Razer announces a Tron-style gaming mouse

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 05:10 PM PDT

Razer has made some gaming peripherals, most recently BlackWidow gaming keyboard. Now Razer is planning on coming out with a computer mouse that is based on Tron.

Yeah, Tron is probably going to make quite a splash with the release of Tron: Legacy this holiday season. Some of you might remember in the original 1982 film how the characters rode these light-cycles around that could somehow make a wall behind them.

This Tron-branded mouse can be used with a specific mousepad to create a light-trail on the pad itself. There is a video of it after the jump, and you can see it leave a light trail, but it doesn’t stay there for very long.

This is a good example of marketing your movie merchandise to the right audience. What geeky Tron fan wouldn’t enjoy a mouse and mousepad that resembles the light-cycles?

However, I got to give a hand to Tron, as the film certainly gave rise to geek-ness in general. From it we have a lot of better CG special effects, the word “user”, and Jeff Bridges. Personally, I think it is a little too late for a sequel for this cult-classic film, but I’m anxious to see what Disney will pull off.

Folding bike made to hold a briefcase

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 04:15 PM PDT

There was a time when I rode a bike to work every day, but I worked in a factory and not as an executive. If I was one of those guys that sat in an office and worked behind a desk, I would gladly ride this particular bike.

As you can see, this bike allows the user to put a briefcase right into the bicycle frame. Apparently, the briefcase is made of a fancy carbon fiber in order to keep the shape of the bike. I’m not certain if that increases the weight of the briefcase any.

I’m not certain what you want to put in that briefcase, but I am told the bike can actually fold up. I’m certain that the folded-up bike is too big for the briefcase.

The bike is designed by Marcos Madia, and is a finalist in the Seoul Cycle Design competition. It is still just a concept for now, but give it time, and I’m sure we’ll see a lot of businessmen on the road on bikes like these.

I might not want put a laptop because you could crash your bike and damage your laptop. Then again, if you are riding on a bike in a three-piece suit, there is a strong chance that you might get more than just a little bit of dirt on it.

DSLR turned into pinhole camera

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 10:15 AM PDT

Any photography lover can’t help but have a little bit of an appreciation for pinhole camera photography.  Now that doesn’t necessarily mean that everyone wants to own yet another camera in order to achieve the look.  If you do want to pick up that style, now it could be as simple as switching out your lens cap thanks to these SLR Pinhole Body Caps.

These work on both DSLR and SLR cameras.  They have a Nikon and a Canon version, both set at the same price.  That tiny hole has the perfect amount of balance and light diffraction, so it’s unlikely that doing this at home will have quite the same effectiveness.  Of course that all depends on how experienced you are at that sort of thing.  If you’d like to pick up the official version, you can purchase one for $50 through Photojojo.

Rugged Super Talent CKB Flash Drive

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 09:15 AM PDT

There are a great deal of flash drives that have a keychain attached to them, but they don’t really look like they can handle being beat around in your pocket with the keys.  Now this Super Talent CKB actually looks like it can handle being knocked around and even dropped.  That’s a handy item to have around, even if it is something just as simple as a flash drive.

These drives range in size from as small as 2GB clear on up to 32GB.  They’re built to be rugged and hang from your keychain.  These are water resistant, which means it could also survive when you’re trying to unlock your car door in the pouring down rain.  These come in black and silver.  You can find out where to buy by going to the Super Talent website.

Emerson’s Indoor and Outdoor Bug Zapper

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 08:26 AM PDT

All summer long I’ve had the company of moths and other flying insects inside of my home thanks to the design of my screens.  It’s a rental, so you just sort of deal with it by keeping a fly swatter handy.  I’d joked many times that we needed an indoor/outdoor bug zapper, thinking no one would ever create such a thing.  Well apparently one does exist.

This bug zapper has a rechargeable battery that will last up to 10,000 hours and when it dies you just plug it into the wall.  This would be great for tents, patios, screened in porches or anywhere else flying insects seem to sneak in.  It includes an easy to clean removable bug tray.  You can pick one of these Emerson Cordless Bug Zappers for $31.92.  You just have to pick yourself one up through Amazon.

