The Setgo Transport Urban Bag

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 01:30 PM PST

transport_base-300x300

It seems like the more gadgets I acquire, the more I forget how to live without them for a few hours.  Which means I’m carrying around more than my poor pockets can handle.  Being female I could easily just carry a purse and stash them within the purse.  However, that doesn’t help the guys or the women that for some reason can’t or dislike carrying a purse.  Well this Setgo Transport Urban Bag has enough pockets that it’ll easily accommodate all of your small gadgets.

The front of it has an inside zip-up pocket, an inside slide in metro card and two quick access pockets for your cellphone or MP3 player.  The back has an external pocket, a large main zip-up pocket and three internal pockets.  It’s made out of durable materials that’ll ensure it doesn’t fall apart too quickly with all those gadgets stashed within it.  Of course, technically it isn’t a bag, but as long as it keeps things in place I’m sure most people are willing to overlook that part.  You can purchase the bag for $79.  For those on a budget, there’s always this route too.

The Credit Card Lightbulb for wallet-sized light

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 12:30 PM PST

cbd4_credit_card_lightbulb_cluster

If life has seemed a bit too dark for you these days, perhaps you need a little light to carry around in your wallet.  With this credit card sized object, you’ll never be trapped in the darkness again.  Just stash it in your wallet and as soon as you need a little extra light just pull out this card.  Despite being incredibly thin and small, it will emit light.

In order to activate it, you just tilt the small lightbulb into the upright position.  The rest of the card works perfectly as a stand to hold up the light.  The card is a bit thicker than your average credit card, but is elsewhere the same size.  They don’t say what kind of batteries keep this light powered, but thankfully they are at least included.  You can pick up one of these Credit Card Lightbulbs for $4.99 through Think Geek.

SM-28 Skymaster monitors weather, alerts of storms

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 11:48 AM PST

SM-28-Skymaster-handheld-weather-monitor-450x408

Those that enjoy spending a great deal of time outdoors have on many occasions probably found themselves far away from their vehicle.  In those cases if a storm hits, you’re just left to try to make your way out of the storm in any way possible.  Sometimes those conditions can be less than safe.  With watching the weather forecast or even going online and finding your town, it’s still just a general forecast.  With this Skymaster, you’d be warned ahead of time and the information would be specific to your location.

I’ve been caught in storms before when online it shows my area as cloudless without a drop of rain.  It’d be nice to have something that pulls information from exactly where you’re standing.  The Skymaster will measure the windspeed (current, avg and max), temperature with windchill, relative humidity with dewpoint, barometric pressure and altitude.  It also has an audio storm alarm.  To make it more outdoor friendly it is water resistant up to 4" and will float when dropped in the water.  Don’t worry, your hand’s heat and moisture won’t mess up any of the readings either.  You can purchase the device for $188.

OSIM uCrown 2 Soothing Head Massager with Music

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 04:30 AM PST

ucrown2No, what you see here isn’t a Halloween prop that is meant to turn you into a model conehead, but it instead is known as the OSIM uCrown 2 Soothing Head Massager with Music. The name itself is pretty self-explanatory – after a hard day at the office, all you need is a good massage from someone who doesn’t nag you to clean up after yourself, so why not let a deft machine do the job for you while pumping out your favorite soothing tunes?

OSIM uCrown is inspired by traditional head and scalp massage—and enhanced with a combination of patented air pressure technology, vibration massage, magnetic therapy, gentle heat and soothing music. A choice of programs target key acupressure points for the desired effect. Ergonomic design is close and comfortable for any size head. Adjustable fit. Includes auto-timer that lets you set your massage session at 5, 10 or 15 minutes. Portable and cordless.

Using a similar number of AA batteries as that of the original Game Boy, the OSIM uCrown 2 Soothing Head Massager with Music retails for $199.95. Know of anybody who needs a head massage each day? Would make a good back-up Mother’s Day gift for next year, methinks.

Good Nite Lite

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 04:00 AM PST

good-nite-liteBeing a parent would also make you wear another hat – that of being a zombie, since when your little one doesn’t sleep, nobody else at home gets their sleep. That’s the way things have been all the while, but with the Good Nite Lite, we hope that the situation would end up being the better for you. It basically teaches your little one the difference between night and day as long as he/she is able to recognize the difference between the Sun and the Moon. When night falls, the Moon will shine brightly to fill up the room with a gentle light, while the Sun’s rays will shine brightly when morning comes (at your preset time, of course). Measuring 6″ in diameter, the Good Nite Lite retails for $34.99 and makes for a great teaching tool for your little one, while helping regulate your own sleeping pattern to that of a normal human.

