Let the Weedoo clean up that BP Oil Spill

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 03:55 PM PDT

If there is one thing I just don’t want to hear about anymore, it is that darn BP oil spill.

I’m getting tired of hearing stats like “150 million gallons and counting” and want to hear more things like “we cleaned up 20 million gallons today” or something. I don’t understand why there aren’t more things like Kevin Costner’s device being implemented. It’s enough to make me want to go down there with an oil-absorbent sponge, and maybe that is what I should be doing.

Of course, I would need a little bit more than just me. Fortunately, there are Greenboat Scientific’s Weedoo workboats. These workboats were originally designed to be green power airboats. They have rechargeable battery-driven propulsion systems, and can maneuver easily through the shallow wetlands. They can also go through the wetlands and swamps that are really getting polluted because of that aforementioned oil spill.

People can use the Weedoo to carry some serious oil-soaked weeds, surface oil, and other debris. You can even add on a conveyor, forklift, or swing-arm cutter.

Greenboat is wanting to produce a lot of Weedoos in order to help the oil spill. They could produce as much as one per day, and I can’t help but wonder why they shouldn’t all just work together and deal with this gigantic mess?

PoolSprint lets you run underwater

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 03:21 PM PDT

It has been a while since I ran for fun, and I wish I could say those days are not over. In other words, I need to run more often, otherwise my gut will grow.

If I could afford a pool, I would use this particular piece of exercise equipment called the PoolSprint, which is essentially a treadmill underwater.

Anyone who has ever ran underwater knows how difficult it is to move your legs in the drink, and this is the whole point. Sometimes exercise and other athletics is about doing things that are hard so other physical activities are easier.

For example, those basketball hoop rims that you can buy that are smaller than the usual hoop. This way, it is a lot easier to make a real basket.

I would imagine that after the PoolSprint allows the user to feel like they are running on air after a few runs in the PoolSprint.

I look at this device and wonder is it possible to do a treadmill underwater without those handles that you grab on to like a treadmill on land. Is there any reason that a PoolSprint user couldn’t just run in the shallow end of the pool and get the same type of workout?

The Infinity Iron could make it less of a chore

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 02:52 PM PDT

I don’t iron much, and yes, I know I probably should. I might iron more if I had the Infinity Iron though.

I remember when I grew up, we had an iron, and the buttons and dials never made sense to me. This iron though has a OLED display on top, which is an interesting way of controlling an iron that I haven’t heard of. Speaking of displays, this one has a water reservoir that illuminates to blue to signal the reservoir and temperature to the user.

The top half of the Infinity iron is also heat sensitive, and it will heat up when the iron feels the human hand on it. I don’t think I know of any iron that can do that. It does have the ability to turn off automatically, which is an ability that I believe a lot of irons do that.

By the way, the top has a rubberized texture that makes it better for gripping.

According to this picture here, there are four lettered options. The first is A) Coming to Life, B) Menu Bar, C) Thermostat, and D) Info. I wonder if the Info is able to tell the user how to iron his or her clothes. That would be a big help for me.

Programmable LED Traffic Signs

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 12:00 PM PDT

Instead of always switching out to a brand new sign when a speed limit changes, cities could put in these LED signs.  They’re programmable, so when changes need to be made it means just sending out a technician to reprogram it, instead of just tossing out the sign entirely.  Of course this is just a design by Alexey Chugunnikov, but some of the more progressive areas might end up liking the idea.

Where I’m at this would be completely impractical, since there’s absolutely no need to switch out signs all that often.  However, in heavily populated areas where things change more often, it could save some money.  These LED signs have a frame that protects from rain and being blacked out when the sun is overly bright.  It also has protective glass on the front of it.  You could switch what it states, make it flash or even increase the brightness of the light.  Who knows, it might end up being the next big thing in heavily populated areas.

iBallz keep your iPad safe

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 11:00 AM PDT

If you have that tendency to be a little rough on your portable gadgets, maybe they could use a little protection from you.  These iBallz can help to keep your iPad safe or even other tablet devices like the Kindle.  Plus they have an interesting look to them, instead of taking away from the style of the iPad, they just make it look a little more quirky.

The iBallz will make it so that when your iPad is dropped, instead of just crashing to the floor, it’ll just safely bounce off of the floor.  It’ll also keep it propped up a little off of the surface of the table you’re using.  Which will be nice for anyone that really doesn’t want their iPad touching sticky cafeteria tables.  You can purchase the set of 4 iBallz for $19.95.

USB Physical Therapy Instrument

Posted: 21 Jun 2010 10:37 AM PDT

If you’re in desperate need of some relief in your neck or shoulders, then maybe it’s time to give even the strange methods a try.  This USB device is pretty safe to toss in the strange category, but it might still do the trick.  It’ll help out those with chronic problems or just anyone who has a long work day and needs to relax those muscles while they’re trapped in the office.

It uses body bioelectricity emulation technology, which is using the lectrophysiology simulating traditional herbalism.  Now I have no idea what half of that means, but as long as it does the trick, who actually cares?  It obviously requires a USB port to keep it powered.   You can purchase one of these for $37 through USB Brando.  Although you should be warned that anyone with heart disease, atrial pacing or is pregnant should avoid using the massager.

Acer is a household name when it comes to computers, where they have clawed their way to reach near the pinnacle of the industry. This time round, the Taiwanese company has a new range of Aspire One netbooks that are powered by Intel’s range of Atom processors, with the Acer Aspire One AOD260 and Aspire One AO533 ready to rock and roll. These new netbooks will offer sleek new designs as well as enhanced performance for highly mobile consumers. With these new models, Acer hopes to merge style, performance, battery life and value into a single package. More on the hardware specifications are available after the jump.

With a couple of such netbooks, you can expect pretty much standard specifications (after all, how far can you stray away from the current setup imposed by Intel and Microsoft where netbooks are concerned?), including Intel Atom processors, 10.1″ WSVGA LED-backlit displays, superior Wi-Fi connectivity, integrated webcams and a large keyboards for a more comfortable typing experience. The inclusion of multi-gesture touchpads also helps you keep up with the times, what with the iPhone and other Android-powered devices boasting multitouch capability and muti-gesture performance as well. While both netbooks share selected key mobility features, they are also different when it comes to meeting various customer needs. The Aspire One AOD260 will see performance and a sophisticated design blended together to make a fashion statement, while the Aspire One AO533 offers superior battery life and ample features without breaking the bank.

Both models will not be more than an inch thick, and they also won’t break your shoulders, considering they tip the scales from 2.43 to 2.76 pounds, depending on the battery size that you decide to have it come with. With the Aspire One AOD260, it is highly portable where you can choose from a quartet of colors such as black, charcoal, pink and purple. As for the Aspire One AO533 netbook, you get 8 hours of battery life on a single charge which is more than enough to handle most long haul flights for you to get some work done in between power naps. The Acer Aspire One AOD260 will retail from $298 upwards, while the Acer Aspire One AO533 will start from $329.99.
