Rechargeable Speakers with a Twist Posted: 26 Sep 2012 01:20 PM PDT If memory serves I was gifted my first pair of portable speakers. And boy have I used the heck out of them. I never thought of all the uses prior to the kind gift: tunes at the desk or in the kitchen, watching movies on the tablet or movie. And boy, were they a life saver on the road. No road warrior should be without a set. But toting batteries with you is inconvenient. iHome, makers of various a/v products, added a couple twists to the portable speaker concept that is worth a look. The iHM62, $49.96 on Amazon, brings practicality and fun to the world of portable speakers. These collapsible speakers come with a 2 in 1 cable enabling charge from a USB device and output via standard 3.5mm audio plug. The lithium ion battery will get you 2 hours of playback – enough to typically get you back to a power source. The vacuum bass design gives hearty volume and bass too. But the fun angle of these speakers is the fact they change color – green, red, blue, yellow. Single color and color fade modes also exist if you are not in the mood for changing color. With the collapsible, handheld design and a carry pouch the iHM62 travels well too. You know you need portable speakers, why not make them rechargeable? And add a little color to your life at the same time. [ Rechargeable Speakers with a Twist copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
Posted: 26 Sep 2012 01:00 PM PDT Launched at the end of last year by, NeuroSky – makers of Neurowear – was the Necomimi mind controlled cat ears. Distribution to the US began this summer. And as my Coolest Gadget writing friend Edwin said "…it would have been nice to see a mentally controlled tail appendage to go along with the pair of ears." Good call Edwin! NeuroSky recently released a video on their latest project, Shippo, the mind controlled tail. Based on NeuroSky's ThinkGear technology, user's brainwaves are measured by a sensor which passes signals to the tail device. When relaxed it moves "soft and slow" and if concentrating it moves "hard and fast." As you'll see in the video – happiness apparently takes concentration. Wish I got that excited about flowers. Like with the ears you can tag yourself and your mood on Foursquare as you go. The company made a splash in the cosplay world with the Necomimi and although only in development, the Shippo proves to do the same. Stay tuned for launch details!

Bacon Bubbles – a Doggie Delight Posted: 26 Sep 2012 09:05 AM PDT Dogs are easily amused. But face it, they do require constant attention. They always want to be in the action, but frankly it can get exhausting. So why not combine two canine loves and help keep your pooch entertained? If you have not had the pleasure of seeing dogs playing with bubbles, do yourself a favor and YouTube it. Dogs go bonkers for bubbles. They chase them, pop them, pounce on them and even just watch them. Another dog love is bacon. No doubt about it. Fido will wait at your feet all day if he knows bacon is being cooked. Bubbletastic – purveyors of everything bubble – combined these two canine loves. The Bubbletastic Bacon Bubble Machine will entertain your dog for hours on end. Powered by 6 AA batteries, the machine cranks out bubbles of all sizes for hours. Combine the machine with bacon scented bubble solution and you have a perfect pairing for pooch entertainment. The solution is 100% non toxic and tear free so pets or kids are safe. And Bubbletastic combined the dog bubble machine and four 8oz bottles of bacon bubbles into a bundle for just $39.95 on Amazon. So give yourself a break from entertaining your four legged friend and let bacon bubbles take over. [ Bacon Bubbles – a Doggie Delight copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
Vinyl Forever rolls back the years Posted: 26 Sep 2012 06:30 AM PDT So you've got clean, digital music playing on your smartphone as you perform that daily pilgrimage, nay, commute to work. Ever wondered what kind of warmth that vinyl delivers to music? You might want to check out just how your grandparents' ears experienced the bands and singers of their day with the £19.99 Vinyl Forever. Like they say, it is all about the crackle, and we aren't talking about cereal here, sonny. Assuming you can unearth your parents or grandparents' collection of old LPs around, it would do them justice to wipe the dust off them and introduce them to the 21st century. Basically, the Vinyl Forever is a nifty little gadget which will connect your record player to your computer. Once done, just make sure you follow the easy-to-understand step-by-step instructions, and you're