Lawnmower is world’s fastest, zips by at 96MPH

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 06:30 AM PDT

You know that you are in for a torrid time when your lawnmower can go a whole lot faster than your motorbike. After all, Bobby Cleveland’s crazy idea of kitting out his lawnmower has become reality, where it will go about (on even ground, obviously) at a whopping 96MPH, making it the fastest lawnmower in the world, hands down. Talk about trying to get the chores done quickly! Hopefully at that kind of insane speeds, you won’t run into a stone while riding on it, or cut off several toes and mole heads in the process without realizing so. For those who would like to have one of these puppies at home, chances are you will need to have a lawn that is the same size as that of a football field just to get it up to speed.

Coat Rack Pipework Series looks pretty cool

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 06:00 AM PDT

Check out the Coat Rack from the Pipework Series (brainchild of Nick Fraser), where this white shaded coat rack certainly doesn’t look as though it would function as such at first glance. The £120.00 price point might be rather steep for its price point, but it is definitely a surefire way to start a conversation no matter how you look at it. Each purchase is made to order, so you will need to wait anywhere from two to three weeks to have it arrive at your doorsteps. Made out of powder coated copper pipe while featuring brass compression fittings and brackets, it will be able to hold up to 8 garments on its brass fittings and brackets. This is definitely a distinctive design that should open up your mind to have an inventive alternative in your living room.

Bandai announces next generation TamaTown Tama-Go by Tamagotchi

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 05:00 AM PDT

Remember the Tamagotchi craze many years back? Well, I was stll a young un back then, and I looked on in envy at all of my other friends whose parents were well off enough to purchase them multiple Tamagotchis to feed and care for, while all that I was left with was nothing but my imagination. Of course, I had put all of that behind me, but to hear of Bandai working on a new next generation TamaTown Tama-Go by Tamagotchi has whet my appetite once more. This virtual pet looks set to be back better than ever, where you have dozens of Gotchi figures to choose from, and TamaTown Tama-Go will offer kids limitless opportunities to raise and interact with the Gotchi figures at home, on the go or online at www.tamatown.com.

If you fancy picking one up, you can do so from major retailers, where the redesigned TamaTown Tama-Go will boast a new high-contrast, four gray-scale display screen, a changeable design face plate and the choice of Gotchi figure. Fan feedback has been incorporated into the Tamagotchi experience to up the ante, and in TamaTown Tama-Go, those who had a field day with the older Tamagotchi will definitely be able to roll back the years while enjoying something with their kids what they themselves used to play with before puberty hit.

Kids will be able to learn the responsibilities of being a caregiver in TamaTown Tama-Go, where they will go about nurturing and raising their own virtual pet via feeding, playing games and checking statistics of happiness, hunger and discipline – all the while with the option of connecting with other friends and their Tama-Gos. Not only that, another feature worth looking into would be the ability to “pause.” This means caregivers and friends no longer need to Tama-sit, just in case you were wondering what that is all about. Web visitors will be able to play games and nurture their Gotchi characters in the three simulated worlds of Swirly Sweet City, Forest Falls and Flower Hills Park. Sounds like a whole lot of fun to us!

TRON suits look all set for Halloween debut

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 10:10 PM PDT

You know that TRON is going to be big when it hits the cinemas, but as to whether it will be a big flop or a big success, that is another question to ponder over. The TRON suits that you see here are inspired by the upcoming movie itself (best seen in 3D, we believe), where it will boast light-sensitive reflective accents and a silicone hexagon print. Individual pieces can be purchased if you so desire, but for those who like everything as a whole can pick up the full Sam Flynn suit for $995, while Quorra’s will be a wee bit more affordable at $900. In terms of rarity, however, we might suggest you go for the latter since it has half the production run of Sam Flynn’s suit which stands at just 1,000 limited edition sets.

