We really should never grow out of the swing, but they don’t make swingsets for adults. If you are looking for the thrill of the swing as an adult, you might want to check out A.J. Hackett Bungy’s Nevis Swing. This particular swing is in New Zealand, and it has a 300 meter arc with 70-meter free fall. As you can see in the attached video after the jump, it is made for canyons and cliffs. As you can see, the swing isn’t something that hangs off of a tree branch or metal pole. You don’t start it up by pumping your legs either. Instead, you have to go to this bridge and mount it at the top of its 300-meter arc. Not the traditional way of doing a swing, but it will work. I’m not certain if I would be willing to try this, but then again, I am nowhere near New Zealand. Perhaps I would give it a try, but I am sure that it isn’t free. One of them is HMZ-T1, a head-mounted wearable 3D display that promises to create an experience of watching 3D or 2D pictures on a movie theater-like virtual screen that is 750-inches on its diagonal. That is quite a boast, and I know that most wearable video glasses from other companies say that they can reproduce the experience of a normal big-screen TV. Sony plans to pack their HMZ-T1 with two 0.7-inch OLED panels with HD resolution (1,280 x 720). It will also have 5.1 surround sound speakers integrated in the unit, with a processor unit with two HDMI interfaces (input and output) for connecting televisions, consoles, or Blu-ray players. It will weigh in at 420 grams, with a size of 180 x 168 x 36 mm. The HMZ-T1 has a 45 degree horizontal viewing angle for viewing that giant screen. The HMZ-T1 plans to go on sale in Japan on November 11. As far as I know, this is the biggest electronics company that has created video glasses. Most of the video glasses that I have seen come from independent companies, like the MyVu. If the HMZ-T1 is a hit in Japan, then Sony could succeed in cornering the market in video glasses. The demonstration is courtesy of a company known as Nsquared, and it shows how a Windows 7 Mobile Phone, Kinect, and Surface can work together. As far as I know, Microsoft did not sponsor this in any way. You can see the demonstrator realizing that certain door handles are not right for a home that he is designing. He then must open up the plans on his Surface, and he can use a tablet PC to view the house in 3D. He can also use a Kinect for a virtual walkthrough. He then orders up new door handles on his tablet PC, and the image of the old door handles are magically replaced. He then takes it a step further and takes a picture of a lamp in his home and incorporates it in the virtual houseplan. After he updates the house, he manages to update the original bill of sale for the old door handles and updates it on the Surface. Then he “magically” emails the updated bill to his friend on the phone. This is really what we want, right? All of mobile and video devices working together. I hope this is our future, honestly. Yes sir, this is one model that targets those who are into rough concepting and creative brainstorming stages, where the Inkling intends to bridge the gap between paper sketching and digital drawing as it offers users at the beginning of the creative process a method to actually flesh out the ideas swimming in their heads on actual paper, while capturing those concepts digitally at the same time so that they can be further refined on a computer. This definitely beat the old school method of scanning your images onto a computer for inking and refinement later on. Heck, even Inkling enables users to develop layers in the digital file while sketching on paper using the following creative software applications – Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Autodesk Sketchbook Pro. The Inkling is definitely an interesting device for those who want to capture all impromptu creative ideas, turning them into a digital format so that they can e-mail, archive or further refine it on their computer at a later time. The Inkling digital sketch pen will consist of both hardware and software segments – where the hardware includes the pen and a wireless receiver which will help capture a likeness of the sketch while stashing it away digitally. As for the ballpoint pen from Wacom, it relies on the company’s very own pressure sensing technology (up to 1,024 levels of sensitivity) in order to detect just how hard the pen is being pressed to the paper while sketching. The pressure variations will be translated into the digital version of your drawing without missing a beat. As for the receiver, it will be clipped right to the edge of standard paper or sketchbooks, where the position can be placed at the proper position to cater for both right handed users as well as southpaws, providing them with an uninterrupted line of sight with the pen tip. Once the sketching is done, the receiver will be connected to the user’s computer via USB in order to perform a transfer of the digital files. The Wacom Inkling will retail for $199 a pop from the second half of September onwards if you are interested in expanding your artistic horizons. Also known as the Scpetre E325BV-HD, it has been touted to be the ideal companion in your living room – assuming you’re still using one of those fat, chunky CRTs or want to introduce yet another TV to your home. At least it isn’t that large so much so that it cannot fit into a cramped apartment without looking out of place. This particular Sceptre model will come in an ultra light chassis that tips the scales at just 20 pounds with its stand included, but despite that, it will not compromise on performance as it delivers a flicker and static free 31.5″ LED display in 1,366 x 768 resolution glory alongside a response time of 6.5ms – reasonable enough, but you can be sure that there are far quicker models out there in the market. At the very least it can swivel up to 30 degrees, where it can be detached at the neck and base if you so desire in order to mount it onto a wall, making it even passable as a computer monitor or digital signage if the need arises. As for connectivity, this model will sport a trio of HDMI ports, a USB port and a headphone jack, letting you to hook it up to your PS3 or notebook in a jiffy. As a child, one of the first “extreme” things that we try is the swing. Not only do we get the rush of a controlled fall, but the backwards rush as well.