Posted: 19 Dec 2009 04:30 AM PST

cortexaSmarthome has just announced its new range of Cortexa touchscreen displays to the masses, where they will come in 8.4″ and 15″ touchscreen formats. Well, most homes these days still use traditional switches and aren’t all that smart, but it works for the majority of folks out there. For those who always want to live life on the cutting edge with the latest and greatest at their disposal, they would do well to check out what Cortexa has to offer with the recent introduction of their new touchscreen displays. Apparently, these won’t be crazy expensive, but are affordable yet offering power and performance for the home DIY enthusiast to develop a unique, reliable and complete home automation product suite.

Cortexa’s new range of touchscreens are powerful and run on fast processors to keep it ahead of the game. You get flush mounting and acrylic bezels for that artistic touch to make it blend well with your interior (for most designs, anyways), while capacitive soft-touch configurable buttons are a snap to use and press. Webcam support is also thrown in for added effect. Cortexa’s robust solid-state touchscreens will open up access to the Cortexa Home Automation Controller, and one is able to use third party web-based or Windows based applications through a simple configuration process. Don’t worry about leaving the earth habitable for the next generation – these new Cortexa touchscreens are RoHS compliant, energy-efficient and reliable enough to function for years, with an always-on service via the XPe embedded OS to help you out of tight spots.

These touchscreens are perfect for those who run web-based or Windows based applications where an in-wall location and touch access are considered to be essential. In an everyday use device such as this, one would expect the Cortexa touchscreens to deliver robust, solid-state and unwavering stable performance, which it promptly does so thanks to a low-heat, high performance fanless processor. Prices range from $1,750 to $2,550.

LaCie 2Big USB 3.0 storage solution

Posted: 19 Dec 2009 04:00 AM PST

lacie-2big

LaCie does come up with pretty decent external hard drives and portable storage solutions, especially when it comes to the careful balance of style and substance. Many LaCie devices in the past are extremely easy on the eye, desirable even, and they also don’t shortchange users when it comes to ability and capability. Their latest efforts shine through like a star in the form of the LaCie 2Big USB 3.0 storage solution, being one of the first few USB 3.0 external hard drives albeit with a twist – this model will boast RAID 0/1 storage capability, where it will be powered by Symwave's USB 3.0 standard-compliant dual SATA and RAID bridge controller, making it capable of achieving the highest throughput ever in a USB 3.0 external storage product, hence setting a new standard in the dual disk market at the same time. Depending on your storage choice, you can pick the 2Big USB 3.0 in capacities of up to 4TB, depending on your preference and needs, where each purchase will come with an award-winning backup software for both Mac and PC platforms.

While regular home users won’t find the LaCie 2Big wanting, we’re pretty sure that on paper the 2Big is also more than capable of keeping professionals happy, including those who require a large data flow as they are able to leverage and unlock the potential of the USB 3.0 interface. This is mainly a device that caters for folks who want a sizeable data flow as well as fast storage in a single device. For example, video professionals would definitely love it since the 2Big USB 3.0 is able to transfer high definition uncompressed video at speeds of up to 275MB/s burst read transfer speed, or in other cases, performing real time streaming and editing of multiple HD files simultaneously without missing a beat.

Hitting the market early next year while making a splash at CES 2010, there is still no word on pricing for the LaCie 2big USB 3.0 and all its variants, so watch this space as the CG team hits the showfloor in an effort to bring you nothing but well, the coolest.

Rē Accessory turns iPhone into a universal remote

Posted: 18 Dec 2009 06:33 PM PST

re-remotJust when you thought that the iPhone is the bee’s knees, enter another accessory that further augments that line of thinking – the Rē Accessory which will transform your iPhone into a universal remote control. Makes us wonder whether the folks at Logitech and all the other companies that roll out super expensive universal remote controls will sit up and take notice of this though, since most people already have an iPhone and to purchase another accessory that offers similar or nearly all the performance of an actual universal remote at the faraction of a price is definitely a no-brainer. You will not need any Wi-Fi to run this, as it is capable of learning IR code from existing remotes while enabling you to customize button images to suit your fancy. To sweeten the deal, the Rē Accessory can definite unlimited rooms with an unlimited number of devices, making us wonder what else the iPhone cannot do.
