If you would have noticed by now, there would be a bunch of product design students attached to the University of Dundee who have to come up with a final year project, and they are busy pinging gadget and design blogs all over the place to pimp their design, hoping to gain as much accolade and bouquets as possible. Jennifer Crossley has come up with a rather interesting Music Echo concept, where she intends for this device to help those out with hearing impairments.

The Music Echo intends to help hearing impaired folks enhance their enjoyment of music, where it is able to take just about any song, vibrating the music through a range of interactive beads to clarify it further. All you need to do then is wrap those beads around your hand, or place them in your pocket, and you will experience a new dimension in music. Since it is highly portable and stylish, you will be able to wear the Music Echo in just about any situation without feeling out of place. Anyone wants to turn this into a real world product?

PlayStation Network remains down

If you’re an avid gamer, than chances are pretty good that you do own at least one of the three modern day consoles in your living room – be it a Sony PS3, a Microsoft Xbox 360 or a Nintendo Wii. For those who fall under the PS3 category, you would most probably know by now that the PlayStation Network has been down for over 20 hours already, leaving millions of gamers “in the dark” gaming-wise as they are unable to play online where their favorite games are concerned.

So far, users have gotten used to seeing error messages that state the network is “undergoing maintenance” or is “suspended”. Sony is not lost on the situation though, as they have thanked users for their patience, although did warn that the downtime could continue for another day or two. No idea on whether this is in relation to hackers group Anonymous who have been targeting the PlayStation in recent weeks, although the group did come out to say that they didn’t do it.

PlayStation Network has over 70 million users worldwide, but Sony has yet to clarify on the number of players who were affected by this outage. It seems to be a worldwide phenomenon though, as Twitter messages and blog posts that vented their frustrations at the situation have been posted from all over the world.

Playing your games online isn’t the only problem here, as other services which run on the network were also affected. Take for instance, film rental site LoveFilm who recently confirmed with the BBC that their customers are unable to stream films when using the Playstation service at the moment.

Some of the gamers are also unhappy that Sony did not bother to update gamers and the general community for so many hours, that it is more or less unacceptable in this day and age because of the many avenues available. Not only that, since it is Easter weekend this week, many people would want to stay at home and enjoy their favorite games – perhaps this is a blessing in disguise since they will now have to go out and enjoy the sunshine outdoors.

Not only that, high-profile titles such as Valve Software’s Portal 2, Warner Bros. brawler Mortal Kombat and tactical shooter and PlayStation 3 exclusive SOCOM 4 have just arrive at retail stores earlier this week, making it all the more frustrating.

Hands on with the Slim Folio Stand for the iPad 2

The last time we covered a hands-on review with a product from Belkin, it was the Conserve Valet Energy-Saving USB Charging Station. The company sent me the Slim Folio stand for the iPad 2 in advance, and it is pretty good.

I believe that a Folio case is simply a cover for an iPad that can also be used as a stand. This one doesn’t come with a keyboard, but it certainly can do a lot of angles thanks to the treads that you see in the picture.

The typing mode is pretty good for email and any chatting that you will want to do. The material made for it is very tough and form-fitting. It may not be leather, but does it really need to be? It lives up to its name as it is slim.

If there is one fault about the Slim Folio Stand, it is that it does not do portrait mode very well. Now, the Folio Stand can make your iPad stand up straight, but it seems that most of these iPad stands are made for landscape mode at many angles but only one or zero for portrait.

I don’t have any word on when the Slim Folio Stand for the iPad 2 will be out, nor a price. According to the official site, it will only be available in colors of Black/Midnight.

Chargepad wireless charger from Panasonic: Not what you might think

This is the Chargepad from Panasonic, and it is a wireless charger. We have seen wireless chargers like the Wildcharger and Powermat before, and I’m sure you probably know the drill.

You know, you put the mobile device on the pad, usually with a sleeve of some kind, or connect it with a wire, and electricity courses through it and conveniently charges it, blah blah blah. This particular one is made to charge other chargers.

Say what what? You heard me correctly, and the Chargepad is made to be compatible with two models, the QE-PL101-W and the QE-PL201-W. These are mobile devices that are meant to charge other mobile devices on the go.

If you are the type who is constantly on the go with their devices and has very little time to spend at your personal Base of Operations, I guess that having a device like this really makes sense. It also looks like this device is Qi certified, which is an industry standard of wireless charging. I believe that if Qi gets established everywhere, there will be no need for sleeves for charging mobile devices on charging pads. It looks like this is the case for these chargers here, but I don’t have confirmation of that.

For those who are interested in this, it is available in Japan for about $110-130 on June 24th.
