DYMO LabelManager 360D

Posted: 25 Jan 2010 02:52 PM PST

dymo2We’ve reported on DYMO’s products before, and while the LabelManager 360D may not be the LabelWriter 450 Twin Turbo, at least it’s not the Rhino 101.

DYMO’s products are made for those who just have to have a label on everything, and the LabelManager 360D is ready to work. It has a QWERTY keyboard with a 40 x 70mm screen to display two lines of text.

The 360D uses DYMO D1 labels in and 6, 9, 12, 19 mm widths, and these label cartridges simply snap conveniently in place in the back. It also has a lithium-ion battery that is the same type used in cell phones and laptops, which allows you to take the 360D anywhere for wireless work. The user doesn’t have to be dependent on AA or any kind of batteries, just an occasional recharge with the included AC cord.

The user can save up to nine different labels in its save text feature, and the 360D is very good at printing exactly what has been typed in the screen. I got a chance to try it out, and it worked very well from right out of the box. The user has the option of typing in 3 fonts and 7 text styles, as well as highlighting what he or she has written with 8 box styles or underlining.

If you need one of these for your home or office, head on over to the DYMO site and find a convenient place near you to buy them. The going price for it on Amazon is about $66.24.

Leisure Eyes Cover with built-in speakers

leisure-eyes-cover-speakers

For some reason darkness always seems to help soothe people when they’re highly stressed out.  Everyone has their ways of embracing it, be it by turning out the lights and sitting in silence or to even cover their eyes for a few minutes.  Now whether or not this eye cover is something that’ll help or annoy you further is of course a personal choice.  However, a little soft fuzzy material over your eyes and some soothing music and it could be a great way to unwind.

These eye covers attach to your head with an elastic back strap and then on the part over your eyes it uses a soft cloth.  As far as the electronics go, it has built-in nature sounds, a line-in 3.5mm jack plug and built-in speakers.  In order to keep it running it needs 2 AA batteries.  You can purchase it in grass green, aqua blue and rose pink.  To pick one up it’ll cost you $16 through Gadget Brando.

CS40 EarPollution headphones from iFrogz

Posted: 25 Jan 2010 02:25 PM PST

cs40pageI don’t know why iFrogz calls its headphones series Ear Pollution, because doesn’t that imply that it is harmful to your ears? This would be the one time that you don’t want to heed the toxic symbol on each ear, because the CS40 puts out some quality audio.

However, the CS40 Comfort Series is aptly named as the headphones are quite comfortable to wear. They are not only lightweight, but well-padded as well. The rubber cups and headband cradles the user’s head quite well, and can be used for hours without feeling any strain.

In addition to being comfortable, the CS40 is also convenient. If you look closely at the picture, you can see the the earpieces are on hinges. This allows the user fold up the ear cups and gives the headphones a more compact traveling size.

Too bad they didn’t make cushioned headphones like this back in the seventies! The CS 40 is made for a 3.5mm jack, and also comes with a longer card than most headphones.

If you long for the era of cushioned phones, and want to purchase one of these for yourself, head on over to the iFrogz site and order it for about $39.99 in a blue, white, black, pink, or red color.

Voice-Heli: Voice-controlled helicopter from Nikko

Posted: 25 Jan 2010 02:04 PM PST

nikko_voicecontrolWhile I was at CES, I had a chance to check out Interactive Toy’s Concepts Skeet Shooter and their cool fleet of toy helicopters. They had one that could be controlled with a motion-sensing joystick, but they didn’t have a voice-controlled one like this one from Nikko.

This Nikko remote controlled helicopter can be controlled with the traditional dual stick remote, but its voice command feature knows how to respond to certain vocal commands such as “start engine”, “higher”, “lower”, “hold” and “stop”.

By the way, it also comes with a sensor that knows where the ceiling is, and won’t go any higher. This is quite a relief, because I am sure that many a toy helicopter has bit the dust due to hitting a glass (or some other type of) ceiling.

I can see why the Voice-Heli was nominated for Toy of the Year 2009 in the Netherlands. Considering that it almost won that award last year, I am surprised that it is yet to be available this year.

