the typical consumer. It is made for police and military organizations, so I don’t have a price. The SuperTooth Bluetooth Stereo Speaker produces 28 watts of wireless power Posted: 04 May 2011 10:58 AM PDT I got a chance to meet up with Supertooth at CTIA Spring 2011 in Orlando last month, and this was where I first encountered the Disco. I finally got a chance to try it out at home, and synced it to my phone via Bluetooth. In a matter of seconds, I was listening to 28 watts of sound total (one 12 watt subwoofer and two 8 watt stereo drivers). By the way, if you can’t figure out the Bluetooth, the Supertooth Disco comes with a cord that plugs into the headphone jack of your tablet, phone, or laptop, and you will be wired to the speaker. I cranked the dial on the front all the way to the right, and I found that the sound was loud, but not too loud. I had some children sleeping in the next room, and this did not wake them up. I have seen smaller speakers put out louder sound, and, just so you know the size of this speaker, it is about the size of your forearm. Please do not mistake my last paragraph as a bad review. The purpose of the Supertooth Disco is to be that external speaker that you need, and not meant to rock the house. It is simple to use and produces the sound that I wanted, which was just loud enough for my desk. You should be able to get the Supertooth Disco from the Supertooth store for about 119,00 €. Microsoft shows off the house of the future Posted: 04 May 2011 10:30 AM PDT About two years ago, we reported on a video of what Microsoft’s version of 2019 would look like. As I recall, it was full of giant touchscreens, and simple handhelds that can do just about anything. What you can see after the jump is another video showing what the average house of the future could look like. Not surprising, there is a place to put your mobile when you come in, like a Powermat. The difference is that this apparatus can take information off the device. It looks like tour guide did that with her watch. I’m not certain if the info from the phone or the watch ended up on the big screen before them, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did. What is interesting is how she brings up a photo of a pub, and there is an “image to image” search. This image-recognition technology can identify the backpack, the bus schedule for the route to this pub, and info on the pub itself. Of course, what really sold me on this house was a room that the guide said belonged to her daughter. Instead of wallpaper, there are moving images that must stem from projectors that I don’t see. The wall can be transformed to be about anything, and can instantly display text messages. Yes, the future is looking pretty bright indeed. I found that some of the most interesting things are that which aren’t shown, like the mirror display and the digital bulletin board. I think Microsoft is trying to make me beg for more.
