I have read many times that keeping track of my expenses is always a good idea – and that means writing down exactly where every single penny went. Well, that is all nice and good, but it becomes a huge headache when there are so many receipts to get hold of and store away safely somewhere. Don’t you think that life would be a whole lot easier if you could just scan those receipts once and for all? This is where I am going with the $199 IRIScan Anywhere 3.

Being a battery‐powered and cordless portable scanner certainly has its advantages – it is able to let you capture paper documents, receipts, photos and more without having to have a computer in the vicinity. On a full charge, it is able to scan up to a 100 full letter sized pages, regardless of whether it is in color or black and white. CarBot lets you have more fun with your smartphone

Just when you thought that the only forms of entertainment on your smartphone would be movies, music and games, along ambles the CarBot from Desk Pets International of Hong Kong. CarBots, as the name suggests, is a toy that comes in the shape of a car, and have been programmed with four interactive modes, namely Drift 'n' Race mode, Battle mode for multi-player fun, Maze mode, and Personality mode. It does not matter if you are running on an iOS-powered or Android-powered smartphone, the CarBot would still be revving to have a go!

With four colors to choose from (red, blue, orange and green), you can set your CarBots to battle mode for some multi-player mayhem thanks to its built-in infrared sensors. Each CarBot can be set to A, B, or C frequency so that the control scheme would not get all wonky, and you will rely on your reflexes and wit to make clever use of the fire button so that you disable your opponent's CarBot in the process. Under Drift 'n' Race mode, you can enjoy full speed racing and drifting without having to call your insurance agent, while maze mode lets CarBots successfully navigate mazes and avoid obstacles. If things get too noisy, just set CarBots to mute. It takes around 40 minutes of charging for each CarBot to last for 25 minutes of play. The CarBots will retail for $29.99 each.

Archos 97 Carbon tablet detailed further, looks good to go

Every day, there is bound to be news of a new tablet in the pipeline, and most of the time, these would be of the Android operating system variety. After all, the iPad from Apple gets a refresh once a year or so, and Windows 8 has yet to make a splash despite the Microsoft Surface tablet looking good when it was previewed earlier this year. Having said that, the latest tablet from the Android camp would be the Archos 97 Carbon, where it will certainly turn heads thanks to the brushed aluminum casing, not to mention having it come in a relatively svelte form factor that measures just 11.5mm thin and weighing all of 620 grams.

In addition, the Archos 97 Carbon will also come with a 9.7″ IPS display at 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, letting your eyeballs enjoy a decent viewing experience along with others thanks to the amazing viewing angles that accompany the display. Not only that, there are front facing as well as back cameras thrown into the mix, allowing you to perform video calls on it while capturing precious moments that should not be forgotten on your tablet wherever you are. It will not replace a dedicated digital camera, but is ideal for moments when you want to capture something impromptu.

In terms of storage, you get 16GB of internal memory, and if that is not enough for you, you can always expand it thanks to the microSD memory card slot, although there is also the option of plugging in a USB flash drive thanks to the full-sized USB host port. I know that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was just released recently with the Google Nexus 7 tablet, but the Archos 97 Carbon is not too far behind with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, although it would be nice to hear from Archos that a Jelly Bean update is on the way. Perhaps another time, no?

Since the Archos 97 Carbon is a Google certified device, it will allow you to access the entire gamut of Google designed Android apps, regardless of whether it is to keep in contact over Gmail, Google Talk and Google+ (with multi-user video calling), planning your next trip with Google Maps, or simply to access your content on the 5GB of free cloud storage thanks to Google Drive. With an asking price of $249.99, the Archos 97 Carbon does seem to be a decent purchase.

So you are a proud owner of an iPhone, are you not? While the device is nice to look at and use, it is not exactly the most rugged smartphone out there in the market. AIRprint Fingerprint Scanner – ‘Prints’ You, from 20 Feet Away

I’m not sure I like the direction things are heading in. I can honestly say that I see the benefit in being able to know who’s who and where they are, but I have a problem with things like facial recognition. Maybe its not fair to say that, I suppose I have a problem with the way it can be used. Okay, I confess, I like it when it helps to catch the bad guy, and I hate it when it could be used to invade my privacy, and facial recognition is just one of many ways ‘Big Brother’ can keep track of you.

Check out this new AIRprint high tech fingerprint scanner, soon gone are the days where you get your little fingers inked on a stamp pad and rolled across a piece of paper (not that I have any personal knowledge of the procedure) this scanner can actually capture your digit prints without you even knowing it, from up to 20 feet away, and it’s better than facial recognition, because it has a fingerprint database to compare the prints to, and if your prints are on file, they know who you are.

Different from your average optical scanner that uses high resolution cameras to capture actual detailed images of your fingers, the AIRprint uses 2 small 1.3 megapixel cameras and a flash of light. One of the cameras catches vertical light while the other catches it horizontally and in essence, using special algorithms, creates a map of our fingerprints. To hear it be told the AIRprint scanner is meant to assist security personnel to quickly collect a fingerprint database. Once again, I’m not sure about this. How do you feel about having your fingerprints collected without your knowledge? I know that until I decide, I’m wearing my gloves.