You can see a demonstration (sort of) on the Nikko site here. The company doesn’t seem to have any sort of price or release date for this guy, which is a real shame. It certainly is a toy that I want flying around in my household.

Battery-Powered Heat Socks EX

Posted: 25 Jan 2010 01:44 PM PST

sockfetish

I’ve bought the occasional heat packet that you can jam inside of your socks to keep my feet warm, but those are a very disposable method.  I prefer to have something that I can rely on more often, which is where battery-powered socks come in.  They’ll make it possible to stay warm and all you have to do is remember to switch out the batteries.  Plus, these are oh so stylish.

This isn’t the first pair of heated socks featured here on Coolest Gadgets.   Anyone that wears this version is going to have to be highly committed to staying warm.  Instead of just having a small unit directly on the sock to adjust the heat like the other pair, this one sends a wire up the inside of your pants leg that attaches to a plastic box.  That plastic box stores the batteries and allows for you to turn on the socks as well as up the temperature.  Not only are you going to have to deal with some extra wires, these socks have an added painful aspect to your wallet.  It’ll end up costing you $265 from the Japan Trend Shop and that’s not including the $21 charge for shipping.

Weather Station Key Ring

weather-keyring

Knowing the weather might not be crucial if you live a pretty comfortable life in the city, but those who spend a whole lot of time in the great outdoors might find it to be an essential survival tool, knowing the kind of upcoming weather will greatly affect how far one travels, and you are better able to make the necessary arrangements before the big one this. The Weather Station Key Ring does just that, being close to you wherever you are.

This amazing survival tool combines time, temperature, weather forecast, humidity and moon phase onto its easy-to-read display; it also adds an alarm clock, calendar, compass and LED flashlight. A must-have for campers, hikers, or anyone who needs to know the forecast at a glance. Includes batteries and a large key carabiner.

Of course, it would be cooler to see solar-power incorporated in this $24.95 device as well since you never know when its batteries might run out of juice. If this was built to be tough, that would be even better.

Multi-Room Climate Monitor

Posted: 25 Jan 2010 04:00 AM PST

multi-room-climate-monitorFor those who feel that they absolutely have to have complete control of their surroundings (at least psychologically), the Multi-Room Climate Monitor comes into mind as part of their cause.

This system monitors temperature and air moisture in multiple rooms and warns when relative humidity is above 60% – a climate in which mold and dust mites thrive. Up to three remote indoor sensors (one included; additional sensors sold below) and the base station measure temperature and humidity in the rooms they are located. The remote sensors wirelessly transmit climate readings to the base station’s backlit 4″ sq. LCD, which flashes a warning icon to alert you to dangerous humidity levels. The system also comes with a wireless outdoor sensor that monitors the current weather and 24-hour forecast. The base station automatically synchronizes its calendar and clock with the atomic clock in Fort Collins, Colorado. Remote sensors have a 100′ range. Includes six AAA batteries and one AA battery to power the base station and sensors.

Something tells me that you will be going through those batteries pretty quickly, so why not take the more environmentally friendly route by making sure you use rechargeables such as Sanyo’s Eneloops instead? On the other hand, the $89.95 Multi-Room Climate Monitor could come in handy if you want to save your precious family heirlooms stored in rooms and the attic whenever their surrounding climate could prove destructive.

Game Boy Advance USB Drive

Posted: 24 Jan 2010 12:23 PM PST

super-mario-advance

The old Game Boy Advance cartridges don’t get used as much as before.  Now they find themselves in the backs of closets practically forgotten.  Well thankfully one person is giving those old cartridges some use once again.  Instead of jamming them into your Game Boy, you’ll be plugging these into the USB port of your computer.  Then while it’s not in use it can just hang from your keychain thanks to the built-in keychain ring.

As of now you can find these in 3 different versions.  There’s the Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, Super Mario Advance and Metroid Fusion.  All except for Super Mario come with 4GB of built-in memory.  However, Super Mario actually has 8GB.  For those worried about the brand name of their memory, these were created using Kingston memory.  The 4GB drives can be purchased for $39.99 through Etsy, whereas the 8GB  is priced at $49.99.
