Posted: 17 Sep 2010 04:45 PM PDT Working in the dark is no fun, and while we understand that you sometimes need to get work done in bed with your partner trying to get some much needed sleep, surely a little bit of light will help? After all, this compromise won’t flood the whole room with light, just a small section of it. Being powered by USB, you can easily connect it to your notebook’s USB port and its dozen LEDs will come to life. With the ability to be rotated up to 270° to be at the perfect angle just the way you like it, you can also opt to have it run off a trio of AA batteries whenever a powered USB port is not available. At $9.99 a pop, it will cater for your basic illuminating needs, but don’t expect to perform surgery under it. Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. Altec Lansing unveils Octiv Duo (M202) dual docking and charging speaker system Posted: 17 Sep 2010 04:30 PM PDT
The Altec Lansing Octiv Duo might be big on functionality, but it is small in size, so don’t let the diminutive form factor fool you in any way. Coming in a low profile compact wedge design, the Octiv Duo will be able to find a niche for itself (no pun intended) even in limited spaces such as corners in the kitchen or on the nightstand. For couch potatoes, the presence of a full-featured remote is heaven sent, since it allows easy playlist access and control from across the room without having to leave the safety and comfort of the couch. As for the free Music Mix application, it is capable of shuffling songs from both players, enabling users to easily set the percentage of music played from each iPhone or iPod while docked. Apart from that, you will also benefit from the inclusion of a free Altec Lansing Alarm Rock app that will add a fully functioning alarm clock capability to the Octiv Duo, turning it into the ultimate multi-tasking device. No longer do you need to subject your ears to the incessant ringing of an old school alarm clock, as you can now select your favorite audio files and songs to wake up to. Expect to see the Altec Lansing Octiv Duo hit the stores from October onwards for $99.95 a pop. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Posted: 17 Sep 2010 04:25 PM PDT Visualization is always a handy way to teach new concepts and get people to reconsider their habits, which is the idea behind this Poor Little Fish Sink. As you take longer and longer to wash those hands, the fish water appears to get lower and lower. It’ll be a big reminder to shut off that water before it causes any harm. However, thankfully the fish is never actually in danger of running out of water. It has some hidden plumbing that lets the water drain a bit, up to a point. Then it’ll very slowly fill the tank up again to keep the fish safe from going into shock. Sure, people will eventually figure out that the fish is completely safe and they can wash their hands as long as they like, but it’s a nice reminder for those that are trying to remember to conserve waster. This is a concept design by Yan Lu, so right now it’s not actually up for sale. Source: Geekologie Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. Verizon Wireless to offer Samsung Galaxy Tab Posted: 17 Sep 2010 04:15 PM PDT
Make no mistake about it, the Samsung Galaxy Tab will come with a brilliant 7-inch touch screen display, running on a 1.2GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird Application processor to deliver users with a robust HTML Web browsing experience regardless of where they are (subject to battery life and Internet connectivity, of course). Not only that, since it will arrive via Verizon Wireless, it will also be accompanied by other exclusive applications such as V CAST Music with Rhapsody, V CAST Video on Demand, V CAST Song ID, VZ Navigator – stuff that normally come with smartphones. Verizon knows that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, which is why they have also thrown in games such as “Let’s Golf” and “N.O.V.A.”. The Galaxy Tab aims to make strong sales figures this holiday season, being marketed as the perfect traveling companion where one is able to download a book to the Kindle eReader, or tune in to Slacker Radio for a different kind of listening experience with more than 100 radio stations to choose from, or even view a movie thanks to its generous display which works much better than a regular smartphone display. The mobile multimedia experience is further enhanced thanks to full support for Adobe Flash 10.1. Apart from that, you get a 3-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera, where the latter is used for video chat purposes. 2GB of internal memory can be expanded via a microSD memory card slot, while Wi-Fi connectivity helps you stay connected to the Internet whenever there is no 3G signal. No word on pricing, but we hope the future weeks will shed more light on this. Aquatina Collapisble Water Bottle Posted: 17 Sep 2010 04:14 PM PDT Wandering around at fairs and festivals in the August heat can be an exhausting and a very dehydrating experience. Usually, by the time I get my hands on an overpriced bottle of water it seems like those numerous water fountains I had walked past just disappear. Instead of having to buy a bottle of water every single time you need one, you could just pick up this little bottle. It completely collapses, so it won’t be so obnoxious to carry around. If you’re out hiking you can fill it up before you leave and once you’ve polished off the water it just slips into your pocket. It’s BPA and PET free, so it’s safe to use time and time again. The bottle holds 500ml and can collapse down to 30% of its size. When he was selling just the prototypes they were selling like crazy at about $8 a piece. These are now in the production phase and expected to hit retailers sometime this month. Source: GeekyGadgets Check out the Coolest Gadgets 2008 Gift Guides, Christmas shopping made easy. Posted: 17 Sep 2010 03:21 PM PDT I don’t know how many times I’ve gotten my latpop all set up and ran the cord behind a hotel desk only to bump the magnetic connector and watch the cord fall down behind the desk. Since this doesn’t use an adhesive, you can use it in multiple ways and when you need it somewhere else you can pop it off of the surface without causing any damage to that spot. This can hold keys, your pens and any cords you’re concerned may fall down into a dark crevice the second you unhook it. It is even a tight enough clamp that you can hold single pieces of paper. Since it does use a suction cup you’ll only be able to use it on a smooth and flat surface. These come in mixed colors, so you don’t actually get to pick a color preference. You can buy them individually for $4.95 through Dream Farm. Source: Bookofjoe Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news.