The Dart keeps you pets entertained

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 10:00 PM PDT

You know that dogs need both mental and physical exercise, so a tired good is a good dog. As for cats, they tend to find their own things to do whenever you’re not around, and you surely can’t walk a cat to have it shed any excessive energy which might translate to destructive behavior later on. Well, getting a toy for your cat might be a better idea to keep it occupied when you’re not around, where this automatic rotating laser light known as the Dart will feature variable speeds and timer settings, delivering up to 16 exciting play combinations. Perfect for keeping your cat distracted whenever you have other crucial stuff to attend to, and cannot afford to have any distractions. Retailing for $29.99 a pop, it will also help exercise your pets, but it is no substitute for walking your dog (yes, you can use the Dart with pooches as well). Just don’t look at the 360 degree laser straight, otherwise your retina might just burn.

Sonamba in-home monitoring system aims to encourage independent living

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 09:45 PM PDT

Growing old is not for sissies, or so I heard. After all, growing old is somewhat like going back to the womb as you have a whole lot of issues to grapple with, including losing your hearing (and mind for others), misplacing your keys and other essential items, not being able to remember names even with familiar faces, and even forgetting why you’ve just entered a particular room. Fret not seniors – you can now extend your independent living while keeping your caregivers informed and connected, courtesy of the new and revolutionary wellbeing monitor known as Sonamba.

The Sonamba is an in-home monitoring system that will come with a seven-inch touchscreen LCD display as well as integrated motion and sound sensors, complete with an emergency button and cellular connectivity — all crammed into a single sleek design which also doubles up as a digital photo frame whenever it isn’t being used actively, now how about that? After all, older folks who are retired surely don’t have that much cash to splash around as compared to their younger years (we’re talking about the norm here and not the exception), so having the Sonamba function as a digital photo frame is always a nice touch to have.

The Sonamba when placed in the senior’s home will be able to helps today’s busy caregiver remain connected to their loved ones who live alone. Caregivers will receive periodic wellbeing text message alerts based on daily activity in the senior’s home, not to mention messages composed by the seniors themselves. Seniors can continue to live independently without worrying too much about their family and caregivers. Good to know this doesn’t need Wi-Fi connectivity or high speed Internet in order to remain connected. The Sonamba will retail for $459.99 a pop with a $39 monthly subscription.

GoPro announces HD HERO 960 camera

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 09:11 PM PDT

Are you one who gets involved in plenty of hardcore and extreme sports? If so, getting a recording from your point of view isn’t something that’s easily achievable with just about any other digital camera or camcorder, and this is where the GoPro HD HERO 960 camera comes in handy. This will be an entry level model retailing for $179 a pop, where it will share some similarities to the award winning HD HERO camera. The HD HERO 960 will come with a similar professional image and sound quality which can be found on the original HD HERO camera, which incidentally has been the choice for more athletes and filmmakers than any other sports camera in the world.

It doesn’t matter whether your passion lies in outdoor sports or motorsports, jumping out of gondolas or out of airplanes, GoPro's HD HERO 960 will definitely be worth checking out. It was specially designed to be attached to your body, head, helmet, and favorite gear, making it a snap to shoot professional quality HD video of you and your friends in action. You also have a wide array of mounting accessories to choose from, ranging from chest harnesses to head straps, pole mounts to surfboard mounts make it easy to capture incredible footage which can normally be found only in professional productions.

The HD HERO 960 might be an entry level model of the original 1080p HD HERO, but that doesn’t mean it skimps on quality. It will still behold the same cutting edge video and audio capture technology, albeit at a lower resolution of 960p (1280 x 960) and 720p (1280 x 720) at 30 frames per second, as well as WVGA (848 x 480) at 60 frames per second. Apart from that, the HERO BUS expansion port has also been removed, which means there is no way you can now cram in LCD, secondary battery and additional expansion BacPacs to the device. Apart from those seemingly shortcomings, the HD HERO 960 is a full blooded GoPro camera through and through, where you will be able to bring one of these puppies home for $179.
