Gorillatorch Flare keeps things flexible Posted: 02 Aug 2010 06:30 AM PDT We know of the Gorillatorch, but here is a spanking new model known as the Gorillatorch Flare that comes across as an adjustable and flexible tripod flashlight. It will better its predecessor by delivering a powerful, smooth, and even beam thanks to its ultra-bright 100-lumen CREE LED. Perfect as a reading light, you can choose to use either its white or red LED lights, depending on the situation. Not only that, with blinking strobe modes, the Gorillatorch Flare will be the ideal companion in any emergency. With half a dozen lighting modes to choose from, you can cycle through them through a simple push of a button. To conserve battery life, you can also select from three different brightness levels for white light. Powered by a trio of AA batteries, changing batteries in the dark is a snap since they all slide in the same direction. The Gorillatorch Flare retails for $34 and comes with a 1-year limited warranty. Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. Water Pebble hopes to shorten your shower time Posted: 02 Aug 2010 06:00 AM PDT The earth might be covered in 70% of water, but that doesn’t mean we still have many clean water sources left for the future. In fact, the rapid pace of unchecked industrialization has spoilt many pockets of nature over the years, so you might want to do your best to help preserve water for the future. One of the ways to do so would be to spend less time in the shower – after all, wasting water is no fun and it will add more burden to your monthly utility bills. Enter the Water Pebble, a device that will automatically monitor the amount of water flow down the plughole as you shower. Once it is time to turn off the tap, the Water Pebble will let you know visually through its traffic-light style indicators. Green would mean start, amber is halfway, while red indicates the moment to stop. The Water Pebble is smart enough to remember its first time, using that as a benchmark and will fractionally reduce your shower time by around 7 times each time you use it so that you will inadvertently save water without knowing it. We wonder how much time is the minimum it allows for you to shower, but good thing it can be reset. The Water Pebble can be yours for £7.99. WowWee’s new robot is child’s dream come true Posted: 02 Aug 2010 05:40 AM PDT Most children would love to have a robot to do their chores, like cleaning their room. WowWee, makers of all sorts of cool toy robots and other electronics, has granted this wish with the Roboscooper, which is able to pick up things in a child’s room automatically. Granted, the items have to weigh one ounce, and it can only store what it fits in the back. It doesn’t look like it can clench its fingers, but designed for a mechanical hug. WALL-E it isn’t, but this isn’t about collecting garbage and compressing it into a cube. However, if this WowWee Roboscooper did work as well as its Pixar counterpart, then it could make kids and their parents lazy. Then we’ll just leave the robots to do the cleaning while we sit around and get fatter and fatter. I suppose it is a WALL-E world after all. The Roboscooper can do more than just pick up things. In fact, it can be reprogrammed to slap things out of the way instead of picking them up. I wonder if there is a weight limit on that. You can pre-order this particular toy/cleaning robot from WowWee now. It will ship at the end of this month, and cost about $70. It will require 6 AAA batteries for operation. Patriot Memory delivers new Inferno Series of SSDs Posted: 02 Aug 2010 05:30 AM PDT Mention Patriot Memory and chances are computer enthusiasts will be able to identify the company, as it is a global pioneer in high-performance memory, NAND flash and computer peripheral solutions. Well, they have come up with three more larger capacity SSDs which will further expand upon the award winning Inferno Series of SSDs. We’re talking about the Inferno 60GB, 120GB and 240GB drives that are build upon the earlier 100GB and 200GB capacity SSDs that make up the Inferno line. Inside each of these new offerings, you will find the SandForce SF-1200 SSD processor that makes it possible for the Inferno series to deliver incredible performance. Performance is not everything, since reliability and longevity are other issues that you should look at when choosing a new Solid State Drive, and this is where the Inferno series of SSDs deliver as well thanks to the SandForce DuraClass technology incorporated within. Capable of hitting 285MB/s read and 275MB/s write (sequential) speeds, its performance becomes all the more exceptional when you consider the 24K IOPS (write) at 4K file sizes. As a result of that, this is one SSD series that has been specially optimized for enthusiast use as a primary system boot drive if you so desire. Patriot Inferno SSDs will work in tandem with specially screened MLC NAND Flash to deliver class leading performance, where among them include a 2.5″ to 3.5″ adapter plate for easy installation into desktop computer chassis. All of them are also accompanied by a 3 year warranty for added peace of mind. With SandForce DuraClass technology, you can be sure that enhanced endurance and reliability is part of the package, delivering an average of 20x over traditional SSD controllers through innovative write technology and Wear Leveling. Pricing depends on the capacity of the SSD of your choice. If you’re building up a computer from scratch, you might want to check out the potential of the Inferno SSD range to boost its performance to the next level. Posted: 02 Aug 2010 05:15 AM PDT We have covered this technology of telepresence before, like the Anybot Telepresence Robot back at CES 2009. The purpose of telepresence tech is to make the user feel like they are having a conversation with a real person instead of a communication device. Japan’s ATR and Osaka University have developed this Telepresence robot called the Telenoid R1 Robot. As you may have noticed, this Telenoid looks very human. The reason is that it makes the interaction between a human and this mechanism as realistic as possible as the Telenoid matches the gestures of the person on the other side. How it does this, I have no idea. I would imagine that the person connected to the Telenoid would have to have a lot of wires in him to match all their gestures. Then again, if Microsoft’s Kinect can detect our movements, who is to say whether or not a webcam or some other similar device can detect the subtleties of our features. I am assuming that the gestures it transmits are all facial, as this thing does not have the arms required for the “talking with their hands” that most people use in conversation. Man, I tell you, if I walked in a room and saw this thing, I know who I’m gonna call. That would be the Ghostbusters for those who don’t get this reference. I believe this will be $8,000 when they finally get it running. Introducing Foolish Gadgets because not all gadgets are cool [ Telenoid R1 Robot copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] Related Posts: |