good to go. Vinyl Forever will convert each track of the LP to an MP3 format, save it to your computer, and you're done. Heck, there is also a headphone socket for you to listen in as the records play. Posted: 26 Sep 2012 06:00 AM PDT If there is one thing about the Boy Scouts that we should follow, it would be their motto of being prepared at all times. Pretty good advice, especially when you consider how you can never quite tell just when something might go wrong along the way. Having said that, here is a tool that you might want to carry around with you wherever you go since you do not know when Murphy might rear his ugly head and strike – and I am referring to the $9.99 Micro Light Smartphone Pack. The Micro Light Smartphone Pack is a dual wield light that comes complete with a pair of microtools for smartphone users. Each set will also be accompanied by a smartphone stand and cleaner, offering you a flashlight for each hand. After all, you cannot tell just when disaster will strike, but there is one thing you will need to keep in mind – make sure there are spare CR1616 batteries around the home which can be easily accessible as the batteries on this thing might just die out during the most inopportune of moments. Netgear introduces new streaming players Posted: 26 Sep 2012 05:30 AM PDT Most homes in developed countries these days come with not only any Internet connection, but rather, a speedy one at that. Having said that, the way we consume media has also changed rather dramatically, no longer do we rent DVDs from a store or a kiosk, but rather, we prefer to just stream whatever we want to watch right there and then onto the TV itself. Not only that, it has been possible for a fair number of years now to be able to record what we do not have the time to watch for consumption later on. Well, Netgear has introduced a trio of new streaming players to the masses, where all of them offer features such as 1080p HD, built-in WiFi, Intel WiDi, access to personal media and hundreds of popular streaming channels including Netflix, Hulu Plus, Vudu and many others. All three of the new Netgear streaming players fall under the NeoTV name, where one unique point of these new streaming players would be the fact that they are one of the first few in the market to support the HTML 5 standard, a standard which is rapidly being adopted by content providers as the ideal method for streaming entertainment into homes. You will find in the new NeoTV Streaming Players a widespread use of HTML 5, HLS, and digital rights management tools like Microsoft PlayReady in order to provide access to hundreds of HD streaming channels in addition to a variety of entertainment features, where you as the end user or consumer will be able to enjoy an outstanding home theater experience. If you have wanted to get a smart TV but have yet to make the upgrade, then fret not – the new Netgear streaming players will be able to get the job done just as well for a presumably far more affordable price. Not only that, if you are not satisfied with the content availability or ease-of-use of your smart TV, NeoTV will be able to broaden your access to content and features apps which are capable of transforming smartphones into remote control devices, making it a snap to find and play content. The streaming players are the NeoTV (NTV300), NeoTV PRO (NTV300S) and NeoTV MAX (NTV300SL), playing nice with Netflix, Vudu, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Best Buy CinemaNow, Pandora, Rhapsody and many other channels. The whole Netgear NeoTV Streaming Player range is already in the US, where the NeoTV Streaming Player (NTV300), NeoTV PRO Streaming Player (NTV300S) , and the NeoTV MAX Streaming Player (NTV300SL) will retail for $49.99, $59.99, and $69.99, respectively. G-Shock gets the Eric Haze touch Posted: 26 Sep 2012 05:00 AM PDT For one and a half decades, both G-Shock as well as world-renowned graphic artist Eric Haze have come together to work on numerous projects, where among them include a quartet of highly coveted timepieces. In order to parade the fact that G-Shock has been around for 30 years in the market already, both G-Shock and Eric Haze have joined forces yet again in order to come up with a unique G-Shock timepiece which is a testament to the close partnership that exists between Haze and G-Shock. Eric is an old hand at designing G-Shock timepieces over the years, and he also had the honor to work on G-Shock’s 25th Anniversary logo. Five years down the road, Eric also has the honor and distinct privilege to do so yet again for the 30th Anniversary of G-Shock. The logo itself is engraved on the case back of