Roqbot – Say Farewell to the Jukebox?

Posted: 16 Jun 2012 08:05 AM PDT

Does anyone out there fondly remember the good old days? When you could walk into a bar or diner and for a single quarter pick a few songs you’d like to listen to while hanging out? I remember knowing all the number letter combinations to my favorite songs by heart. Ah the trouble I could get into when someone played D-20…

Well, if high tech has it’s way, which it usually does, Roqbot will change the face of customer guided music content at many venues around the globe. Forget the good old Jukebox… patrons at Roqbot locations can just use their iPhone or Android music app to check in, find out what’s already playing, request songs, vote on the queue, and see the venue’s specials. Ultimately, customers will be choosing the music experience at that location.

Old fashioned jukeboxes take up a lot of space, and I guess by today’s standards they have a pretty limited selection, and maybe it does leave the smartphone generation without the personalized, mobile experience they expect. With Roqbot, users can easily pick out the songs they want to hear while out at bars, clubs, restaurants, or stores, right from their smartphones. Is there anything left that we eventually won’t be needing smartphones for?

Roqbot is also announcing the new Roqbot Mix Machine, which melds both customer and venue preferences to create custom playlists for businesses.  No more Muzak, business owners will actually know exactly what their customers want to hear and be able to provide the atmosphere they want. For folks that are hoping to have a Roqbot venue in their area, the new Jukebox Reborn campaign lets everybody suggest Roqbot to their favorite local businesses via Facebook. So go ahead and party on guys, just don’t play  D-20… I’m not sure I could handle it anymore.

Skype 5.8 for Mac announced

Posted: 16 Jun 2012 05:30 AM PDT

So, you think that your Mac is the next best thing since sliced bread, at least where the world of computing is concerned? Good news then, with the latest word on the Skype 5.8 for Mac’s release, as this new version of Skype will help send your contact list to the fat house to lose some weight, while making video calls with other mobile users in addition to Group Screen Sharing have just gotten an experience upgrade.

Skype 5.8 for Mac was launched recently, and with this particular update, it is said that the overall usability of the Skype for Mac client has been increased, in addition to the folks over at Skype rolling out a bunch of new features that we will look at in closer detail after the jump.

Tony Bates, President of the Skype division of Microsoft, said, “You’ve been very vocal with your thoughts about the revamped full-screen user interface we introduced in Skype 5.0 and we’ve been listening intently. For this reason, we’re excited to announce the return of the slim contact list that so many of you have been requesting. Now you can reposition and resize your contact list however you like. We believe this change will simplify your experience.”

Apart from that, Skype video calls has also received an improvement – at least in Skype’s eyes, so you might want to do your part and confirm what they have just shared, otherwise the software engineers might feel that all of their hard work has gone down the drain. Imagine talking with someone who is using Skype for iPhone, Skype for iPad or Skype for Android, and that person changes the rotation of their mobile device from portrait to landscape (or vice versa), Skype for Mac is smart enough to detect this change, and it will automatically re-orient the video call. If that is not smart, I am not quite sure what to call it.

Screen Sharing has also been improved, where you are now able to share your desktop over a call, or simply to show friends and family your photos. Skype Premium subscribers will also enable Skype 5.8 for Mac to simultaneously display your live video alongside your photos, allowing your mates and family members to view what you are seeing, and you can check out their reactions in near real-time speed.

Not only that, you can now also open chats in separate windows, keeping track of what’s going on with multiple contacts simultaneously, making the latent multi-tasker in you a very, very happy person. Have you downloaded and installed Skype 5.8 for Mac already?

Pyle waterproof MP3 player

Posted: 16 Jun 2012 05:00 AM PDT

For those of you who love to exercise, just what is your favorite mode? Is it swimming, or do you prefer running all over a court, chasing down a ball in a racquet game? If that is your sport of choice, then you might want to have some music to keep you company. However, for others, we prefer a non-impact sport – and that is made possible if you swim. However, how are you going to listen to music when you swim, unless you have a pair of waterproof headphones as well as a waterproof MP3 player?

This is where the Pyle waterproof MP3 player comes in handy, carrying 4GB of internal memory alongside a pair of waterproof wrap-around earbuds that caters for musical enjoyment just about anytime and anywhere you want to. Just how much storage space does 4GB of storage space translate to in terms of musical representation of the digital kind? We are talking about around 1,000 songs on average in MP3/WMA formats, and the USB 2.0 cable that you use to connect this to a computer is the same cable that will not only transfer data, it will also help juice up the device.

Waterproof up to 3 meters, this is not the MP3 player you carry to go diving. A full battery charge offers up to seven hours of play time, and it will come in only one color – blue, retailing for $59.99 a pop.
