Sign of the Technological Times: Funerals Online

Watch the video here to the left and you will see a sign of the times. This is the pitch video for Funeral Resources, a service that allows you to broadcast the funeral of your loved one online.

I suppose we are getting to the point where we need a service like this, as Chris Hill, the man in the video, says: “there are many valid reasons why one would miss a funeral, such as travel costs and illness”. It would have been better if he would have just said those reasons, and not have the unnecessary captions repeating in text exactly what he is saying. I swear, it’s like watching Larry King Live.

You will notice how Chris talks about how “there are some people that you just don’t want to have there at the funeral”. You want to know what’s sick? He’s right. However, I think it would be cold comfort to give that questionable relative or friend a password so they could watch the funeral online.

Apparently, if you don’t watch the funeral live (yes, I realize that is an oxymoron), then the online footage will be available for 90 days afterward. Granted, I don’t know who would want to watch a funeral after 10 days, but the option is there.

I suppose that some would say that an online funeral is a complete lack of decorum, but let’s face it, many of us have watched a televised funeral like Princess Di or Michael Jackson. I suppose an online funeral is no different.

Playboy Belt Buck With Built-In Spy Camera

This is isn’t the first spy camera I’ve come across that’s placed inside a belt buckle, but this is definitely the most classy way to pull it off.  Nothing says elegant like a Playboy Bunny belt buckle.  Then to give it a whole new level of chic, you throw in a spy camera right at waist height.  With this belt you’ll be ready to go for your next night of expensive strippers and keep up your reputation as the local peeping tom.

It has a USB cable to come with it as well as a driver disk.  Then within the camera itself is a time setting function, a reset button, manual video recording and acoustic control recording automatically.  The video is set at 720 by 480.  Then as far as memory goes it has 16G built into the belt.  In order to purchase this belt it’ll cost you $43 from Shopkami.

Toilet of the future conserves water and space

homecore7-thumb-550x577-32329What you see there is the toilet of the future called the Home Core. Designed by Dang Jingwei, this futuristic commode was made for space conservation.

As you might be able to tell, the toilet actually comes with a sink attached. You can rotate the sink out of the way when you need to use the facilities, and then rotate it back to wash your hands when done. This toilet looks like it would be in Bruce Willis’ apartment from The Fifth Element. That movie took place in an overpopulated future where all space was conserved, so facilities like the shower and refrigerator took up the same space and could be shifted around when needed.

In addition to the space conservation, this toilet is also set up for water conservation. You know how your water goes down the drain and can get wasted? That does happen with this toilet.

In fact, the user can choose to use the sink water for flushing. So if you brush your teeth and have that water stored away, you can hit the buttons in back. There is a orange button for getting rid of the water, and green for saving it.

I sure hope we never live to see a future where everyone has to use a toilet like this. However, overpopulation and wasted water could take its toll.

Honestly, the best use of this toilet that I could think of for this present time is on an airplane. I mean, where else do you have to conserve space and water?

Mandometer scolds you to eat slower

I tend to catch a whole lot of teasing for the snail-like pace at which I tend to eat.  I don’t exactly do it to eat healthier either, I just have always eaten slowly.  However, I’m liking that there is a gadget that is meant to help people slow down their eating habits.  Mostly so I have a decent comeback.  In part though because I know eating habits can seem close to impossible to change.  With this gadget to yell at you to slow down, hopefully you can get yourself to a controlled pace.

The Mandometer was created in an outpatient treatment center for eating disorders in San Diego California.  I suppose if anyone knows how to break eating habits, it’s them.  Underneath of your plate is a scale that keeps track of those sudden drops in weight.  Within 18 months the Mandometer claims to lower your BMI by 2 percent.  Plus it’s meant to help you with long term changes instead of working like a crash diet.

Although this might seem like a silly gadget to parents that have perfected the art of parenthood, it might relieve some of the stress on new parents.  Instead of worrying about hurting your newborn baby, now you can have a small gadget to help you keep those nails trimmed.  Plus it will work clear from the infant stage to the point when they become squirming defiant toddlers.

The battery-operated nail trimmer doesn’t cut away the nails, but instead oscillates the nails away.  It has a total of 4 different pads to work with the device.  Two of them are intended for infants and then the other two are for toddlers.  It also comes in a compact case to help you keep all of the pieces together.  In order to keep it running it requires 1 AA battery.  You can purchase the kit for $25 from Zo-Li.