the GA110EH-8A commemorative watch, where Eric has used reinvigorating colors from previous Haze models, ensuring that the 30th Anniversary watch will come with an iridescent gray finish accompanied by red accents, so that his signature star icon logo will be able to pop off of the watchband. This particular multi-colored design treatment will continue throughout on the dial with elements of red, black and white, further enhancing the distinct 3-dimensional effect of the layered dial. Eric Haze said, “This collaboration speaks highly of the modern marriage of design and product, which treats premium collectable accessories as part of everyday fashion and iconography. The 30th Anniversary marks a quantum leap for Casio since the 25th Anniversary five years ago, with G-Shock’s ever-growing impact on the watch design and fashion worlds. My projects with G-Shock over the years have played a big part in my own history too, so this celebration has special meaning for me personally and professionally.” The GA110EH-8A is one tough cookie to live up to its testament, boasting shock and magnetic resistance, 200M water resistance, auto LED light, world time (29TZ/48Citites+UTC), 4 daily alarms with 1 snooze, 1/1000th second stopwatch (100hr.) with speed indicator , countdown timer, and 12/24 hour formats. It will retail for $150 a pop if you are interested. Press Release |
Paparazzo: iPhone Flash-tastic for both Pics and Video Posted: 26 Sep 2012 04:54 AM PDT The iPhone is far from perfect, but I have to admit its a pretty handy tool. I remember not so long ago that I often missed out on pictures or video of a whole host of things, from my daughters first steps, to an amazing bar fight and what to this day, I swear was an alien abduction. I simply didnt have a camera with me. Now that I have an iPhone I am prepared. I just wish the flash was a little more, well, professional. Check out the Paparazzo concept, designed with fun in mind, the Paparazzo was meant to pick up where your stand alone iPhone leaves off. With a retro look and feel this flash accessory is easy to use and will give you professional results not only in your front and rear facing picture taking, but in your video shots as well. With a 300 Lumen LED, you can even adjust the light for both your photos and your videos from zero to full brightness, using only what you need and avoiding dreaded flash washout (ever have an iPhone pic where your intended has no discernible nose?) simply dial the light up or down for your photo or video from zero to full bright and don’t worry about killing your battery, the Paparazzo packs its own. Yes, the Paparazzo can be used with almost any standard tripod and it has three modes dedicated to photo, video, or brightness adjustments which can be easily selected with the push of a button. Developers are working on an integrated app and one that is compatible with the iPhone 5. It’s just a concept for now, but if you like the idea you need to let them know at paparazzolight.com. You can count me in, just for the movie light alone. |
iRobot Looj 330 – Don’t Drag the Ladder Posted: 26 Sep 2012 04:50 AM PDT We’ve covered the Looj before, the first time it seems we thought it was a bit of a novelty item. Then it was redesigned and it looked as though the Looj might actually emerge as a pretty nifty tool. Well, the folks over at iRobot stuck with it and with the last update the Looj 330 is simply smarter and better than ever before, so forget dragging the ladder around your house this fall and check this out. iRobot, the same folks that brought you the Roomba robot vacuum have perfected the robotic gutter cleaner. This little beast can clean up to 30 feet of gutter in about 5 minutes and can swipe past about 200 linear feet on a single charge. Using a handy remote control, you can drive this leaf hungry menace much further along your house than ever before. Get the job done faster, and more importantly… safely. The Looj works by using a unique combination of onboard tools, like the high velocity 4 stage auger which breaks apart gutter clogs and then tosses them out of your gutters, and the new scraper and sweeper system that brushes out the remaining debris.Waterproof and able to be cleaned with a simple spray of your garden hose, you have directional control of both the Looj and the auger, and this models new lower profile allows you to clean more gutter types than ever before. How much have you been paying to have someone come clean out your gutters? or worse yet, have you been up on that ladder yourself? At 299 bucks the Looj 330 may be just what you need. Check out iRobot.com for ordering information. |