Panasonic HDC-SDT750 camcorder goes 3D Posted: 02 Aug 2010 05:00 AM PDT
Just what is this 3D conversion lens that we’re talking about? It is a specially designed lens which will record both right-eye and left-eye images simultaneously through its two lenses, which ends up as a video which can be viewed in 3D assuming you have the right equipment to do so. Both right and left images (each with 960 x 1080 pixels) which enter through the lenses are recorded using the side-by-side method. Not only that, the Panasonic SDT750 will come with a Time Lapse Recording feature that plays a scene such as a sunset or a blooming flower at an accelerated speed, which is also rather similar to a fast-forward. When you set the recording interval to 1 second, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute or 2 minutes, you are able to view an otherwise long recording in a reduced time period. Imagine watching a 10-minute sunset scene in approximately 10 seconds – perfect for budding video enthusiasts who want to try their hand at being more creative. Not only that, this interval recording feature also works with the 3D conversion lens attached. Apart from that, you also get a 5.1-channel audio recording sound system thanks to five microphones, letting the final video record voices from the front, right, left and back which will then be playable over a 5.1-channel home cinema system. With its Focus Microphone function, it is now possible to pick up the sounds from sources in the area in front of the camcorder, without paying attention to whether the lens is focusing on a near or distant object. Expect to bring home the Panasonic HDC-SDT750 from October onwards at a rather affordable $1,399.95 a pop, considering it is breaking new ground here. I-TEC Maverick Sport Flying Car Posted: 02 Aug 2010 04:24 AM PDT It’s nice to see flying cars like the Terrafugia Fusion, and it’s pretty clear that they are, if you will excuse the pun, getting off the ground. This is the Maverick Sport, a flying car from a Florida company known as I-TEC, as you can see, there are no folding wings on this job, but a parachute. Normally, parachutes are used for softly falling to the ground, but this is a powered parachute that brings this dune buggy vehicle up in the air. It can take off with just 300 feet of runway length at 40 miles per hour, and has a 140 horsepower Subaru engine for zero to sixty in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 90 mph. I have a video of it after the jump so you can see it for yourself. You will note that in the video, it claims that the Maverick Sport is “a flying car that flies like a car”. I am assuming that is a reference to the ease of driving/piloting the thing. My source says it can be “driven with a regular driver’s license, or flown with a sport pilot’s license”. I wouldn’t mind taking this out for an airborne spin myself. So far, I-TEC has not announced a price for this vehicle. Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. Most expensive bed in the world for the super rich Posted: 01 Aug 2010 07:16 PM PDT
Designed and created by the company's president Abdolhay Parnian, the main intention when developing this bed was not to make it the most expensive in the world, but rather, to design something which does not look like anything folks have seen before, where it is supposed to elicit a feeling of "Wow!" the moment you lay your eyes on it. The design itself took more than two years to create, while the craftsmen at Parnian Furniture took more than 8 months to create this intricate piece of fine art by hand. The end result is stunning to say the least, and yet Abdolhay is now working on a much more elaborate version for a private client. Just how expensive is it? For starters, it will retail for $38,000 a pop, with the final price tag easily touching a whopping $210,000, depending on features and materials selected. Other options that are available in case you’re feeling rather generous would be integrated iPad holders (talk about keeping up with the times, eh?), charging stations, pop-up and swivel TVs and computer monitors, hidden compartments, gold and stainless steel detailing and custom handmade mattress options with all natural materials include wool, cotton, latex and horsehair. Amazon might have been the most successful with its Kindle for sometime already, but with the iPad’s appearance, the folks over at Amazon certainly aren’t going to rest on their laurels. No sir, the company has come up with a spanking new Kindle to replace the #1 bestselling item on Amazon.com for two years running. This all-new Kindle will come with a new electronic-ink screen that will supposedly boast a 50% better contrast compared to any other e-book reader, while featuring a much sleeker design that is 21% in size without compromising on its 6″ size reading area. Storage has also doubled, allowing you to hold a whopping 3,500 books that ought to last you for quite some time. Of course, there is also an integrated Wi-Fi connection for you to download your favorite digital tomes just in case you aren’t around an area with great 3G connectivity. Some of you out there might not take too kindly to the graphite color option though, but for $189, it might just be well worth your dough. There is also another addition to the Kindle family this time now – the Kindle Wi-Fi. This will target readers who do not need the convenience of free 3G wireless connectivity, where the price has dropped to a mere $139. Of course, this would mean you will need to look out for a Wi-Fi connection if you want to download and purchase your favorite books. If you place a pre-order now, it will ship to more than 140 countries and 30 territories from August 27th onwards. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews.
