Touch-Sensitive iPhone Case

When will smartphones read our minds?! I don't know about you but sometimes I think "touching the screen is too much hassle." Sure it is lazy, but you know the day will come. So what happens in the meantime? A Minneapolis-based company wants to bring us closer to the future of further interaction with our phones thanks to touch.

Written about in the Fall, showed off at CES and shipping in the Summer is the Sensus™ iPhone case from Canopy. Though it looks ordinary, this is an extraordinary case. Technology of touch sensitivity makes Sensus stand out. Put the case on your iPhone 4, 4S or 5 (iPad Mini and iPod Touch g5 in the works). The back side and right edge become touch-sensitive, enabling ten touch responses. Screen space is valuable, so rather than letting buttons take up the screen use your case to log an action. Gamers get enhanced control, scrolling while reading won't take up screen space and easily zoom without mucking up the screen. There are plenty more functions as you get to know the case. How does it work? The built in touch sensors sync with a their app or with specific compatible apps as they become available. Yes, developers may visit the site to register for the development kit. No, you cannot control the phones basic features like dialing numbers. But hey, can't have it all. You won't sacrifice safety as Sensus' industrial design protects your phone TOO. Sensus is expected to retail for $59-$99. Sign up on their site to receive updates and be the first kid on the block to enjoy touch-sensitive case technology for your iOS device.

Pluck that Yolk

As I have stated before on CG I am a kitchen gadget freak! Look in my kitchen and you will find 4 cheese graters (each suited for different cheeses), 20+ cooking knives (each for different uses), plastic containers in a variety of sized (never know what you have to hold!), half dozen frying pans. You get the point. No, there is not a need for all of it. But it sure is fun! Whenever I see a new device I jump on it. And this is no exception.

Available on ThinkGeek is Pluck the $13.99 egg yolk separator. Simply crack your egg into a container and hold Pluck above the yolk. By squeezing the chamber you create suction to pull the yolk right out. Then squeeze to release the trapped yolk wherever you choose. Yolks are the main source of bad cholesterol in the egg, so Pluck helps you keep the bad stuff out and the good stuff (protein) in.  I know, you can easily crack the egg and do the 'back and forth from half shell to half shell' technique. But I end up with shell in my egg 99% of the time. Some of you may not eat eggs frequently enough for Pluck to make a difference. But for those that love cooking or baking with egg whites this device seems a perfect solution. Pluck separates into two pieces and is totally dishwasher proof. You have to love a low maintenance cooking tool. Check out Pluck for the kitchen gadget fan in your life and keep the sunny side out…so to speak.

Wellness Monitor hopes to help your health get back on track

We are nearly at the end of the first month of the new year, and it is time to take a stock check at what has happened in the past three weeks plus in your life. How's that diet coming along, in addition to the exercise regime? How about the promise you made to yourself in going to bed early so that you can rise and awake the dawn, while beating the snarling traffic on the way to work? Perhaps things have not gone on as smoothly as you would have liked, but here is a tool that might just give you that much needed impetus – the $99.95 Wellness Monitor.

Basically, the Wellness Monitor works this way – it is capable of automatically tracking down your daily movements in addition to sleep cycles so that it can determine whether you are getting the required amount of exercise and sleep. It works in a similar way as that of NASA technology which will help monitor its astronauts in space, as the Wellness Monitor is equipped with an accelerometer that monitors the intensity and duration of movements, track the number of steps taken, distance traveled, and elevation, while calculating the number of calories burned. The sensor is small enough to fit into the included wristband even as you sleep, where it will track tiny tremors in the wrist to tell just how long it took for you to fall asleep, the number of times you wake up, and length where you were actually asleep for.

All information will be sent to the manufacturer’s website sans wires thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, within a 15-foot radius, of course.

Jabra Speak 510 Series announced

Jabra intends to continue from where the Jabra Speak 410 left off, and you can say that this is going to be a pretty tall order. After all, it was the Jabra Speak 410 that propelled Jabra to an unassailable lead in the market, picking up 30% of the global market share where the USB speakerphone market segment is concerned. Well, Jabra knows the dangers of complacency and resting on its laurels, which is why they have just announced the new Jabra Speak 510 Series.

The Jabra Speak 510 series will have the mobile road warrior in mind, and will come in a couple of variants, namely the Speak 510+ and the Speak 510. Both of them will deliver greater user flexibility whether you are at home, in the workplace and on the go. The Speak 510 works as a corded speakerphone for softphones or it will fall back on Bluetooth capability where smartphones and tablets are concerned.

As for the Speak 510+, it will do away with the cords and help you move towards a wireless lifestyle, which means it will rely on Bluetooth connectivity to "talk" to compatible smartphones and tablets. Relying on a dongle to enable wireless use with softphones while carrying a 300 foot range. Not only that, both products will offer 15 hours of talk time, which is over double that of competitive products in the same segment.

The Jabra Speak 510 Series hooks up in a snap to multiple Bluetooth-enabled devices, and is more than capable of seamlessly switching back and forth between devices, making sure that you would never have to miss a single call ever, unless you are too busy occupied with something else, of course.

Well, just how how much money do you need to fork out for all of that? The Jabra Speak 510 will retail for $149.95, while those who want the Jabra Speak 510+ will have to be a bit more generous with the purse strings, by forking out $179.95, from this March onwards.

Microsoft Surface Windows 8 Pro available from February onwards

It has been quite some time in coming, but aren't you glad that all of that waiting is about to pay off when February 9 rolls around to meet you on the horizon? Basically, the fanfare surrounds the Microsoft Surface Windows 8 Pro is legit, as folks can pick up this tablet device from the mentioned date in February onwards in the United States and Canada, where dropping by all Microsoft retail stores, or taking the online route such as microsoftstore.com, in addition to Staples and Best Buy in the US and a number of locations in Canada, should be able to see you snag one Microsoft Surface Windows 8 Pro tablet for yourself.

Well, just what kind of hardware do you get underneath the hood of the Microsoft Surface Windows 8 Pro? For starters, it will come with an Intel Core i5 processor, and unlike the Surface Windows RT tablet, this puppy will be able to run Windows 8 applications without missing a beat, in addition to existing Windows 7 desktop applications to boot. The Microsoft Surface Windows 8 Pro will arrive in 64GB and 128GB models, where the former will be priced at approximately $899, although we do not yet have pricing details for the latter.

Other kinds of hardware "companions" include a Surface pen with Palm Block technology which was specially designed to work with the Surface tablet so that users are able to edit, collaborate and get things done. A little bit of news on the side though – folks will also be able to purchase Surface Windows RT in 13 additional markets worldwide in due time, which is more than double the number of markets where the Surface can be found at the moment.

If you are looking out for a new tablet, would you want to take the tried and tested route of the iPad family, or join forces with Samsung and their interesting releases such as the Galaxy Note 8.0, or settle for Microsoft’s Windows 8 environment?
