Cybertecture Mirror: Not a magic mirror, but the next best thing!

Posted: 13 Oct 2010 04:36 PM PDT

I have seen many Magic Mirrors on Coolest Gadgets here before. This Cybertecture Mirror is the only one that isn’t a concept.

This Cybertecture Mirror, designed by James Law, has a translucent overlaid interface and measures 800 x 500 x 50 mm. It has fog resistant glass, IP41 waterproofing, WiFi, as well as some stereo speakers with 10 Watts of power output.

There seems to be some proprietary operating system functioning here, and allows the user to store all their data on the cloud, and access messages, weather, calendar, as well as other apps. The video after the jump even shows the Cybertecture Mirror used in conjunction with a scale.

You might also note that the user has a remote control for this mirror, but that could easily be controlled by a smartphone. In fact, it really ought to be. The last thing we need is another remote control, really.

I suppose that this really is the future, isn’t it? We get up, we go to the mirror, we check our messages and other things, and hop in the shower and think about what we just saw. Then, once we get out of the shower and get dressed, we can go online and get some work done.

The Cybertecture Mirror just launched in Hong Kong for a price of $7,773, and the company expects to sell two million years in the first three years. That’s quite a business goal.

Canon Cross Media Station can charge cameras and download photos

Posted: 13 Oct 2010 04:11 PM PDT

What you are seeing here is Canon’s Cross Media Station. It is technology that is probably years before public release, but it does some pretty amazing things.

To start, it is a wireless charger for a camera. I have seen wireless charging stations like the Powermat and Wildcharger before, and this thing has an indicator to show when your Canon camera has the correct amount of juice.

Another feature is its ability to sort out pictures on an HDTV. You can see in the video after the jump a spokesperson placing a camera on the station itself, and getting a patchwork quilt of pictures.

I can only assume that this feature can be used for fast-loading digital image files to a computer as well. After all, the video shows certain pictures being sent to certain friends.

You will note how the spokesperson in the video has a remote control, which I can only assume is a standard feature for this Cross Media Station. I can understand this, as the unit is connected to a television via HDMI. However, if this were connected to a PC, couldn’t we use the mouse in lieu of a remote control?

As I mentioned before, this device is a prototype, but I can imagine this device taking the place of most darkrooms. Do darkrooms even exist anymore?

The Hydrodome BOB provides some great underwater amusement

Posted: 13 Oct 2010 03:47 PM PDT

I always like reporting on mini submarines, and I’m not certain whether the Hydrodome BOB (Breathing Observation Bubble) falls under that category.

I believe my source calls the Hydrodome BOB an “aquatic scooter”. You will note how the people in the photo can ride around on the ocean floor with an underwater bike contraption.

You will note how the user has a bubble helmet for 180-degrees of clear viewing in any direction. Oxygen is pumped into it from the big silver tank on the front.

Believe it or not, it only takes 20 minutes to learn how to ride this thing. You don’t even have to know how to swim to try it either.

I’m not certain what it is with these mini submarines always sporting a shade of yellow like the Scubster and the two-million dollar yellow submarine. It most be some sort of law for any submarines under a certain size to be painted a shade of this color, while giant nuclear submarines have to be painted gray. I wonder if the Beatles had anything to do with this color-coding.

I’m not certain where this underwater amusement can be found, but my Source states it costs about $25 per hour, which includes an introductory class.

Lego Play and Build Nintendo Wii Remote

Posted: 13 Oct 2010 03:34 PM PDT

It’s rare that real life toys and virtual games can really come together in a way that’s complimentary to both items.  Thankfully, Lego is willing to mesh their plastic bricks with anything that holds still long enough.  Apparently the Wiimote wasn’t fast enough to escape being Lego-ized.

These Wii remotes will do all of the things you’d expect out of a Lego Wiimote.  It’ll work with your Nintendo Wii, plus it’ll allow for you to build on the remote to your heart’s content.  Of course I wouldn’t recommend going too Lego happy or you’ll suddenly find the remote extremely uncomfortable to grasp in your hand for long rounds of gaming.  You can pick up one of these for $39.99.  You will have to wait a little bit, these won’t actually be released until the 16th of this month.  To pre-order these you’ll just need to head over to Toys R Us.

Biometric Vehicle Starter

Posted: 13 Oct 2010 02:59 PM PDT

It used to be the only way to start up a car was with that shiny key, but now there are other options. The most common alternative is pushing a button.  Well if you’re not a fan of that route, now you can make sure you’re the only one that can start your car.  Instead of pushing buttons or turning a key, you just have to put your pointer finger right up to that tiny scanner.  If you’d like to allow a couple of other people to drive your car, you can have their fingerprints stored in the database.

Should you have a thief that’s watched too many spy movies and cuts off your finger in order to use it for the car, they’ll still be hosed.  After the fingerprint is confirmed it’ll then check for a pulse, blood pressure and body temperature, cut off fingers don’t have a pulse I’m afraid.  It even goes as far as to scan the capillary patterns underneath of the skin.  Despite that it checks several things, it won’t actually take long for all that information to be stored.  Being such an in depth gadget, this isn’t exactly a cheap item.  No, you’ll get stuck paying $699.95 for it at Sky Mall.

Dyson Groom Brush cleans up hair as you brush

Posted: 13 Oct 2010 02:27 PM PDT

I love my dog, but he sheds like crazy.  I finally have made him a dog that is mostly outside just because I really didn’t want the hair everywhere.  Despite owning a fancy pet hair model vacuum the hair was still around.  Well Dyson now has a vacuum that not only cleans up the hair on the floor, but also the hair that’s still lightly clinging to your dog.

This comes from the Japanese end of Dyson and will suck that hair right off of your dog.  It has a brush to get deep down in their fur coat.  If you already own a fancy Dyson pet themed vacuum you won’t need to pick up a brand new vacuum cleaner.  Instead you can pick up the attachment all by itself for $90.  Although it could be tricky since there’s no word on whether or not this is actually in the US or UK.

Is this the Coolest Swimming Pool Ever?

Posted: 13 Oct 2010 01:31 PM PDT

indoor pool
Over the years we’ve reported on some pretty cool swimming pool gadgets, from huge infinity pools to motorised bumper boats and many more. This next one is something special, it’s an outdoor terrace that converts into an indoor pool (yes you did read that correctly). Below is a photo before (in terrace mode) whilst above shows the terrace mid transformation.

Terrace Pool

To fully appreciate it you need to check out the following video:

The terrace system is called the MUTANDOR®

Extreme Exclusive B.V. is presenting the MUTANDOR®, a multifunctional terrace-to-building system. One system with more than ten functions. The MUTANDOR® is a complete terrace, from which walls (housefronts) will rise, a complete roof appears and a part sinks down, so that a swimming pool becomes available. This advanced system can be used as a terrace, as windscreens, party-hall, podium, pool cover, pool with movable pool floor etc. For almost all these options you can choose for the combination "open air", or "partly in-house" (is partly covered) or "full in-house" (is closed roof).

The Pools and housings are all custom made by EEx (Extreme Exclusive), there’s no mention of pricing but if you need to ask you likely can’t afford it.
